Salvation Arnie Revealed!

For those of us either living under a rock or on the wrong side of the pond, the much talked about digital cameo from Arnie himself has hit the net!!
Love or hate the idea, it's happened and is in the movie. So for anyone who is as impatient as me and can't wait to see what it looks like:

I think it looks ok and is obviously recognisable as the younger original Terminator Arnie.

Here's a TV Spot showing the clip these screen shots were taken from:

I must be living under a rock, was this in the movie? :(
TheJester - 6/5/2009, 7:54 AM
lol Yep! Haven't seen the movie yet as it's only just been released here in the UK
BCat - 6/5/2009, 7:59 AM
I wasn't interested in seeing the movie and I wasn't sure they were going to do this..

I wonder how much money he got.....
TheJester - 6/5/2009, 8:02 AM
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I was wondering how it looked. Actually looks pretty damn sweet. My bro told me about said it looked retarded, but honestly I thought it looks awesome.
Stumblin - 6/5/2009, 8:06 AM
@TheJester - No idea, more than I earn in a year though I'd imagine lol

@ Stumblin - Yeah, to me the stills don't do it any justice as it looks better in the trailer
BCat - 6/5/2009, 8:46 AM
Very cool!!!

'I'll be back'
Photobucket Heh heh.
LEEE777 - 6/5/2009, 9:01 AM
in the movie it looks even better than those pics - very cool moment.
Keven - 6/5/2009, 9:07 AM
Damn I really need to see this movie.
ironknight27 - 6/5/2009, 9:10 AM
I think they should have used this more in the advertising. The actor who played the body of Arnie Is even more massive now !!! jezzz.

It might have brought in more money, but at the same time with the limited air time some might have seen it as a crappy way to bring more peps into the theater.

Anyway...it showed the birth of the T-800's. I finaly saw on a toy commercial that they consider Marcus a T-700.

Makes sense.
The original T1 movie had Kyle Reece talking about the T600's with rubber skin, then go on to talk about the T-800 with living flesh.
vonstallin - 6/5/2009, 9:11 AM
LEE - another great pic lmao!!!
BCat - 6/5/2009, 9:12 AM
THe movie was great! I really like that they did this. It looked cool.
cable82 - 6/5/2009, 9:13 AM
(I'm wrong....T700 was something else..Marcus is just that)

Here is the body double for Arnie...
Roland Kickinger.

Arnie should use him and contiue on all his old movies, lol.

Minus the skin....

vonstallin - 6/5/2009, 9:28 AM
yep, the movie was awesome, i enjoyed it. it had a lot of kick ass action scenes. and bringing arnie this way was pretty bad ass
droopy1317 - 6/5/2009, 9:31 AM
he's only in it for like 5 minutes...well i mean the actual terminator is there for awhile, but the Arnie skin doesn't last. I thought it was pretty good though, and the theater erupted when the T-800 came out.
Crazyhorrormovienerd - 6/5/2009, 9:37 AM
IT WENT SO QUICK, I WANTED TO SEE MORE BUT I GUESS THE LONGER YOU STARE AT CGI YOU BECOME KNITPICKY LOOKING FOR ALL THE FLAWS
GUNSMITH - 6/5/2009, 9:57 AM
I thought it looked great and was believable. I bet he didnt recieve anything for it. Harrison Ford once said he recieved no money for recreations of his image as Solo because his likeness as Solo was licensed.
JonSolo - 6/5/2009, 10:00 AM
Two things bother me about Terminator.

1 - The T-800 was built to infiltrate the human resistance and blend in. Why the hell did they make it a 6ft bulk of muscle?! Great way to blend in to a group of humans who must be suffering the effects of food rationing, sleep deprevation and an unused gym membership!

2 - If the human race finds unlocking the secrets of time travel easier than blowing up a few robots, we're in trouble!
Howlett04 - 6/5/2009, 10:02 AM
I think some of this arnie footage came from a tv spot in between terminator I and II. The pan up his body when he steps out.
Betty - 6/5/2009, 10:05 AM
nice pic leee777 arnie smokin a stick of dynamite lol
cbsmitty2 - 6/5/2009, 10:12 AM
it was a cool scene but i felt they should have simply teased the t-800 in skynet's main central hub...then we would have seen "online" blinking..then the eye turns red...cue t5...lol...but it was a cool nostalgic moment!!!..i hope the next movie improves cuz this wasn't the great film i desired
Anil Rickly - 6/5/2009, 10:36 AM
Personally i thought the face looked animated..which it was..and it looked it. Crap
Rorschach01 - 6/5/2009, 10:39 AM
I agree with Keven. Looks a lot better and when it happened I was like OMG!!! Are you Serious?? AWESOME!!!! But yeah other than that it wasn't the perfect summer movie it was completely predictable and slow at times and I was hoping they were going to go into the time traveling but alas a let down... The Arnie part was the shocker to me.
InstigatorGIRL - 6/5/2009, 10:44 AM
i cannot believe there people on this site who have not seen this yet.
grif - 6/5/2009, 10:48 AM
The face wasnt too bad, but it was the eyes that really made it look cheap. I realize how difficult it must have been to render it properly and make it look real, but alas, nice try guys, better look next time
Rorschach01 - 6/5/2009, 11:08 AM
One thing in Terminator Salvation I couldn't figure out was which version of the "Arnold" Terminator we saw. My guess was that it's the one that said it killed John in T3, which probably doesn't happen now in the timeline since Marcus did what he did.. What do you guys think?

Slayer420 - 6/5/2009, 11:20 AM
The footage came from unused footage from T1.
MetalHead - 6/5/2009, 11:21 AM
Slayer,
No, it was the same model as in T1. T-800 means the endoskeleton and Model 101 means that it has the living tissue over the endoskeleton. The one in T3 (or Terminator: Worst Movie Ever, as I like to call it) was a T-850.
MetalHead - 6/5/2009, 11:23 AM
That's what i love about you @ MetalHead @ When it comes to TERMINATOR dude your the master! ; )

cbsmitty2 @ yeah lmao!

BCAT @ ; ) ... Nice Article man!!!

Hopefully ARNIE will have a role in the next PRED movie!
LEEE777 - 6/5/2009, 11:42 AM
Wow, that looks much better than the Rock looked in the Mummy Returns, which is what I was expecting when I heard Arnie was in this.
thwhtGuardian - 6/5/2009, 11:52 AM
very CG but that´s ok. I am sorry guys i am just kind of sad for the bad , very bad news i just posted..;-[
SirJediFrank - 6/5/2009, 11:58 AM
LEEE,
That's because I AM a T-800, can't you tell by looking at my pic? Since I'm not a model 101, though, I have no living tissue so it's hard for me to go out in public without scaring little kids or causing a ruckus. I am condemned to living a life alone. My lifestyle is very much like Mel Gibson's character in "The Man Without A Face."

(Actually, I believe my pic is a T-600 but I can't be sure. Hard to tell in the tiny pic and the full-sized image is still pretty small.)
MetalHead - 6/5/2009, 12:07 PM
@ LEEE777 - Thanks mate, appreciate it ;o)

@ MetalHead - finally someone has clear up the confusion I had over Arnie being reffered to as a T-800 but he refers to himself as a T-101 - Thank you mate. What was you reffering to when you said unused T1 footage?
BCat - 6/5/2009, 12:30 PM
MetalHead - Can you not zoom in and scan the serial number? If you are the man (machine) when it comes to these movies, can you answer my questions raised in my post above?
Howlett04 - 6/5/2009, 12:31 PM
Yes I'm glad to finally have proof he's in it!
Superman4 - 6/5/2009, 1:00 PM
BCat,
I read somewhere that the CGI was generated from unused footage from T1. That was how they were able to make it resemble Arnold from 1984.

Howlett,
1) The T-800 was only Skynet's most recent infiltration unit as of 2029. The T-600 was easily detected because it had rubber skin. They were also taller. The T-800 was one of the models to follow the T-600. With every new model, the infiltration units get better. Marcus's model was ONLY an infiltration unit. The T-800s are built for infiltration AND combat. The reason they are so big is because their chasis are so tough. The T-1000 was the prototype model which was about to be produced (in the timeline that existed as of T2) when the Resistance defeated Skynet. I'd have to imagine that once Skynet began mass-producing T-1000s that the Resistance's chances at victory would significantly decrease.

2) I don't really understand your question. If you can re-word it I'll gladly respond.
MetalHead - 6/5/2009, 1:08 PM
Side note: that was easily one of the best and coolest scenes in the entire Terminator series. John Connor, face-to-face with the same model machine who tried to kill his mother, who successfully killed his father (sorry about the spoiler there but if you haven't seen T1 by now, 25 years after its release, then it's your loss) and who protected him as a child. Awesome. It was set up very well, too. I've seen the movie 4 times now. The last time I recorded the scene with my digital camera. (Don't worry, I'm not selling it!)
MetalHead - 6/5/2009, 1:13 PM
@ MetalHead - Thanks very much mate. I can't wait to see this film!! You're right, a classic face off! Can't wait to see Connors face when he first see's it!!!
BCat - 6/5/2009, 1:18 PM
Oh man, it's cool. I knew there would be a CGI'ed Arnold cameo before seeing the movie. I just knew he was gonna be behind that door the first time I saw it (just a hunch-- I didn't know when specifically he'd pop up) and it was awesome. I'm a diehard fan and have been for almost 25 years (right after the first one came out-- I was too young to see it at the theaters but I saw it on VHS not long after) and I can honestly say that I was pleased with the scene and how they decided to incorporate Arnold's cameo. I'd be willing to bet that they'll do another Arnold CGI-scene in the next one where John reprograms one and sends it back to 1996 (T2).
MetalHead - 6/5/2009, 1:25 PM
; )
LEEE777 - 6/5/2009, 1:40 PM
MetalHead - You are indeed "the man"! Don't worry, they weren't entirely serious questions but well done on the 1st!
Howlett04 - 6/5/2009, 1:44 PM
I uploaded the scene where John faces the T-800 with the CGI'ed Arnold onto my computer. I could post it here. I'm afraid of legal issues, though. Anyone know any specifics as to what would happen if I were to post it?
MetalHead - 6/5/2009, 1:54 PM
@ Keven:

You're right. It looked a lot better on the screen. I'm usually very over critical when it come to CGI, but when I saw him in that movie, I was impressed.
BmanHall - 6/5/2009, 1:59 PM
Metalhead, i agree it was a cool scene but dont you think it could have been much better? Like you said hes coming face to face with this machine that shaped so much of his past..bale barely registers recognition! Arnie bursts out of the door, one quick flash of a wide eyed Connor then its on to the tossing around. McG should have wrung a hell of a lot more tension from that scene as well as many others imo
Rorschach01 - 6/5/2009, 2:05 PM
Ah, Rorschach, how many times must we ask ourselves "dont you think it could have been much better?" these days? Yes, you're correct, I'm sure it could have been. Hell, if it were up to me we would've seen 100 of him in the assembly lines and the final battle would have been way longer. But I won't even get into ALL of the things in this movie-- or in life-- that could have been much better. It was what it was and I enjoyed it. It could have been better, but when I watch the movie, I am not bothered by anything. It might not be the greatest movie of all time, but it was enjoyable to watch and sometimes that's enough. And only being satisfied is MUCH better than being disappointed.

I appreciated the scene and was glad that we at least got that. And Arnold was pretty adamant (he was an adamant Arnold!) that he didn't want his likeness to be major and used to be the hook that got people to the theater. He stressed that he wanted it to be a very minor cameo so I'm glad that we at least got that.
MetalHead - 6/5/2009, 2:24 PM
At least Arnie's CGI looks hella lot better than The Rock's in Mummy 2
Dragodon - 6/5/2009, 2:34 PM
I did enjoy the scene, and the movie overall but i was a tad disappointed. Check out my review..tis in the review section funnily enough!
Rorschach01 - 6/5/2009, 2:53 PM
LOL I had this picture 2 weeks before the movie was released. I didn't want to post it because it was too big of a spoiler IMO.
Macksimus - 6/5/2009, 2:58 PM
@ MetalHead - It sounds to me like we're the same sort of age and appreciate the same sort of things ;o) As I sit typing this T1 has just started! Over here in the UK they're showing all the movies to promote the release of Salvation - Obviously I'm gonna watch it!! Thanks for your info again mate!

@ Dragodon - LOL that CGI Rock was pretty damn bad!!

@ Rorschach - I thought that was a well written review mate and I agree about the rating of the movie ;o)
BCat - 6/5/2009, 3:03 PM
Rorschach,
Don't know if you read my review or not (it was quite lengthy) but I basically made some points in McG's defense in that a lot of this movie wasn't his vision because he wasn't involved from the start. And a lot of the things that people may complain about are really not completely McG's fault because he had to hack the movie to pieces, re-shoot a ton and still have it all released within about a year (Bale joined in late '07) on the original release date. There are over 40 minutes of deleted scenes.

And TRUST ME, we are ALL lucky that he did what he did. I read the original script and it was HORRIBLE! And not JUST the ending, either. You should see how stupid the plot was. Its original big twist was that we were to find out that Skynet wiped out the humans because they planned to save the human race by replace them all with hybrid human-machines since Skynet knew that eventually we would be extinct. SOOOO lame. So when judging the movie, try to cut them a little slack considering all the F-ups they had to work around between the disaster that was T3 and the disaster that had already started filming prior to him coming on board.

Macksimus,
Funny seeing you HERE!
MetalHead - 6/5/2009, 3:08 PM
Rorschach,
Just read your review. It's basically fair and it does seem like the majority of your issues are directly related to the fact that they had to chop it to pieces. Here are a few changes that you may not know about:

-Originally, John (prior to Bale joining the cast) was only in the film for about 3 minutes at the end of the movie in the sub. He dies at the end in this version and there were two endings-- both of which involved Marcus replacing John-- one being a dark ending and one being an ending where Marcus becomes the new leader as John.

-Many of Bale's scenes were shot quickly without a script.

-There originally were WAY more scenes with Marcus and Kyle. We were supposed to learn that many of Kyle's survival skills came from his time with Marcus (like the scene where Marcus shows him to use a strap on the shotgun).

-The whole entire ending was changed. The Skynet City was different. It was originally intended to show the human-machine hybrids living in peace and working on starting a new society, although I don't think any of this was filmed.

-Dr. Serena Kogan had a much more significant role and she actually became a hybrid as well.

I'm sure there's a ton more, and I really mean that-- a ton. There are just a few examples.
MetalHead - 6/5/2009, 3:24 PM
you can easily see thats not arnold's body, i dont know why they thought roland kickinger and arnold had similar physiques.
realblood33 - 6/5/2009, 3:31 PM
Hey Bcat, thanks man, and Terminator 1 is on here in Ireland in about an hour! Myself and a few mates are beering up for it, havnt watched it in years. I think its better than 2 actually.

Metalhead i guess i can sympathize to a certain extent, but what was released is what was released! I mean all movies go through hardships. If he wasnt happy with the finished product he should have recut and edited parts of it. Maybe he didnt have time coming up to the release date i guess, but still, i can only comment on the finished product regardless of any variables that may explain the sub par bits of the movie.
Rorschach01 - 6/5/2009, 3:40 PM
I think that the DVD release will be the answer to a lot of people's problems with the movie. First off, it will be unrated (or at least there will be an unrated edition). Second, McG has already confirmed that the deleted scenes will be on it-- all 40 minutes. So I think between those 2 factors we may get to see a director's cut which will not have time constrictions, will not have rating restrictions, will flow much better (the Blair scene where you don't know that she was just topless, which is why the guys want to rape her), etc. I do agree that what is released is what is released, I'm just saying that before people are quick to hang McG, keep in mind that he had to fix a disaster.
MetalHead - 6/5/2009, 3:46 PM
Ror--I agree with you, Connor should have had a more complex reaction to seeing Arnie. To Connor, the t-800 was his friend and father figure. He should have been almost happy and then confused, instead of bug-eyed.
Betty - 6/5/2009, 3:50 PM
dude the CGI Arnold looks like crap. it's just like the crapy CGI Rock form Mummy II.
but you would think of the history of JC and the T800 they would want to hug or something, lol

shadowboxer - 6/5/2009, 3:56 PM
Betty,
Keep in mind that they didn't originally know that they would be able to use Arnold's likeness so there was a chance that he would have ended up seeing Roland Kickinger there instead.
MetalHead - 6/5/2009, 3:56 PM
Rorschach - Nice one fella - enjoy!!

MetalHead - You make a lot of sense mate, Someone I once knew used to say "You can't polish a turd!!"
BCat - 6/5/2009, 4:24 PM
That's funny cause I love that saying. Around here we also call things like this "putting lipstick on a pig."
MetalHead - 6/5/2009, 4:32 PM
LOL!! Love it!!
BCat - 6/5/2009, 4:52 PM
I guess the reason that this movie has "Salvation" in the title is that McG saved us from the original script.
MetalHead - 6/5/2009, 4:59 PM
Or that he managed to salvage a movie from it!
BCat - 6/5/2009, 5:01 PM
Yeah BCat, that's what I was going for, I messed it up. You got it.
MetalHead - 6/5/2009, 6:10 PM
It's not a tooma' ..........
Niem8211 - 6/5/2009, 6:46 PM
Great CGI ! Great Cameo ! Marvelous !!!!!!!!!
Gose - 6/5/2009, 7:15 PM
@ realblood33

i've read many places about kickinger playing in T4 but that figure looks nothing like kickinger to me.

i think that cgi Arnold is pretty accurate from the pecs up. the only thing i see wrong is that they could have made him bigger, espically his triceps. in his prime he was considered huge by todays ifbb pro standards.

i really don't think that is kickinger body. would say it IS arnold's pecs, shoulders and traps.
kickinger's pecs are a little more saggy than AS. all they need is one of the thousands of bodybuilding pics arnold has to use as a refernce to make a cgi arnold.

but if they did use someone elses body they should have used Gunter Schlierkcamp's physique, he is a closer match to the Oak than any other i've seen.

@ InstigatorGIRL

i heard that the time travel will start in the next one.
shadowboxer - 6/5/2009, 8:50 PM
shadowboxer,
Sorry, but you are incorrect. It is Roland Kickinger's body. imdb.com even lists him as a T-800.
MetalHead - 6/5/2009, 10:01 PM
OK, HOW DO THEY PUT THE FLESH ON THE ROBOTS???IS IT LIKE THOSE CLAY MOLD DEALS , OR DO THEY PUT THEM IN A TUB, OR IS IT LIKE A FOAM OR GEL THAT HARDENS INTO FLESH LIKE JELLO.
GUNSMITH - 6/5/2009, 10:19 PM
Gunsmith,
Here is the answer to your question (this is also what had JUST happened to the T-800 with Arnold's face CGI'ed on it in "Terminator: Salvation" as that specific model had literally JUST come off the assembly line):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlLCqVKwWJk
MetalHead - 6/5/2009, 10:24 PM
Metalhead I totally understand your sympathy for McG or Hamburgler or whatever they call him? LOL
In my line of work as a Live Concert Production Tec and no I am not a damn stagehand. There is a saying that is applied to all technicians in all forms of production.

Your only as good as your last show....

Maybe I am wrong about the field of film making but in my opinion if you are a director and you have a certain vision of how things should be done then you should make no compromise and you should take the risk and make the movie that you want to see and not the movie that the studio wants. And if he was walking into something that was kinda screwed up or falling apart then he should have been smart and allowed it to shatter itself then to try and save it because at the end of the day sadly T4 will just be another Terminator movie that could have been epic but will continue to live in the shadow of T1 and T2.
Hellmont - 6/6/2009, 6:50 AM
0:27 looks REALLY fake the rest is great.
I - 6/6/2009, 11:23 AM
@ MetalHead

you're right imbd is correct but i have a hard time seeing someone else playing arnold as t800.
you hear "terminator" you think arnold not kickinger.
i guess i just have to come to terms with it all.
thanks for setting me straight;-)
shadowboxer - 6/6/2009, 2:05 PM
I'M BEGINNING TO BELIEVE MOVIE FANS ARE BECOMING OVERWHELMINGLY SPOILED. I'VE SAT BACK AND WATCHED SOME VISUALLY AND LITERALLY FANTASTIC MOVIES GET PANNED BY SUPPOSED FANS FOR PETTY TECHNICALITIES AND SMALL NUANCES, MOST OF WHICH WERE IMPOSSIBLE TO EVEN MAKES AS A FLAW 10-15 YEARS AGO. I READ SOME OF THE UP AND DOWN REVIEWS BEFORE WATCHING THIS MOVIE, AND AFTER WATCHING THE MOVIE I WAS LEFT FEELING THAT THE MOVIE WAS GREAT. HAD IT BEEN MADE 10 YEARS AGO PEOPLE WOULD'VE RAVED BUT WHY IS IT SO DIFFERENT NOW. IT'S ALMOST LIKE PEOPLE GO INTO THE MOVIES LOOKING FOR SOMETHING BAD TO SAY. LIKE A SUPERVISOR THAT CAN'T ACCEPT THE FACT THE EMPLOYEES ARE DOING A GOOD JOB. I FELT LIKE THAT AFTER THE FIRST HULK CAME OUT, AT THE END OF THE DAY THAT WAS A [frick]ING GOOD MOVIE, AND SPIDER-MAN 3, VENOM COULD'VE BEEN A LIL NASTIER BUT TOPHER WAS GREAT AS BROCK. I THINK IT'S TIME WE START APPRECIATING SOME OF THESE MOVIES...IT MAKES NO SENSE TO KEEP A DIAMOND BURIED IN COAL
j2cool2 - 6/6/2009, 3:58 PM
Typing it in all caps doesn't make it true

If they want to use CGI then they should use if correctly, you hardly expect a film with animatronics puppets to not try their darnedest to make it as believable as possible.
SoulAllFlush - 6/7/2009, 5:36 AM
(12COOL2) it's not even worth it I been fighting with these people for like ever. There more fans of movies than they are of terminater. They look at acting story plot directing and they look for the stupidest little things, or it's not like a book, comic book or tv show those r my favorites, they say the movie sucks. And im surprised they liked the incredable HULK cuse he still looked cgi and looked no differaunt from HULK. And u peole that say cgi sucks then watch JP3 and watch the scean with alan grant in the tree with rapters under him u people caint even tell with r cgi and wich r puppets.

The movie was great it looked good and the cgi was deadon. So look out u people The trans formers r CGI so i gusse your all ganna hate that.
Logan-X - 6/7/2009, 11:31 AM
Your a strange dude Loganx.

j2cool2 i actually agree with you to a certain extent, people can be far too critical sometimes. But at the same time, movies have to be held to a standard. I dont need every little thing to be perfect to enjoy a movie but sometimes its just disappointing if they are not as good as you expect them to be. I really enjoyed Terminator but because im such a fan of the other movies i was expecting a bit more from it.
Rorschach01 - 6/7/2009, 1:01 PM
And on a side note that did not fall far from the tree, rumor has it that Ror-01 still likes and hopes that the wolverine-rankorigins series delves further into itself in order to ensure his ability to never have to recant his reasons if for no other reason than not to have to..... a movie that is at least as good and definitely no better than the FIRST!!! That being said well all i gotta say is ;)
shibazz - 6/9/2009, 12:11 AM
Arnold Rocked my sockssssssss!!!! love to see his dumb/smart Repuke-lican ass anyhoo!
shibazz - 6/9/2009, 12:17 AM
Wolverine was the best comic book movie ever made!
Rorschach01 - 6/9/2009, 2:19 PM

"..bale barely registers recognition! Arnie bursts out of the door, one quick flash of a wide eyed Connor then its on to the tossing around. McG should have wrung a hell of a lot more tension from that scene as well as many others imo"

Exactly....I said that in my review...and that ticked me off. Almost as if BALE didnt know who Arnold was. Maybe they will get it right next time.
Aiiwolf - 6/9/2009, 2:20 PM
I went to see this film today (i thought it was pretty awesome!) but i was also kinda disappointed that there wasnt even a comment made by connor when he saw the arnie terminator..!
