Zoe Saldana on Wonder Woman

Her views on women in Hollywood and Wonder Woman in particular.
Johnny Depp’s surprise appearance at at Comic-Con in San Diego this year wasn’t the only highlight of the conference. Latina’s July cover girl Zoe Saldana also stopped by with with Sigourney Weaver, Eliza Dushku, and Elizabeth Mitchell to talk about the role of female heroes in modern pop culture.

Saldana who recently stared alongside Chris Pine in Star Trek, and is starring as Neytiri in this years highly anticipated James Cameron film Avatar said it’s all about picking your battles. "Women in Hollywood are all united in finding better projects, in fighting for better interpretations and better roles," declared Saldana.

Saldana used Weaver as an example, saying Ellen Ripley was a role that could have been a man, but wasn’t. “Thank God for that,” she said. “We’ve come so far in the last 50 years. I mean, we have a black President, for God’s sake.”

Saldana also shared her opinion on another iconic female superhero: Wonder Woman, who has yet to be featured in a full length film. Industry insiders say that several attempts have been made to write a great Wonder Woman script, but people are scared of messing up the iconic character, originally played by Latina legend Linda Carter. Saldana's suggestion was that they turn the heroine into a "Matrix"-style kung fu chick, and that they find someone with a hot body for the title role! When asked about current "It" girl Megan Fox starring as Wonder Woman, Saldana seemed open to the prospect.

I for one hope to the comic Gods (Jack Kirby, Stan Lee) that this role does npt go to Megan Fox, and actress that has calle dWonder Woman a 'lame character' that she doesn't 'get' I would like soemone who can actually act.

"into a "Matrix"-style kung fu chick"??????

This chick is HIGH! She can't be serious! That remark tells me she has no understanding of the character.

"Matrix"-style kung fu chick, and that they find someone with a hot body for the title role!"

hmmmm... I dont think she gets it...

"Saldana seemed open to the prospect" of Megan Fox? uhhh... no.

Photobucket

Megan Fox for obvious reasons is not Wonder Woman.
1) She's not credible
2) she's too young looking
3) she doesnt "get her"
4) she is too short
5) I dont like her

Lee: Hot Damn thats a good pic of Depp & Strange!!
KeepItReal - 7/25/2009, 12:23 PM
6) ugly thumbs
7) a pompous ass
8) has a look of an air-head
9) is a proven better fit for roles of tramps and whores
10) I don't like her either!

My re-post:

"into a "Matrix"-style kung fu chick"??????

This chick is HIGH! She can't be serious! That remark tells me she has no understanding of the character.

Next!...

Phinehas - 7/25/2009, 12:31 PM
I agree with O'keefe as WW. Mitra's face is a little manly.
Tobuttica - 7/25/2009, 12:32 PM
phinehas: lmao.. well if you put it that way! LOL! Well said indeed! =) So on the same page of Wonder Woman!

I feel so good! I suggested Jody Lynn to Shaman (& on yahoo OMG! hehe)... and he drew the sketch of her as Wonder Woman... and now word is getting around for Jody Lynn to be WW!!! Coool! If only the gods would hear my prayers... (or rather WB!)

KeepItReal - 7/25/2009, 12:42 PM
11) Shes a biatch!!! ; D
12) Plus she's done her DC movie!
13) Man, she's unlucky, get it 13 heh heh. Okay i'll stop!

Tobuttica @ ; )

Keep @ Great minds ; )

I honestly thought of her as WW way before SHAMANS sketch though, ever since the very first episode of PRISON BREAK season 3, she was the one! Before that it was BIEL.

Linda Carter for her Mother! ; )
LEEE777 - 7/25/2009, 12:43 PM
WB you better or we'll all (apart from teabag) come to ya WB studios!!! ; D

Though MORENA BACCARIN don't get THE WASP, she'd be a good WW too!

LEEE777 - 7/25/2009, 12:52 PM
14) lacks the screen prescence of royalty
15) She is royally bitchy
16) hasn't proven versatility

I'm open to any (wonder)woman that can fill the role as an antithesis of what we described of Fox.

@ KIR: We have always been on the same page regarding the standards needing to be set for the Amazon Princess! ;-D
Phinehas - 7/25/2009, 12:56 PM
WOW LEEE! That picture of Morena next to Wonder Woman looks niiiice! really nice... hmmmm

If being a bitch had a degree Megan would have PHD. The only one she'd be capable of getting.

Phinehas: =)
KeepItReal - 7/25/2009, 1:20 PM
Awwww lol, that's a cute pic @ KEEP!

Yeah MEGAN for WW's used panties! : D

2 things....i like Depp as Dr. Strange...Strange is a weird ass dude...and Depp does weird ass characters better then anybody else in the biz...

Second...wonder woman...i saw someone mention royality...my vote Charlize Theron....Beautiful, tall, and one hell of an actress...she can dye her hair...we have seen her do some damage in Aeon Flux...
ZOtis4 - 7/25/2009, 3:42 PM
TC @ KEEP!

Z0tis4 @ ; )
LEEE777 - 7/25/2009, 4:02 PM
. . .What? Did someone who was there to speak about women taking serious roles as modern comic characters SERIOUSLY think that the only aspect of Wonder Woman important enough to comment on is that she needs a 'hot bod'?

As someone who loves real, strong, female characters? [frick] her. And [frick] her ridiculous, action Kung-Fu, spice girl, girl power, Hollywood idea of the character. Diana Prince would kick her ass for having that idea of what a 'strong woman' is.

Suffice to say, that's also a 'no' to Megan Fox. Jodi Lyn O'Keefe might be good, if she spent some time in the gym.
OptionFour - 7/25/2009, 5:54 PM
Mmmm, O Keefe does nothing for me i must say. Look at that pic teabag posted..yikes!
Rorschach01 - 7/25/2009, 6:01 PM
OptionFour I agree with you and I don't even like strong female characters. I've actually been annoyed by them in movies, but for a panel that's suppose to be all girl power and stuff they really shouldn't be talking about needing to have a hot bod.
stupify_me - 7/25/2009, 8:06 PM
Same here, Roar. Never liked O'keefe. That Rhona Mitra woman Teabag posted looks like she could fit the stature, though not sure about acting.
Shadowelfz - 7/25/2009, 9:49 PM
Meagan Fox? Zoe sweetie are you high? If i even sniff Meagan near a wonder woman script i will kick her ass myself...im so over her and her red lipstick. Ughh!!
MsKyle08 - 7/25/2009, 10:55 PM

Jodie 2

@ Phine & LEE - You are correct SIR about BIATCH Megan FOX
thegreek - 7/26/2009, 9:51 PM
I don't watch much TV (ala Prison Break), so I was waiting on more images and information on O'Keefe.

OOOOOooooooooooooooooooo! Me likey! If she looks like that cover of Maxim and could act, I'm in! Im on the Jodi O'Keefe for Wonder Woman bandwagon!

Oh! Needs lots of protein, creatine, and extensive and intensive work routine to build lean muscle mass. Not China big, but definitley like Linda Hamilton in T2 or Angela Bassett. She can go back to soft and supple afterwards. =D
Phinehas - 7/26/2009, 10:33 PM
I have that issue of Maxim, god is she ever hot

Fabiola Sarah Volant'e Is Wonder Woman!!

shapeshifter - 7/27/2009, 2:45 PM
Who else has the body and sex appeal to play Wonder Woman, besides 'Fabiola'? Obviously it takes more than just great looks to be an actress, but the average woman is fat, and most actresses are skinny and certainly don't have the facial features or body type that this voluptuous contender.
What acting skills and experience did Linda Carter have prior to her TV role as W.W.?
If we don't get to see Fabiola as the comic book heroine, how about a new and improved (rated R) version of Bay Watch?

shapeshifter - 7/27/2009, 2:50 PM
With all these super-hero movies, why hasn't any producer/director in Hollywood put forth a modern motion picture about 'Wonder Woman'? FABIOLA is the ONE! Sure, have a few scrawny talentless skanks at the auditions, but one look at Ms. Fabiola and those of us old enough to remember will think, "Linda Carter Who?

shapeshifter - 7/27/2009, 2:52 PM
Fabiola.... uh... I mean.. shapeshifter... enough. We dont want you... I mean.. We dont want Fabiola for Wonder Woman. It has been decided we dont like you, ummm.. her.. she doesnt look like wonder woman, and you.. i mean she cant act. Enough already.

Shibazz! Hey girl! =)

KeepItReal - 7/27/2009, 6:29 PM
KeepitReal did your comment actually make sense to you before you typed it out?
stupify_me - 7/27/2009, 6:34 PM
stupify_me : what do you care? im not talking to you.

KeepItReal - 7/27/2009, 6:47 PM
I understood it. And I went to publik scrool! lol I thought it was funny, KIR!

Shapeshifter, how is Fabiola going to present herself as young woman when she does the trials? You said it yourself, she was on Baywatch. THAT WAS ALMOST 20 YEARS AGO!!! As much as I don't like to discriminate against the aged, there still is a time & place for it. This is it! Not to mention, she looks a little mongoloid. I'm not trying to be mean, but her eyes are a little too squinty. I wanna see some angry blues right before the kick to the head.
Phinehas - 7/27/2009, 7:59 PM
Keepitreal. How am I suppose to know you aren't talking to me I had no idea what you were saying. Either way you should at least try to make sense.
stupify_me - 7/27/2009, 8:50 PM
Phinehas: LOL! thank you. I went to publik scrool too! haha.. me thinks the shapeshifter has shifted yet once more!... haha!... what say you?... they can't answer you right now becuz they are too busy occupying yet another form at the moment... heeheee... :P
KeepItReal - 7/27/2009, 9:20 PM
Way to go Stupify_me, thanks! You guys are funny, thanks for the entertainment. It's fun to watch how easily some can lose it when you find and push the right buttons. Keep laughing!!
shapeshifter - 7/27/2009, 9:29 PM
For the record; Fabiola was never on Baywatch, she was too young. Her eyes are not a problem, and the eyes are just a mirror so if you see mongoloid maybe that is how you see yourself, not that there is anything wrong with that.
shapeshifter - 7/27/2009, 9:50 PM
I already posted my thoughts on thoses articles when they were released. I have nothing more to say now than I did then. She isn't even on IMDb. She is a nobody. Not proven.
Phinehas - 7/27/2009, 10:09 PM
Wow! And the different personalities answer themselves too! Amazing!

"Lose it"? LOL! haha! They call that "losing it"?! hehe!! "Push the right buttons"?! LMAO...is that what you were trying to do?..hehe! "keep laughing"? aaahhh.. Thanks, I will! ROFLMFAO.

OK. Alright. I'll play nice & go along. Never know what the shape will shift into next! haha!! You win Fabiola...I mean Stupify_me...I mean Sybil...I mean.. Dr Jekyl/Mr. Hyde... I mean shapeshifter! Whew! Goodness.. I almost got confused with you there! haha!

Fabiola is a NOBODY. No one other than CBM has ever heard of her. Fabiola is UNIDENTIFIABLE as Wonder Woman. The only 3 things she has in common with Wonder Woman is:

1) she is a woman

2) she is Greek

3) she has black hair

Other than that Fabiola has NOTHING else to recommend her to be Wonder Woman. So sorry if this hurts your delicate sensibilities but it is what it is.
KeepItReal - 7/27/2009, 11:31 PM
Because I made a post on this article I'm suddenly some other guy named Fabiola? Do you ever even read this site? I'm a regular poster my friend.
stupify_me - 7/28/2009, 7:59 AM
A Greek and has black hair?!?! She must be the one!!!! LOL With those qualifications you could cast Nia Vardalos from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". lol

Fabiola doesn't have it. I can tell from the article that she would just use this to get her big break after years of sitting on the sidelines of obscurity. We know nothing about her. It's like Barak Obama. No birth certificate, no college transcripts. Total strangers with nothing substanative to indicate who they are and what they believe, except their word. ;-)
Phinehas - 7/28/2009, 8:31 AM
Let me say that I don't want Fabiola neither. There are better people out there, they only need to be found. Jody, my favourite Ivana and Rhona Mitra are better options. Perhaps Rhona not so much, it's my impression that she has the same rank of facial expressions that a piece of furniture. By the way, we should not take Jody's picture on Maxim as a reference, because it was April 2000 or sooner when it was made.

I know this is off-topic, but what do you think about a cameo of Elephteria Arvanitaki in the film?
Merinator - 7/28/2009, 8:49 AM
MEGAN GALE! MEGAN GALE! MEGAN GALE!

QuickPost

Just so we're clear - my vote is for Megan Gale
Wrigs - 7/28/2009, 1:30 PM
She looks good but Fabiola Sarah Volant'e Is Wonder Woman!!
shapeshifter - 7/28/2009, 1:52 PM
Personally I have no real choice for this part. I think it's the hardest character to cast because there is no way to be perfect. You suppose to find a tall sort of buff woman that's actually hot at the same time. In my mind it's not really possible and defys the laws of physics. I don't anyone has made a suggestion that would be a perfect choice, because none of these woman are all that buff most of them are hot tall and skinny.
stupify_me - 7/28/2009, 1:59 PM
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Fabiola will have her chance along with the others and the right choice for Wonder Woman will be made, (Fabiola or no) And Not By You Guys, so everyone relax and ride the Wave, if you can!!
shapeshifter - 7/28/2009, 2:07 PM
Oye Merinator! Como te fue? "a cameo of Elephteria Arvanitaki in the film?" How would you work it in?

Wrigs: So who was your vote for again? =) She is very beautiful.
KeepItReal - 7/28/2009, 5:12 PM
shapeshifter WTF? What idiot did I put in their place? I simply said that I don't think any of these people are right for the part including your pick for the role. I gave my opinion I didn't put anyone in their place.
stupify_me - 7/28/2009, 6:01 PM
Stupify_me; Thanks very much for your opinion!
shapeshifter - 7/28/2009, 6:08 PM
Please, forgive me. I wanted to say a cameo (a song) of Elephteria Arvanitaki in the soundtrack, she is the most famous greek singer nowadays.

KIR, no me ha ido mal del todo, gracias por preguntar :)
Merinator - 7/29/2009, 1:54 PM
Okay, since no one commented on the last one..I'll do it one more time!

davidcub - 7/31/2009, 11:35 PM
Yeah, well, she's no FABIOLA! That's for sure!
davidcub - 8/2/2009, 2:43 PM
comicbookmovie.com — Fabiola looks great, she is strong, beautiful, and projects an energy not seen in a long time. She would be perfect for the Wonder Woman role in that she brings a fresh wholesome look/feeling that is truly Wonder Woman.

shapeshifter - 8/2/2009, 6:23 PM

Every "somebody/actor" was once a "nobody". Where would all the fans who love and can't wait for their heroes to portray our fantasies and dreams be if every time a "nobody" let negativity stand in their way? That is what makes the world go around, it is what the world is made of, people who persevered and endured and became a "somebody!
