THE BLACK CAT Confirmed For THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Video Game

Beenox studio head Dee Brown talks about working closely with The Amazing Spider-Man filmmakers so does that mean Black Cat.....probably not, at least not in the first film.

Beeox studio chief Dee Brown shares some interesting info about working on The Amazing Spider-Man video game, primarily his statements about working closely with Marvel and Sony and the inclusion of the Black Cat leads me to believe that before the Spider-Man reboot is rebooted, we may see the Black Cat on the big screen. Said Brown---

"The fact that our game is based on the movie, and the movie is re-approaching the universe in a completely different way — a more grounded, more realistic approach — gives us an incredible setting to play with.....Because we've based our story AFTER the movie, it's allowed us a world of opportunity from a creative standpoint."

Brown said that he met with execs from Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios at the early development stage to present and exchange ideas.

"They really liked our story, and how we're approaching Gwen and Connors and the relationship between all those characters based on what they're doing in the movie. They've been really supportive of what we've been doing with things like adding additional Marvel characters like Rhino," said Brown.

Brown also touched on the obvious comparison gamers will make to Rocksteady's Batman video game series, with similarities like updating battle damage to Spider's costume, a fighting system that has been described as nearly identical and a Spidey Cave (Peter Parker will be renting an apartment in Manhattan) it's not hard to imagine why.

"I played both Batman games and liked them," said Brown. "For me, the Spider-Man character is very different than Batman. You have to approach both in a different way. I think the Rocksteady guys did a good
job at providing what was required to make a great Batman game, and we're doing everything we need to this time to make a great Spider-Man game."

But back to the news that the game will feature The Black Cat. With Sony repeatedly beating it over our heads that this is 'The Untold Story' it's definitely plausible that future installments of Marc Webb's Spider-Man series could feature Felicia Hardy aka The Black Cat. A big part of Peter Parker and Spider-Man's life is his relationship with Felicia and that was something completely left out of Sam Raimi's trilogy. It could be a neat, surprising twist if instead of giving audiences the assumed Gwen Stacy/Mary Jane Watson love triangle we get a Gwen Stacy/Felicia Hardy love interest conflict. Hardy would bring a new dynamic to Parker's love life from what we've previously seen in Spider-Man films as she's more apt to rescue Spidey than the other way around. The key thing to remember is that the game is set AFTER the movie so it's possible that this is a direction Sony and Webb could be looking to go.

The Amazing Spider-Man is an upcoming American superhero film directed by Marc Webb, based on the comic book of the same name and starring Andrew Garfield as the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. It is the fourth Columbia Pictures film that portrays Spider-Man in film and is a reboot of the film series that stars the superhero. The cast includes Garfield as Peter Parker and his alter ego, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors. The film will portray Parker as his super powers are evolving in high school.

The film's development began simultaneously with Sony announcing the cancellation of Spider-Man 4. Opting for a reboot with the same production team rather than another sequel, the studio announced a July 2012 release date for what was now titled The Amazing Spider-Man. James Vanderbilt was hired to write the script while Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves helped fine-tune the script. Filming started in December 2010 in Los Angeles before moving to New York City with the help of RED Epic camera. The film entered post-production in April 2011.

Sony Entertainment has focused its marketing campaign with a promotional website with released images, 2 theatrical trailers, a prologue screening in certain cities and a video game tie-in being developed by Beenox among other products. The Amazing Spider-Man is scheduled to be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on July 3, 2012. A sequel of the film is being planned for release in 2014 with James Vanderbilt hired to again write the screenplay.

Cool, I always liked BC, but I hope they wont make her like Felicia in DS as you mentioned above. The funny thing is that both share the same name :)

JDuke, I agree with you. She has been in cartoons and video games but never in a live action movie. We need that!

@fcucsu, the movie is realistic. Because genetics is a very real thing you know. Read a book. That goes for Peter and Lizard. Oh, and spider-silk is stronger than steel. Just multiply it's size by 1,000 and voila, you have super-strong webs. Oh, and half of Harvey Dent was lit on fire and he's strolling on those charred feet and is taking guidance from the guy that just screwed him and his girlfriend. Yep, that's the very definition of realistic.

It sounds like they are working really hard on this game.

We could have another Spider-Man 2 movie video game on our hands. :)

The 'Spidey Cave' sounds interesting too.

@JillValenfield I really liked how the character was adapted in the 90's SM:TAS. I'm sure we will see Black Cat on the big screen someday. :)

@VenomSpawn Nice find! I'm pretty sure that is Silver Sable though.

@OdinsBeard

Damn right, comic book fans seem to be blind to the fact that Black Cat is too similar to Catwoman, there are tons more Spider-Man villains that are way better for future movies. NO Black Cat because the general public will just call her a Catwoman rip-off, particularly so soon after the Dark Knight Rises

Honestly, after Kirsten "vampire teeth" Dunst screwed up Mary Jane, I'd prefer anyone but her to be in a love triangle with Peter and Gwen. Bring on Felicia
