Andrew Garfield ("The Social Network") is a busy boy, promoting his new movie 99 Homes at the presitigious Toronto International Film Festival. While there, he chatted with the Toronto Sun about the new Sinister Six movie that is in the works. That film is being directed by Drew Goddard, who previously did the horror-comedy Cabin In The Woods.

“I know more than I’m allowed to say right now,” Garfield told us.

“I can say I’m really excited about Drew Goddard, who’s going to be writing and directing The Sinister Six movie. And whether I’m involved in that or not is kind of immaterial.”

Sinister Six won't arrive in theaters until November 11, 2016, but a the next Amazing Spider-Man film won't arrive until 2018. Geez, I don't even know if I'll be alive by then. Marc Webb didn't exactly leave the franchise in great shape. Hopefully they use the extra time wisely to get the Spidey franchise on the right track for once.

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead. It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp...

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be directed by Marc Webb from a script written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner and James Vanderbilt. The film will star Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Sally Field as Aunt May, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, Jamie Foxx is Electro and Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn. The Amazing Spider-Man sequel will swing into theaters May 2, 2014.

Yes Andrew, Spider-Man isn't at all important to the Sinister Six...

Who the hell wants this movie WITHOUT Spidey?

I just don't get what their overall goal is. The Sinister Six are not The Avengers, their SOLE PURPOSE is to kill Spider-Man. That's it! Without him, without some kind of conflict, what are they trying to overcome? And don't tell me that the conflict is each other because the only way I see that ending is all of them grouped in a room together and hashing out their feelings and that's [frick]ing lame.

I'm really curious as to just what this film is. Is it going to be an origin story for the Six? Who's the antagonist? Will Spider-Man make a small appearance? Or will they fight Oscorp? Is Green Goblin one of the six, or is he just a manipulator of them? So many questions, yet next to no information.

It could be good.

Could...

Or it could be the worst piece of shit in history. BUT it could be good.

Well, that's a bit extreme...

I feel bad for Drew Goddard. He's a talented writer and director and he's making a movie that nobody asked for and nobody wants to see.

Then again, he ditched Daredevil for this.

Magnets are motherfvcking magic!

At least, that's what the Insane Clown Posse taught me.

As much as I hate this 'atrocious' franchise, I think Garfield has done an OK job with such ignorance he's had to work with.

As with Sinister Six, I enjoyed Cabin in the Woods. Slahser-Comedy was blended really well to deliver enough jumps and laughs. But I don't see this film being anymore than a vividly dense movie.

Not a huge fan of this saying, in fact it's quite annoying, but this property really needs to revert.

At least with a studio such as Fox, who deviate a lot of things, have proven (at least to the general consensus) they are capable of making a good movie.

These guys... Nope.

Though, I'm not defending Fox either. Both are targets :P

I just sat down and watched The Cabin In The Woods and noticed a few things that reminded me of the Sinister Six:

Wraiths = Mysterio

God Hand = Sandman

I think the Sinister Six movie is going to be all about the Villain team getting set up. It'll be more about the relationships between the villains than them actually "fighting" someone. Then TASM 3 will be all about Spider-man teaming up with Black Cat and possibly Venom to fight the Sinister Six!
Dingbat
Dingbat - 9/9/2014, 6:57 PM
Let me make this clear: We have never seen a film like this in the the CBM genre. If this is done well it could open up even more possibilities. If it fails, don't expect to see the legion of doom anytime soon.

Maybe the Sinister Six will have the villains come together under Oscorp and work for them. Then Doc Ock will be like "[frick] this" and take leadership duties from Harry Osborn.

Plus they did this really cool thing with a phantom limb, which is an ability Octavius had in the comics:

Telepathic Control over Tentacles: Octopus could control the actions of his artificial arms psionically, even when they have been severed from his body and are separated from him by vast distances (900 miles). In the event that Octopus lost consciousness, the control module of each arm had enough pre-programmed conditional responses in its memory chip to enable it to perform a relatively complex sequence of actions, such as saving his life. The trauma of his arm or arms being separated from the harness causes a period of disorientation in which his arms flail about uncontrollably until the pre-programming takes over.

Seriously? You hate Garfield for something he's not responsible for? Whatever you think of TASM or TASM2, you can't possibly blame Garfield for what is SONY'S franchise. You act as if he wrote the damn thing. He's just doing the version of Spider-Man that Sony wants him to do.

And I still say he's perfect as Spider-Man. But he's NOT Peter Parker. But that's the version Sony wanted.

If you want anyone in particular to rant on, be my guest.

This movie is going to SUCK! You really expect Sony to give us a really good villain movie when the last 4 villains have been horrible e.g. Lizard, Electro, Green Goblin, and Rhino.

This sounds like a complete waste of time. A Spider-Man movie without Spidey.

Well they don't really have a choice for the next few years. If they did a reboot AGAIN, the box office numbers would be even lower, and not a lot would be interested in it.

I'm assuming what he means is: Spidey will only be seen IN SUIT and since anyone can wear it, his inclusion isn't important.

...Of course, that'd mean he's forgetting how much Spidey talks while fighting... Now I'm nervous. As said, killing Spidey is the only reason all the egos of the S6 work together

Garfield is a plus to this franchise. He's the best Spider-Man ever. His Peter Parker is only weak due to script issues. Not his fault.

Man I remember when I was actually pumped for the reboot. A fresh take on what I thought was a dying franchise. The first ASM came out, I loved it though there were things I would've done a lot differently. But then ASM2 came out, and while I didn't hate it, I felt underwhelmed walking out of the theatre. But this, this is just kind of ridiculous.

Actually, done of casting choices for this rebooted franchise have been terrible. Contrary to popular belief, Jamie Foxx CAN act and Dane DeHaan's acting cannot even be questioned. (Watch Chronicle.) Again, TASM2 had a terrible script and pathetic direction. Not the fault of any of the actors.

I'm loving how the various respective studios are now scampering to place their trailblazing stamps while differentiating from the competition. If things work right, Sony Pictures will lead the way in the Supervillain Sagas. @acorsi11 is definitely onto something.
