Marcos Martin has done some incredible work on Amazing Spider-Man, so it should come as no great surprise that Marvel chose him to do the twelfth and final 50th anniversary variant for this Christmas' Amazing Spider-Man #700. While the events on the cover obviously aren't indicative of what happens within that mysterious issue, rumour has it that it will see Doctor Octopus get his ultimate revenge on Peter Parker before Superior Spider-Man launches in January with someone else behind the mask. Check out the cover below (we'll try to get a hi-res version up as soon as it becomes available) and sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.

I'm not gonna lie going to be sad to see this go after 700 issues.

Nice cover. Has it got any relevance to the actual storyline? Is that Green Goblin chasing Spidey?
0ptimusCrime - 11/10/2012, 9:46 AM
sad to see the amazing spider-man end, not really looking forward to [frick]ing miquel o'hara as Spider-man, hope the 12 ohara fans do like it.

JDUKE25 - 11/10/2012, 12:16 PM
This looks good. Puts me in the mood for Christmas and Spider-Man. I want a Spider-Man movie to have a snow setting at some point during the movie.
SuperSomething616 - 11/10/2012, 12:50 PM
Actually Marvel has never actually said it was someone else behind the mask!!! They simply put it that it wasn't Peter Parker...

And even if it wasn't Pete and someone else how long do you really think it'll be before Pete is Spider-man again...oh errr maybe till the amazing spider-man sequel comes out!!!

Why is everyone being such dumb asses!!!
TheFirstAvenger97 - 11/10/2012, 1:22 PM
Supersomething616 if it isn't Parker that means it's someone else.
KingLing - 11/10/2012, 1:25 PM
Spideguy94 has it right. They renumber stuff all the time and then put it back to normal when they get closer to a milestone. They did it with Ultimate Spiderman too. Nothing to worry about, no era is ending.
DioFoRio - 11/10/2012, 1:34 PM
Very Tim Sale. Looks awesome.
DioFoRio - 11/10/2012, 1:35 PM
It feels as if there is a narrator telling a Christmas story
DioFoRio - 11/10/2012, 1:38 PM
Daily Bugel is having some hard ass times renting out some grimey ass Diner for their Christmas party
Dunejedi - 11/10/2012, 1:59 PM
Yeah, where the hell has Tim Sale been?
Zounds - 11/10/2012, 2:11 PM
Great cover. Nice to see something seasonally thematic done in a light-hearted fashion.
SpideyQuad - 11/10/2012, 2:15 PM
Perhaps Pete's mind gets "blanked" by Otto or better yet the Jackle.
RSDhillon - 11/10/2012, 2:29 PM
@SpideyQuad Yeah, and then Otto tells him they're partners-in-crime!!

Sorry, been reading old Spidey comics...
AmazingFantasy - 11/10/2012, 3:08 PM
Pre-ordering this is Mint and Normal, then Superior 1 in Mint and Normal.
DioFoRio - 11/10/2012, 3:15 PM
@DuneJedi....seriously...he fell off the map. Probably doing Story Board work somewhere.
superotherside - 11/10/2012, 8:29 PM
Fantastic cover. Don't like how they want to kill Peter off though. Or replace him or what ever.

Just wait though it'll change back. Hopefully reverse OMD as well.
MediaMan - 11/11/2012, 5:20 PM
Love that cover. And I'm sure they'll pick up the original Spidey numbering at some future point. How can they pass up the chance to get to #1,000?

And the idea of a Spidey movie in the snow... love it.
