J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness is now the fourth 2013 film to cross the $200M+ mark at the domestic box office, and the sequel is close to surpassing the worldwide gross of its predecessor. We also have updates on Iron Man 3 and After Earth.

The box office estimates for this weekend are in, and most significantly, Paramount's Star Trek Into Darkness has officially taken in $200M+ domestically. The J.J. Abrams-directed sequel is the fourth film released in 2013 to pass the impressive mark, and despite having a lower-than-expected opening last month, it's now on the verge of outgrossing its 2009 predecessor (which made nearly $258M domestically and $385.7M worldwide). Into Darkness is now at $376.5M globally, and should surpass the '09 Trek sometime this week. Meanwhile, M. Night Shyamalan's After Earth took a -59% drop in its second weekend, and is now at $92M worldwide. The critically panned sci-fi film, which stars Will and Jaden Smith, was produced on a $130M budget. Finally, we have an update on Marvel's Iron Man 3, which is about to gross a massive $1.2B globally. What did you see in theaters this weekend?

I'm really disappointed that this movie is going to be considered a flop by Paramount :/ a studio only gets half a movies box office haul and with a 190 mil budget and a gross of 376 mil after a month in cinemas they'll be lucky if they even break even on it.

I love IM3. Revisited several times. Too bad it won't pass HP, oh well, still a huge success

I also liked STID. Was it what I expected out of a ST film? no but still very enjoyable.
Not so sure they'll automatically give the green light for a sequel unless they cut the budget way down.
I think the studio will sit and think hard about this. This sequel was supposed to blow the first one's numbers away and it's barely matching them even though it had the advantadge of 3D and a 2 week run on practically all I-Max screens in North America

Im not sure if its going to cross the century mark then with markets like that and even with MoS coming out in those places a week later that week its going to knock it off the top spot. Thats how block busters work, one comes out stays there for a while then gets knocked off when the next block buster arrives and so the cycle continues.

While I have not watched the movie itself so I cant comment on its quality, I do agree with you that Lindelof is the worst screen writer since Akiva Goldsman (he wrote Batman Forever and Batman & Robin). His Cowboys & Aliens script was awful, Prometheus had hundreds of plot holes and unanswered questions along with some truly stupid character moments.

So yeah I agree with you that this hack needs to get the [frick] out of the business.

Thats the problem though, it needs to make at least 500 million to be profitable, if it makes 400 million Paramount would only make 20 million from the movie.
