Thought Of Not Playing Catwoman Again Brings Anne Hathaway To Tears; Reiterates Spin-Off Interest

Anne Hathaway is having quite the year. She got married, her performance in Les Misérables is generating early Oscar buzz, but it's the thought of not playing Selina Kyle again that has her in tears.

“Assuming there was enough Kleenex in the world, I would love to do a spin-off.”

It's funny to think that if Jonathan Nolan hadn't pushed his fellow writers, David Goyer and his brother, Christopher Nolan, there wouldn't be a Catwoman/Selina Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises. Thus, we would have never witnessed the amazing multi-layered performance that Anne Hathaway gave. Well, thank goodness for the character and her importance to completely Batman won out.

Michelle Beadle of Access Hollywood caught up with Anne as she was promoting her new movie, Les Miserables. Which I think in English means "French Bellyachers," but I could be wrong. Anywho, Beadle asks Anne if a spin-off is in the works. "“No one’s talked to me about it,” Anne said. "I would love it. I actually, it’s so embarrassing, I was at a press Q & A thing the other night for a screening of ‘The Dark Knight,’ and the moderator asked me, ‘So what was it like to say goodbye to the character?’ And I burst into tears, because I miss her,” the 30-year-old said. “It just makes me cry. I miss her. I love Selena so much and I love her presence in my life and getting to… I’m crying again.”

The Dark Knight Rises will be released on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Download on December 4th. The film stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John "Robin" Blake and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate/Talia al Ghul.

It would only work if Nolan directed. But he won't.

As a massive fan and constant reader of the early 90's Catwoman comic series and more importantly the Ed Brubaker run, Anne could not have given a better performance. Say what you want about the Nolan movies not being true to the comics, Catwoman was as true as any ever has. Just have a look at Catwoman #1 from the 1993 run, almost everything from that was used in the film.

Before the movie was released I thought John Blake was gonna end up with Catwoman and have their Batman/Catwoman relationship, whereas Bruce would end up with Miranda. The age difference would make sense.

I really liked Anne in this role, but I don't know if I'd want to see a Catwoman solo film right now. Maybe down the road. It would definitely be a lot better than that Halle Berry crap lol

No, you're not spidermoe7. She was sassy and spunky, but I didn't believe for a second the relationship she and Bruce had over Michelle Pfieffer and Michael Keaton's Selina and Bruce. At times she pissed me off too at how one moment she's here and the next she's gone. And multi-layered? What is she an onion? Anne did what she did with the character, but no one can beat what Michelle did with it. That to me was Catwoman. Shit... Julie Newmar and the 60's gals were Catwoman (except for Eartha Kitt) and yeah.. the least said about Halle Barry's rendition the better.

And sorry, folks, but there's going to be no spin-offs. No JGL Nightwing or Batman. No Anne returning as Catwoman. No further adventures. WB is all prep to reboot and bring back the fantasy-elements after Nolan's films because they want to compete with Marvel and also because of $$$$.

When they cast her she was the one actor I was somewhat worried about. Then she ended up being the scene stealer of the movie. Every time she was on-screen the movie got better.

Did they do that with the Green Lantern? Look how ridiculous it was. It was worse than a bad video game.

Anne Hathaway was the best part of 'Rises'. It's unfortunate that her character wasn't fleshed out and that every romantic relationship in that movie seemed forced.

Talia and Bruce having sex came out of nowhere. Did those two even have any chemistry before they peeled off their clothes? It was kind of like, you look wet, lets have sex.

Selina just takes off with Bruce at the end after she stabs him in the back a few times. And, they really, don't seem to have any romantic chemistry with one another.

They did very little to develop her character, but she did a great job with what she was given to work with.

They can't let her because the Reboot will need a Catwoman unless she plays that Catwoman also.

Every time my wife and I go to see a movie we end up talking about how terrible The Dark Knight Rises was. No joke. Months later we're still cringing. But Anne did well with what she had and I have no doubt that as an actor it was fun to get into that character.

But for the love of god can we pry Nolan off of the DC Universe now please? I'd love to see any actor or her skill play a character she loves but Nolan needs to go do...something else.

@nailbiter - preach it!

Seriously, who can read that and not like Anne Hathoway even more? She is AWESOME. How lucky are we as fans to have someone who puts so much of herself into her character that she breaks down like that thinking of never being her again? That tells me so much about how Nolan let these actors explore their characters. Three cheers for everyone in that cast. Such an amazing series, I don't care what your ticky tacky fanboy preferences are.
