BOX OFFICE: FANTASTIC FOUR Continues To Bomb In Yet Another Humiliating Weekend

As Fantastic Four enters its third weekend, the reboot continues to be utterly humiliated thanks to its dismal performance at both the domestic and international box office. It's not Fox's only flop this weekend though, as Hitman: Agent 47 also crashed and burned...

Fantastic Four is the gift which keeps on giving for fans of trainwrecks, as the reboot had a horrendous third weekend at the North American box office. Losing nearly 1500 theaters, the movie grossed a paltry $3.6 million, making no real impact on the Top 10 (where Straight Outta Compton continues to dominate). It now has a total of $49 million, meaning that after 17 days of release, it still hasn't made as much as both Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer did on their respective opening weekends in 2005 and 2007 which is embarrassing.

It's not faring much better overseas either as it grossed just $16 million this weekend, for a total of $60 million. It's hard to imagine Fox going anywhere near this franchise again after this performance, even with a new director! Regardless, Fantastic Four isn't Fox's only flop this weekend. Hitman: Agent 47 earned a paltry $8.2 million during its debut weekend...what did you guys decide to check out this weekend? As always, be sure to let us know in the usual place!

From having a great year in 2014 Fox sure has a horrible year in 2015

It's a bomb sure, but their other movies make a huge amount of money so it's not going to harm the studio too much.
They expected to not make much money back (perhaps not this little...) but still, something tells me they'll soldier on with the franchise

Hmmm, quite a pickle. If they are going to hold onto the licence then my advice would be wait a few years then have another go. This time no origin story, we can see flashbacks briefly into how they got their powers, but have them older, wiser and a little more seasoned - so we can see them show off their abilities they've had years to hone.

Personally, I would ask Universal what they are doing with Namor. Start a joint production where Namor starts out as the Antagonist but ends more anti-hero so Universal can have a solo franchise. Have Sue and Reed struggling with having a high profile, public relationship. So the Four face Namor and internal differences on how to tackle their first major threat.

Meanwhile the subplot can be the rise of Doom, and how he is the one secretly pulling the strings to break the team apart, and at the same time destroy Namor.

Lots more could chuck in but that's how I would roughly do it

@CherryBomb

The only thing that'll save Fantastic Four is casting a bunch of hot dudes and ladies at this point.

Somebody needs to take the words "dismal," "embarrassing," and "paltry" away from Josh Wilding. He seems to lean on them in all of his box office articles.

I recall some users on this site saying this movie would be the best comic book movie of 2015 & Ant-Man would be the worse & Marvel's first flop.

Where are they now?

@Emblemmaniac Agree, Fox has had a rough 2015 so far. But... they still have some good looking stuff coming out.

-The Martian
-New Maze Runner Movie
-The Revenat
-Peaunuts Movie
-Joy
-Victor Frankinstien

So out of that list they still have a nice list of films shapping up to be amazing. But in my opinion once again you are right because Fox's last year list of films were much better.

-X-Men; Days Of Future Past
-Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes
-Gone Girl
-Birdman
-Fault In Our Stars
-How To Train Your Dragon 2

But I think Fox will be fine. Their next year movie list seems to be going well. But yeah Fantatsic Four looks TERRIBLE for Fox and I'm sure somebody got fired for that bomb.

I still wish Marvel released Ant-Man on it's original date.

The flame wars up there would have been beautiful as Ant-Man would have gone up against Snoopy and Bond.

Marvel vs Fox vs Sony all on one day.
