Leading Scientist Says "Human Cyborgs Will Be Among Us In 20 Years"

With the Surrogates dropping in on theaters this coming Friday night and the recent Terminator Salvation movie giving us a dose of cyborg human killing machines, I thought you would be interested on when this stuff will become reality.
Sounds like in 20 years we will all be in a different world. Scientist Ray Kurzweil claims that with the advancements in technology and our ever increasing knowledge of genes human's will be immortal:

"Kurzweil calls his theory the Law of Accelerating Returns. "I and many other scientists now believe that in around 20 years we will have the means to reprogram our bodies' stone-age software so we can halt, then reverse, aging," he said. "Then nanotechnology will let us live forever."

He continued: "Ultimately, nanobots will replace blood cells and do their work thousands of times more effectively. Within 25 years we will be able to do an Olympic sprint for 15 minutes without taking a breath, or go scuba-diving for four hours without oxygen. Heart-attack victims – who haven't taken advantage of widely available bionic hearts – will calmly drive to the doctors for a minor operation as their blood bots keep them alive."

"Nanotechnology will extend our mental capacities to such an extent we will be able to write books within minutes. If we want to go into virtual-reality mode, nanobots will shut down brain signals and take us wherever we want to go. Virtual sex will become commonplace. And in our daily lives, hologram like figures will pop in our brain to explain what is happening."

Kurzweil concluded: "So we can look forward to a world where humans become cyborgs, with artificial limbs and organs."

I know this isn't Comic Book news but the possibility of Cyborg's running amok on the streets is soon to be a reality, and that in it self is news worthy. Maybe the Terminator franchise can get some fresh new ideas now about the sequel to Terminator Salvation.

If your from the greater Portage/South Bend IN area check us out, Jman and Johnny Love, at the Portage 16 IMAX Theater on Friday night, September 25, as we review The Surrogates!

i wonder how many random phone calls Sky Net receives from dooms day theorists, passing off threats to destroy their facilities to stop the terminators from taking over the world

I could imagine their voice-mails.
Whispers68 - 9/23/2009, 8:40 AM
I like the idea of immortality but writing books in minutes? there's no art to that. but yeah i think the obvious out come is the nano bots gaining self awareness and taking over the planet. they'd better be insulated otherwise if theres nuclear war the emp will kill us all.
Boekelaar - 9/23/2009, 8:42 AM
Im still waiting for the flying cars lol, id give this 100 years before anything like this ever happens! Heh, i wonder if their employing at SKYNET??? : D
LEEE777 - 9/23/2009, 8:46 AM
virtual sex? who wants that bullshit. the real thing will always be the best.
superdog - 9/23/2009, 9:10 AM
Seriosuly, Leee. I think twenty years is a bit too soon. I understand that technology accelerates at an ever increasing rate, but cyborgs in twenty years? Just seems a little unreal. Bionic limbs and nanites to augment blood cells maybe, but replacing them all together?
Shadowelfz - 9/23/2009, 9:11 AM
living forever ,cool. we can keep the batman movies going forever and won't have to worry about replaceing actors.

RIP heath ledger
UltimateHobgoblin666 - 9/23/2009, 9:15 AM
You guys are going to LOVE this! There is also a company called Cyberdyne and they make exoskeletons, NOT endoskeletons (yet)!

http://dvice.com/archives/2009/04/cyberdyne-hal-e.php They also have a website, too. http://www.cyberdyne.jp/English/

Mileena16 - 9/23/2009, 10:07 AM
this sounds a little more like science fiction than science to me.
thwhtGuardian - 9/23/2009, 10:09 AM
I don't take much stock in guys that make perdictions like this. Twenty years ago I was fifteen. I use to love reading about scientist saying what the world would be like in twenty years.

The coast was suppose to be flooded because of global warming, robots where suppose walk among us, space tourism, ect ect ect.. Not even the internet is totally what they "perdicted". That was 1988. Go figure.
YogiDonnie - 9/23/2009, 10:10 AM
Where are the flying cars????

Oh and im not into that Cyborg sex either.....although i do know someone who is.....

:D

teabag - 9/23/2009, 12:06 PM
And if we have wireless chips in us what prevents that from being hacked or given a virus.
Rokrad - 9/23/2009, 12:31 PM
we will never be immortal
AvengingAngel1022 - 9/23/2009, 12:47 PM
I look forward to it. There is infinity to discover and if you arent excited about that then you should find out why. Perception is everything. If we are simply energy and we know it now then extended our lives to that degree isnt rediculous. It just means we get to go on living far longer than expected and become great beings. I see it as possible the next stage in evolution. It doesnt look the form evolution normally takes but it shouldnt look that way if we are going into something completely unseen by our civilization before.
theartofoneness - 9/23/2009, 1:16 PM
ok so if this all happens then what will there to live for? it just wouldnt work, the thing that makes us HUMANS unique is that we all are diffrent, if people start tunring us into robots we will have no meaning....
future0fcomixs - 9/23/2009, 1:50 PM
Yep, we're fracked. It's like that sealab ep where they were cyborgs and debated which side to fight on: "I mean c'mon! You'll have the strength of 10 GORILLAS!"
antz1104 - 9/23/2009, 1:51 PM
Teabag- You would be the second one shot out of that cannon, I think we all could agree supermike should go first.
ASSASSIN666 - 9/23/2009, 3:13 PM
Cyberdyne does not just make endo-skeletons, they make full on life like cyborgs.

http://gadgets.softpedia.com/news/Repliee-R-1-Robot-Looks-Like-a-Real-Girl-360-01.html

My question is, who the fucl would name their robotics company Cyberdyne?

TheTopherTap - 9/23/2009, 8:25 PM
superdog, if Bill Gates was in charge of the nanobots they'd be getting hacked and infected with viruses on an almost daily basis. IF they'd work they'd be turned against our own bodies and used to spy on us and even kill us.
necrosage2005 - 9/23/2009, 10:55 PM
no worries...we will destroy ourselves with war and pollution before robots even get a chance to move in on us.
but i say let robots drive our cars before they take over our bodies.
TurdFergunson - 9/24/2009, 9:11 AM
Words cannot describe how [frick]ed up this would be. If anyone thought humans were weak organisms now, let some crazy SciFi shit like this happen and see how utterly pathetic we become. My first thought when reading this was that a person could have their free will stolen from them at any time through technology like this. I already despise the US government and something like this would be the straw that broke the camels back.

I am by no means a religious person, I don't even believe in God, but I've read the Bible and this straight up sounds like some mark-of-the-beast shit.
