Talking to PopcornBiz, DC Comics Co-publisher San Didio has seemingly confirmed rumors that the marriage between Clark Kent and Lois Lane WILL come to an end in the upcoming relaunch.

"Let’s just say it's being reexamined, because it's something that I think is something that is so valuable to the character's story that you really want to explore all facets of it. Not just as it exists currently."

I think what you're going to see is a lot of big changes for Superman. We really went back to the core of the character. And more importantly, we got somebody in Grant Morrison, who's really taking the character and reinventing him so you feel a real contemporary tone, a really contemporary time, but still staying true to the core. I think it's so important for us to make sure Superman stays as relevant today as he did when he first was created back in the '30s."

"Not just as it exists currently." I suppose you could read into that in a few different ways, but looking at everything he has to say makes me think it's far more likely that he's referring to the end of the marriage between Clark and Lois, especially as the above text was in fact an answer to whether Superman will be a single man (Kryptonian?) in the new DCnU. What do you think about this decision? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

I might not read either of the two Superman comics since I can't seem to hear a single good idea that is coming out of them. Why can't people just respect continuity?

This is totally stupid. Superman needs Lois. She's one of his main links to humanity. This is a really bad move on DC's part. This whole relaunch thing is sounding more and more stupid with every post.

Superman's love life outside of Lois is almost non existent when he is with someone else then the first question is "why isn't she there"?

Also this whole shuffling of DC is suppose to make things more open to general audiences removing Lois would hurt the perception of Superman because everyone associates the two of them together.

And did he confirm or didn't he?

@ jazzman

of course it does, but i think it didn't do spider-man comics any favors.

alot of the fans were pissed.

What would Clark Kent do, if he only had One More Day?????? ;)

I don't like the sound of this! Hopefully they'll just relaunch their relationship to the point BEFORE they were married- -where there was a lot of sexual tension between the two characters, and not have the Kents get a divorce.

@Teabag-HAHA nice.

This is really dumb. Writers can't come up with new ideas so the always take a step backwards... Get it together DC. Just move the story forward. Give them a kid or something. They've been together for so long and no kid... Lame. If Batman can have a kid I think Superman should be intitled to one. Plus he'd be a great dad and it would make for interesting storylines.

Oh my god it's Amazing Spider-Man: One More Day all over again! There is nothing new or creative about this! And I know this article is about Superman, but do any Spidey fans agree with me that One More Day has done little for Spidey? Sure the new/revamped villains are good, but could they not have been done somehow in the previous continuity? All that seems to have been achieved is the characters regressing to what they were some years previously and Peter and Mary Jane sleeping with other people. I'm sure this sort of thing will happen in Superman.

the marrage was a gimmick to boost interest in the lois and clark tv show. im not too upset this is going away. besides, now we have even more room for interesting love triangles (lois, wonder woman, man o steel).

@RadicalDuck-I'm with you all the way on that. One More Day was the worst thing they've ever done to Spidey. And this is just equally as bad to me. Superman doesn't whore it up. He is a man with morals.... DC and Marvel both need to get some. Not every character or person on the planet wants to be with multiple people when they have already found that one special person...

@teabag right on man..got my facts mixed up..still felt gimmicky when it happened. but on the other side of the coin, i hated one more day that dissolved petey and marys marrage. that one felt more natural, especially with pete being the every man who finally gets his girl (then again, look at spideys track record, felicia, betty, gwen, dude had game).

@SolidSnake007: I agree, I think giving the Kents a child of their own (not Christopher 'Son Of Zod' Kent)would make for some really interesting storylines. I was a little surprised that DC didn't give L&C a baby before/around the time Superman Returns was released. That being said, IF & WHEN they do introduce a child into \S/'s life I hope it doesn't inherit its father's powers.

ellispart3 - 6/16/2011, 3:27 PM
@WittySupername i agree with 110% i just didnt feel that L&C marrage was organic when it happened (60 years in the making or not).
