Chadwick Boseman Talks Prepping For 'Black Panther' Role In CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

Without going into great detail, Chadwick Boseman has discussed how he's currently preparing for his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Black Panther, and also how he celebrated the role.

Before Chadwick Boseman presented the Hollywood Blockbuster Award to Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt and director James Gunn at the Hollywood Film Awards yesterday, the Get On Up actor was pressed on the red carpet about his upcoming role as Marvel's Black Panther. "I'll be in Captain America: Civil War," he told reporters. "We're preparing for that right now as well; [I'm] just sort of beginning the workout for that. We also have A Message From the King which will happen before [Civil War]." Meanwhile, IMDB asked Boseman what did he do right after finding out the casting was official. "I told some of my close friends," Chadwick replied. "I had to keep quiet about it, so there wasn't a lot I could do to be honest. It was mainly after it was announced I could celebrate it with people. Just to spend some time with people that I care about afterwards. I'm actually preparing for another role at this moment. A Message From the King is the movie I'm doing next. I'm doing prep for that. To some degree, there are some things I have to do at the same time. Black Panther will have its time when it gets complete focus." In A Message From the King, Chadwick Boseman will be playing a South African man, so perhaps he'll be using that role to prep his accent for T'Challa. What do you think? Anyhow, Captain America: Civil War is set for release on May 6, 2016, and Black Panther will hit November 3, 2017.

"Of course, interviewers have failed to ask anything about that."

Preach! It's almost like reporters/interviewers have completely forgotten how to ask compelling, provoking questions. I bet we could've had MANY more crazy headlines and interesting news in the past if people just knew how to ask the right questions.

@SauronsBANE Had to take that out, but I'm glad someone agrees with me!

@DCMarvelFreshman Aw too bad, that line made me chuckle haha.

It's true though, it seems like most interviews these days seem to just be full of cutesy, safe, obvious questions. I get that the more blunt questions would probably be met by a "No comment", but it doesn't hurt to try, right? And besides, more creative questions would answer stuff like "Is Boseman practicing his accent for his role?" or any number of other interesting, non-spoilery stuff.

@Ezio

Yeah, Gunn hit the nail on that one. Glad he's passionate about the film and sequels as well.

Oh man, I cannot wait for some of these new movies from Marvel and DC. Definitely Black Panther tops my list though. Also, Aquaman could be decent if done well. It's hard to tell though we're DC is going to go with their films. I enjoyed Man of Steel, but personally I prefer the more light-hearted antics that the MCU puts out. I grew up reading the old comics from the 60's and early 70's that were my Uncle's when he was young, so I'm not so much into the whole gritty realism that was Man of Steel. Just my preference. So excited for the next 5 years for CBM's. Except Ant-Man. I have absolutely no interst in that one. I will see it, only to find out what attracted Michael Douglas to be in it, but I may wait to see it on demand.

@TomSolo I agree about this movie and Aquaman. And to kinda echo James Gunn's "controversial comment", I'm truly curious as to how they're gonna pull that off. How do the underwater scenes work and such? Will they just resort to a network of deep sea caves? How will the characters communicate while in the water?

Boseman's a brilliant choice. I haven't seen Get on Up, but he was great in 42.
