Sam Raimi on Spiderman 5 and 6

Director of the Spider-Man series talks about Spider-Man beyond the 4th installment.
Mtv Splashpage asked the director, will he be back to commandeer any further adventures of that amazing wall crawler?

And this is what he has to say:

"Every time I make one of the 'Spider-Man' movies, I have to ask myself, is the character still intriguing to me?"

"Do I love the character? Am I dying to tell the next story of Peter Parker and Spider-Man?"

"And so far the answer has been yes,"

---
I really admire Sam's commitment to the series, and I really hope that he will deliver in this next installment. Hopefully the studio does not hinder his vision.

You have to give it to Mr. Raimi, I think he knows when to stop. If the next movie in the series is like the third one, then it's time to stop but if it's similar to the first two, then please, Mr. Sam Raimi, please do continue and prove to us that number three was just a hiccup.

peterparker420 - 10/14/2009, 2:55 PM
What happened to Whispers Article...it was done ages before this one????????
teabag - 10/14/2009, 2:55 PM
Didnt someone else already publish this article!?!

Anyway, Id rather wait and see how Raimi does with Spider-Man 4 before he starts making plans for 5 & 6! If 4 is half as bad as 3 the Id rather find a new director! I dont want Raimi to screw up The Sinister Six (who will hopefully feature in the sixth movie!!!)
joshw24 - 10/14/2009, 2:55 PM
Hrm
MultiPurposePoni - 10/14/2009, 2:56 PM
Raimi is old-school you will see lizard, kraven at some point. Spiderman 3 was not his fault it was avi arad who said " The kids love venom" venom is not for kids to begin with. With raimi in full control there is no worries anymore he will rock spiderman again.
SHHH - 10/14/2009, 2:56 PM
I thought i just commented on this lol???????

LIZARD & KRAVEN!!!
LEEE777 - 10/14/2009, 2:58 PM
Btw spiderman 1 and 2 some of the best comic book movies ever made!
SHHH - 10/14/2009, 2:58 PM
BTW SHHH @ Your right!! ; )
LEEE777 - 10/14/2009, 3:05 PM
Again yeah Sinister 6 for Spider-man 6... Raimi or no Raimi
access - 10/14/2009, 3:05 PM
RAIMI is the best for SPIDEY, [frick] anyone else, he wont make a SPIDEY 3 again, he's not stupid.
LEEE777 - 10/14/2009, 3:07 PM
Yup I agree with both LEEE and SHHH and everyone else with the same 3 consecutive letters.
access - 10/14/2009, 3:07 PM
ACCESS @ SINISTER SIX FOR SPIDEY 6!!!

; D
LEEE777 - 10/14/2009, 3:07 PM
I think he's more than proven himself with the first 2 movies. And we all know 3 wasn't his fault. As long as he's in control I'm sure he'll do just fine.
HeyVanity - 10/14/2009, 3:07 PM
@ tebag & Josh

I was asking mysel the same question about my article being posted first as I checked my phone's browser for updates. Seems although I posted my article with the video before this one, there may have been an error or two in mine...not exactly.
Whispers68 - 10/14/2009, 3:13 PM
Please find a way to work things out so the existing franchises at other studios can get more oversight from Marvel, and cross-over into their properties.
njfuzzy - 10/14/2009, 3:13 PM
What has 2 thumbs and is about to be chewed out for his opinion?- This guy right here!

And here goes: Even though I believe he got the concept of the character, I believe his execution of it is terribly lacking. Let me elaborate. Peter Parker is a man with many personal problems, yes? Yes, as in the movie. However the actual character Tobey Maguire plays in all three movie's is a pure timid wuss (EVEN AFTER BEING BITTEN). My Peter has a straight sarcastic humor which shows through with or without his suit on. He uses it as defense mechanism which helps make light of not only his personal problems but the scary ass villains he fights. It gives him an air of control in situations where he might not have any. Peter in the movie almost seems like a Clark Kent analogue. He's maybe done 5 one-liners in all three movies. That is not a sufficient amount. So for that and not that alone, I seriously disliked all the Spiderman movies.

But thats just me.
Mercenary - 10/14/2009, 3:24 PM
Even though 1 & 2 were pretty brilliant lets just hope they find balance of drama and humour this time! No more long crying scenes and no more long shots of Peter swaggering down the street winking at women and snapping his fingers like the fonz!!!

Mercenary: I agree with 99% of what you're saying! Raimi seems to go on and on and on about making the movies about Peter Parker - but his Peter Parker is nothing like Peter Parker, lol!
joshw24 - 10/14/2009, 3:28 PM

Heh heh heh.
LEEE777 - 10/14/2009, 3:32 PM
Josh W i s right,

Raimi has been some what of a let down of recent....

If 4 comes off ok then I will happy.

If not , well then,

Lets just say Id hate to be Raimi, if you know what I mean.
Skyh00k - 10/14/2009, 3:33 PM
SHHH - Please don't take this the wrong way, but ARE YOU HIGH?! "Spiderman 3 was not his fault..."? Don't blame the crap-fest that was SM3 on Avi and the folks at Marvel, that distict honor belongs SOLELY to Raimi!

Who decided to cram the film with too many villians? RAIMI! Who was it that turned the Sandman story-arc into nothing but afterthought? RAIMI!! Who was it that KILLED Venom? RAIMI!!! Who was it that gave us 'Disco-Stu' Peter Parker (as if Tobey McGuire wasn't a big enough dork!)? RAIMI!!!! It's pretty hard to swallow the idea that his arm was being twisted by Avi and Marvel to do all this crap when he also claims to have artistic integrity about his work! Why didn't he just WALK AWAY? You want to know why? Because it was HIS IDEA to begin with!

After that last Shumacher-esque fiasco, I say lower the man by his toenails into a vat of boiling human excrement!
loganoneil - 10/14/2009, 3:33 PM
That was to the last SPIDEY 3 movie, WE want better!!!

; )
LEEE777 - 10/14/2009, 3:33 PM
Josh24: You're 99% my main man.
Mercenary - 10/14/2009, 3:35 PM
he got peter parker right in the 3rd one, bi-polar sittin up all night listening to the police scanner.
SHHH - 10/14/2009, 3:36 PM
Mercenary - GREAT CALL!! TOTALLY agree with what your're saying!!!
loganoneil - 10/14/2009, 3:37 PM
Its not fair to blame anyone but Raimi for the Spider-Man 3 fiasco! Sure, he may have been influenced by the studio but surely afte making two decent Spidey films he could see how awful the script was for all the reasons loganoneil listed!?! Just look at how much time was spent with all the Peter/MJ crap whilst Venom had about 10mins of screen time! Heasked Sandman to help him take on Spider-Man and a few minutes later they had taken over a construction site and taken MJ!?! Venom was a wasted character who had a lot more potential! And it was Raimi who was behind that!!
joshw24 - 10/14/2009, 3:39 PM
SHHH - maybe, but he was still being played by the eternal high school dork, Tobey McGuire! Tobey - acting like a whiney emo wimp may have worked in the first film, but the character is a junior in college now! How are you going to emo your way outta' that?!!
loganoneil - 10/14/2009, 3:40 PM
loganoneil- totally my main man.

COME ON!! WHO ELSE AGREES WITH ME!?
Mercenary - 10/14/2009, 3:40 PM
@loganoneil@ on my way lol

Raimi did not want venom in the movie to begin with, He was forced to throw Venom after it was written. That alone is a recipe for disaster. Or am i wrong.
SHHH - 10/14/2009, 3:40 PM
Preach on, brother joshw! PREACH ON!!!
loganoneil - 10/14/2009, 3:41 PM
Im personally hated spiderman 3 studio and arad shoved 2 movies into one!
SHHH - 10/14/2009, 3:42 PM
Im personally hated spiderman 3 studio and arad shoved 2 movies into one!
SHHH - 10/14/2009, 3:43 PM
SHHH - I say again - if he didn't like it, WHY DIDN'T HE WALK AWAY? After 1 & 2, he was Marvel's golden boy and could do no wrong! If he REALLY didn't like the idea(s), he had more than enough clout to make any changes he saw fit!
loganoneil - 10/14/2009, 3:43 PM
By the way,,, RAIMI said he didn't want VENOM at the time but it was forced on him!! : D

You gotta give the guy KUDOS for SPIDEY 1 & 2 two of the best superhero movies of our time!!

Believe!! ; D
LEEE777 - 10/14/2009, 3:44 PM
SHHH: Exactly!!! Sandman is not a good enough villain to have a whole movie to himself so they made the mistake of throwing in Green Goblin-lite and Venom-lite instead of balancing things out properly! To top that off, they spent the rest of the movie more and more Peter/MJ rubbish - did we really need to have 20mins of the movie dedicated to Harry splitting them up!?!

loganoneil: LOL! How about them justifying bringing in the weak character of Sandman by making him Uncle Ben's killer!?! Raimi is supposed to love these characters from what I've read in the past - Venom may have been forced on him but was that idiotic sub plot!?! If Raimi screws the next one up, its time for him to GO! Amen brother! ;)
joshw24 - 10/14/2009, 3:48 PM
LEEE - IF Raimi DID say that, don't you think it's possbile he was just trying to cover his @ss for the [excrement]-bomb he was making?
loganoneil - 10/14/2009, 3:49 PM
Okay, lets say it was forced on him. Which, I believe. If he wanted to keep the job then it is his job to make it work as a story. He didn't do that. He could have easily set the venom arc in the third. Showed Venom for the same amount of time he did, BUT set it up for Venom majorly for fourth.
Mercenary - 10/14/2009, 3:50 PM
Joshw24 - I'll get a fire going and start ordering the super-sized Taco Bell value meals now...!
loganoneil - 10/14/2009, 3:50 PM
logan - you are a cynic! Avi is gone from that position, so let's see what happens! How could Raimi have made the first two so good if he was as bad as you think? It's all about second chances, man!
JonF - 10/14/2009, 3:51 PM
Mercenary - OR... IF Venom WAS forced on him, why didn't he just drop the whole Sandman / Green Goblin Jr. story and focus solely on 'the man in black'?
loganoneil - 10/14/2009, 3:52 PM
Im personally hated spiderman 3 studio and arad shoved 2 movies into one!
SHHH - 10/14/2009, 3:53 PM
TACO BELLS mmmmmm! ; D

AVI was the biggest pimp whore going, that guy would sell his own family off lol!

MERCENARY @ Well at least we might get a decent VENOM in the VENOM movie!! Well as long as they lose that kn*B GRACE lol.

LEEE777 - 10/14/2009, 3:56 PM
JonF: To me he's had three chances, thats enough. Oh man when I saw how RDJ played Stark, I seriously got pyssed off because I see Peter Parker with a very similar humor aspect to the character.
Mercenary - 10/14/2009, 3:56 PM
@loganoneil@ Professionals don't walk away, he was not gonna let anyone touch his baby. And he has a contract
SHHH - 10/14/2009, 3:58 PM
Its common knowledge that VENOM was forced on him, he dont even like VENOM and didn't really know a lot about him, google stuff, its all there in the funny pages! ; D

SONYS fault i reckon!

SANDMAN was awesome in SPIDEY 3, had no prob with him at all!

LEEE777 - 10/14/2009, 3:59 PM
2 many power people with pull, leave Raimi alone and let him work
SHHH - 10/14/2009, 4:00 PM
loganoneil: lol, ill bring the beer! ;D You're right about Venom - if the character was forced on him to that much of an extent then why not make him the centre of attention!?! Why end up ruining what could have been 3 awesome villains!?!

Raimi is also responsible for too much of this!!!

whiner
joshw24 - 10/14/2009, 4:00 PM
JonF - LOYALTY does not belong in movie making - movie making is a BUSINESS! You get one chance to hook the audience. Granted, he did that with 1 & 2, but (I say again) 3 was a COMPLETE crap-fest!

As for your question, "How could Raimi have made the first two so good if he was as bad as you think?", may I remind you that it's not that hard to imagine. Case in point - are you aware that the director of the cult classic vampire flick 'The Lost Boys' is also the same a-hole who gave us 'Batman & Robin' (aka 'Death of a Franchise')? Yup you guessed it, Joel Schumacher!
loganoneil - 10/14/2009, 4:00 PM
@LEEE777 @ Thank you.

SHHH - 10/14/2009, 4:02 PM
BUT JOSH @ You liked that piece of sh!T WOLVERINE SHITTERINES?????

LMAO!!! You wanna nit pick try that piece of superhero sh!T! : D
LEEE777 - 10/14/2009, 4:02 PM
loganeil: I am the last person who is going to make excuses for Raimi. But as I understand it, Sandman was a character he really wanted to use, Harry was a character the arc required. Should he have cut Sandman out? Yes, but he probably was really looking forward to using him. It sucks for an artist to be told what to do ENTIRELY but if he wanted it that badly he should have found a better way to make it work.
Mercenary - 10/14/2009, 4:03 PM
@joshw24

He did make him a cry baby
SHHH - 10/14/2009, 4:03 PM
EMO SPIDEY SUCKED though, i'll give you that! : p
LEEE777 - 10/14/2009, 4:03 PM
SHHH: Tel me about it! :D

joshw24 - 10/14/2009, 4:04 PM
LEEE - Avi is NOT the biggest pimp whore going, that dubious honor belongs to Stan 'The Man' Lee! THAT guy would sell his own family off AND charge interest (but first, he'd make a cameo)! If anything, Avi leared all he could at the feet of his Sith master!

loganoneil - 10/14/2009, 4:05 PM
YEP LOGAN @ You've got a point there, STAN THE MAN is too!!

Seriously i hope he don't appear as LARRY KING in THOR or something, even VENOM, Take you outta the movie everytime lol!

He will always be the great WILLIE LUMPKIN!! : D
LEEE777 - 10/14/2009, 4:13 PM
I wanna see a STAN THE MAN Movie!!!
LEEE777 - 10/14/2009, 4:14 PM
Actually Sandman is Tobey's fault ,I read a magazine where he said Sandman is his favorite villian and he wants him for 3!

InSpace - 10/14/2009, 4:14 PM
LEE: A Stan Lee biography movie would be awesome!!! Im suprised one has never actually been made! I love his cameos though so I hope he keeps on making them!!!
joshw24 - 10/14/2009, 4:16 PM
I liked SANDMAN a lot!! ?

Its [frick]ing VENOM being a pussy that [frick]ed the movie up lol!
LEEE777 - 10/14/2009, 4:18 PM
Ok, I completely agree with loganoneil on Sam Raimi wrecked Spidey 3 with the dancing Spidey and crying Spidey but I still love the first two Spidey movies. Its time for Sam Raimi to go back to the drawing board (or comic book as it were) and try and make Spidey 4 a little closer to the comics and it will hopefully have more of the quality of Iron Man because it will need it to compare against today's brilliant comic book movies
dancingmonkey08 - 10/14/2009, 4:21 PM
JOSH @ It would wouldn't it!!!!

You know, im surprised too!!

He could even have a part at the end of three quarters through playing himself!!
LEEE777 - 10/14/2009, 4:25 PM
Anyway, Im off to play Uncharted 2 - I managed to get my hands on it 2 days before its released here in the UK so Ill be back in a few hours, lol! :)
joshw24 - 10/14/2009, 4:26 PM
Josh: I just got my Uncharted 2 copy a few minutes ago. Can't wait to start it!

Spider-Man 3 was Raimi's fault, AND the fault of the studio for pushing Venom in. I think it's unfair to blame one party alone.

Raimi came up with the sh*t idea of Sandman being involved in Uncle Ben's death, the emo spidey crap, and the piss-poor acting, save for a couple of actors.

True, the studio did push Venom into the movie, but don't you think Raimi could have done a better job handling the character and the Symbiote stuff? It seems like he half assed everything about that storyline, I highly doubt the studio made him turn Peter emo, make him dance down the street, turn Harry into an extreme snowboarder, come up with that ridiculous way of making Harry see the truth about Spidey and his father's death, the list goes on.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/14/2009, 4:38 PM
@Tyler. It was the studio's fault, not Raimi's. They had the entire script rewrote a half dozen times and Sandman killing Ben and Venom being in it were their ideas. venom was a last minute add on, and Raimi said he didn't understand the character, eh wanted Vulture in it, and set up Lizard for 4, but that didn't happen.
THEHAWK - 10/14/2009, 4:48 PM
@Access. You fixed it! I can talk!
THEHAWK - 10/14/2009, 4:49 PM
Hawk: Raimi still could have done a way better job. He handled each character extremely poorly, and pretty much half assed everything that wasn't CGI. It looked like he didn't put any effort in to make the movie good.

It's also the director's job to generate good performances from his actors, not his/her job alone mind you, but the director has to make sure he's getting the best from his/her actors, something which Raimi did not do at all.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/14/2009, 4:53 PM
HAWK @ Ive been trying to tell 'em lol, it don't sink in!

: D
LEEE777 - 10/14/2009, 4:58 PM
Raimi needs to be allowed total control so he can deliver a quality film. Hopefully we will get a well done Spidey story.
hewilldefytheirgravity - 10/14/2009, 5:11 PM
AVI ARAD DID PUSH VENOM ON RAIMI.AND FANS DID YELL FOR VENOM TO BE IN THE FILM...I MEAN WHO DOESN'T LOVE VENOM?..BUT HONESTLLY YOU GOTTA LET THE GUY MOVE AND CREATE AT HIS OWN ACCORD AND PATH BECAUSE THATS WHAT WORKS, YOU MUFFLE HIM BY IMPOSING CHARACTERS ON HIM IT JUST DOESNT SIT WELL...THIS ONE I HAVE A FEELING WILL BE GOOD.
GUNSMITH - 10/14/2009, 5:12 PM
Raimi is going to make a sick spiderman 4 movie!
SHHH - 10/14/2009, 5:17 PM
You don't push or hurry a character like Venom just to cremate him on the big screen.
SHHH - 10/14/2009, 5:20 PM
logan - And here we go again! Let me assure you, there probably isn't anything about comic books/CBMs you know that I don't!

Joel Schumacher made good movies up to the point of the two Batmans he directed! ...And you don't smell studio interference? The director works for the studio who hired him, so they may not have as much freedom as you seem to think! A lot of behind the scenes factors are involved in making these CBMs, as hundreds of millions of dollars are at stake! Take that into consideration before being so ruthlessly judgmental!

Starting a franchise over with a new director without a reboot at this point could cause more harm than good, so we've got to be careful here! SpM 3 had the feel of a movie aimed at youngsters to sell merchandise! This leads me to believe that Raimi's artistic voice had been compromised by outside interference, as the first two pictures distinctly lacked this tone!
JonF - 10/14/2009, 5:46 PM
Sam needs to focus on this one NOT SUCKING, not about the future of the franchise.
antz1104 - 10/14/2009, 6:32 PM
And Venom is my favorite spidey villain, next to doc ock. You can imagine how pissed I was. I walked into Spiderman 3 hoping that venom would finally be translated well on screen. I walked out disappointed, to say the least. Raimi wont get any more money out of me. Once a franchise lets me down, I can't confide in it anymore. That's why I don't watch the matrix films, or the pirates of the Caribbean films anymore.

This is what almost always happens with good Film franchises:

1) The first film is perfect. It does not need a sequel.

2) A sequel arrives and we are completely blown away. The film sets itself up for a third movie, which we believe will be the best one yet.

3) The third film comes out either too quickly, or too late. The movie has bad scripting. The major characters are killed off or worse. Fans become disappointed and try to forget about the franchise.

and sometimes, 4) A fourth film is made a long time after the third, in an attempt from the studio, to make you forget about the previous movie's mistakes. The fourth entry tries to ensure you that it's better than the last, but ultimately fails, because after so long, it's lost the feel of the movies that came before it

Hollywood sucks because the studios stand for advertising and special effects, in order to gain money, instead of relying on good stories, good direction, and good acting, to gain quality films. I just hope that a new wave can change these dark times for Hollywood.

supermarioworldE - 10/14/2009, 6:44 PM
There was nothing wrong with the performances in Spider Man 3 anyway, all of the cast did the best with what they had to work with..which was a less than stellar script and some bizarre character beats(emo dance). And as a whole I really don't think the movie sucked either. It had very good parts, and it really was just disappointing after 2 such great movies. I would still give it 3/5 stars.
Rorschach01 - 10/14/2009, 6:46 PM
The performances (save for a couple) were bad in SM 3. Tobey was really bad, Dunst was horrendous, and I can not stress that one enough, Harry was goofy and boring, I didn't care much for Sandman, though that may be attributed to my dislike of the character in the first place, not to Church himself.

The only good performances IMO were Topher Grace and JK Simmons.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/14/2009, 6:57 PM
ugh just get someone else to take on spider-man he should just stick to his b movie roots
BossWalsh - 10/14/2009, 7:03 PM
i really hope this one will be good!! and i hope the lizard is the villain. lets not get crazy about the possibility of a 5th until we see how this one is!
CorndogBurglar - 10/14/2009, 7:54 PM
TYLER: Man, you will not be disappointed! Its freaking amazing! Not only is Uncharted 2 the most realistic and stunning game I've ever played but the story and gameplay are top notch! 10/10 and Im only 33% in! :)
joshw24 - 10/14/2009, 8:10 PM
Spidey 3 didn't suck there was a lot of crying but no spider-man movie sucked they were all great
MrAnonymous - 10/14/2009, 8:51 PM
Yeah, the Emo Peter, street dancing, singing MJ, omelet baking Saturday Night Fever sketch, amnesiac Harry, and the 10 minutes of Venom didn't suck at all...
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/14/2009, 9:07 PM
DUDE ENOUGH WITH THE DBZ RAGING BLAST!!!!

Anyway, as long as we dont have another dumbass thing like a 5 minute Venom happen again we'll be fine
Fartman - 10/14/2009, 9:37 PM
Tyler, you left out the "new Goblin" lol
DarthMulder - 10/14/2009, 9:38 PM
does raimi sound like a creepy pedophile to anyone else?
BuckyB7588 - 10/14/2009, 9:54 PM
referred tO as "THE BLACK KNIGHT" LOL
dellamorte1872 - 10/14/2009, 9:55 PM
Don't call it Spiderman 4, call it The Amazing Spiderman or The Spectacular Spiderman or something other than Spiderman 4, and Raimi can try to pretend the 3rd one never happend. A fresh story without flashbacks of Uncle Ben and chasin Mary Jane around, and No More Crying!
SHHH - 10/14/2009, 10:00 PM
JonF - I think we're about to 'agree-to-disagree' again. True, Schumacher DID make some good movies up until the 'Batman' fiascos (yes, I count ALL of his as 'TERRIBLE'!). True, the studios DO have a lot influence on how the movie should be made, BUT... the director's JOB is to oversee the look and feel of the film. The director's 'VISION' of how the movie is supposed to play out is KEY! Do you REALLY believe the Bat-nipple fetish suit was the studio's idea? Do you really think WB pushed for the gratuitous Bat-@ss shots? Did the producers really wanted to turn a successful franchise started by Burton into a big screen version of Adam West's Batman? Sure, the "Holy rusted metal, Batman!" comment was cute (for those old enough to get it), but the plots, pace and look were something right out of a carnival on acid! What studio in their right mind would push that?! IF Schumacher was being pressured by the suits and didn't like what the studios were pushing on him, why didn't he WALK AWAY? Yeah, yeah, I know - 'CONTRACTS', but may I remind you that contracts can be broken (people in Hollywood do it ALL THE TIME!).

I admit, your comic book knoweldge is outstanding (as I said in the other thread, it's a pleasure to converse with a fellow devotee), but as far as the film industry goes, I think I've got you beat on this one. I was in the industry. I've seen how it works from the inside (and believe me, it ain't pretty!).
loganoneil - 10/14/2009, 10:19 PM
yeah you can get OUT of a contract but at your own peril...you'll get sued, owe someone money, or both. FALLING DOWN...IS THE ONLY MOVIE OF SCHUMACHERS I LOVE
dellamorte1872 - 10/14/2009, 11:18 PM
4 will make money...RAIMI will make it "dark" with THE LIZARD and KRAVEN THE HUNTER like the STUDIO WANTS....ITS EASY TO PICTURE ALOT OF ACTION IN DIMLY LIT SEWERS. RAIMI CAN DO IT!
dellamorte1872 - 10/14/2009, 11:22 PM
4 will be good I think (I'm being optimistic) because after the studios see the different reactions to the movies 1 & 2 being all Raimi and being marked as some of the best superhero movies of all time and then theres 3 which thr studios and producers felt they needed to get in and that was lumoped in the worst of category, they'll stay outta the next one I think. However Raimi cant tell a Spider-Man story it seems, he can tell a Peter Parker story but who wants that? It was fine for the first movie cuz he was still growing into his role as Spider-Man but it got worse in the 2nd movie and just ridiculous in the 3rd movie, hopefully Spidey gets more screen time, lets see Spidey do some investigating work like he does in the comics. Track down people, interrogate them. Give spidey a sense of humour and kick the emotional crap.

Tyler@ did you say Topher Grace gave a good performance!!!!!!!..lmao :P
teabag - 10/15/2009, 4:23 AM
teabag: Yes, I thought he did. He was entertaining, and kept me actually from walking out of the theater. True, his Eddie was far different from the comics, but I still thought Grace did the best with what he had, and made the character interesting, for me at least.

DarthMulder: Oh yes, can't forget Extreme Snowboarder Goblin!
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/15/2009, 4:33 AM
lol, he wasn't a cry baby, he cried at totally understandable things. you wouldn't cry if your father figure died? or your best friend?? and all the spidey/MJ drama wasn't just in the 3rd movie, it was in ALL 3 movies. everyone says spidey 2 is one of the best CBM's but there was just as much spidey/MJ drama in that as there was in the third.
CorndogBurglar - 10/15/2009, 5:25 AM
Sam Raimi is a brilliantly talented and phenomenal director. He, along with Tobey Maguire (my personal Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Tiger) and Kirsten Dunst (my personal Mary Jane "M.J." Watson), will absolutely and positively continue the super sexy Spider-Man franchise. By the time Spider-Man 4, Spider-Man 5, Spider-Man 6, and more super sexy Spider-Man movies arrive, I will hopefully be completely recovered from getting the lipoma from my back removed, as well as getting a full-time job as either a Medical Biller or a Medical Office Receptionist, and making the best pancakes and Strawberry-Banana protein shakes in the world.
Louise Smith - 10/15/2009, 5:45 AM
lol why is your username Louise Smith? is that your real name
Fartman - 10/15/2009, 6:32 AM
Louise, good luck and hope the procedure goes well.

Spider-Man III had its moments, but overall was pretty disappointing. I liked the Sandman story arc, and definitely think that could have been a stand-alone film.

However, What was terrible was the Venom part being tossed away so easily. That alone deserved an entire film of its own, so we would be looking at Spider-Man IV: The Wrath of Venom or something instead of a sewer crawl for Lizard with Kraven hunting the both of them.

I do think that is the way the next movie will turn out, and with a little bit of luck, we will have Spidy wise-cracking about people flushing pet alligators down the toilet or something similar.

The Saturday Night Fever and the moaning over Mary Jane Watson (played by a VERY unattractive and VERY vapid, talentless hack actress, can't remember her name right now) garbage was just too much to take in Spidey III. Maybe had Mary Jane actually been beautiful, that part would not have been so difficult to digest. And, this constant need to turn MJW into a carping, nagging, jealous snot in the middle of a petulant frenzy needs to consider itself slaked, and remove itself from the Spidey films.

Honestly, I would be VERY happy with a return of Venom ONLY in Spider-Man IV, then Kraven and the Lizard for V, and finally, the Sinister Six all together for VI.

...but Louise, I REALLY have to ask:

"Super-sexy Spiderman franchise"?

Can't be because of THOSE actors! Bet the only wet spot McGuire engendered was from spilling a latte on some girl's lap at Starbucks, and as for that Kirsten Dunce or whatever her name is, I have just one appropriate descriptor:

FLACCID.

Heck, I even found the girl who played Gwen Stacey, while very pretty, pretty darned shallow as an actress.

So what makes the Spider-Man franchise "super-sexy"? 'Cause this True beliver just don't get it!

'Nuff Said!
bropous - 10/15/2009, 6:56 AM
Yeah, I'm looking forward to all the spidey-movies... I only hope I can see them before I die off old age or get senile.......2,3,4,5 years between each follow-up is a little bit too much......than you will have no choice than to delete toby maguire...... or you have to believe that a grandpa spidey swings the webs....

keep the quality, and speed up the making, please...!!!!
phenomenon - 10/15/2009, 7:14 AM
god no more spider-man movies i think 3 is enough
Marvel Rules - 10/15/2009, 7:38 AM
This franchise is far from being ruined. And the same for x-men.. Whatever they'll do... For the "rest of the world" it's only entertainment. Obviously i would see a CBM more faithfull as possible to the comics. But don't worry guys. No risk to stop with returns like these :
from cbm top ten
1)TDK : 1.000.000.000 $
2)SM3 : 890.000.000 $
3)SM : 821.000.000 $
4)SM2: 783.000.000 $
7) X3 : 459.000.000 $
9)X2 : 407.000.000 $
And SM3 is in position #12 in the world chart of all time

Sam Raimi piss off VENOM character.
OSCURO - 10/15/2009, 1:28 PM
logan - After I got to work today, I thought about it and I had to laugh at your original post! You say that movie making is a business! Okay. So what's your point? SpM3 made more than either of the first two films, so you've neutralized your own arguement! You're contradicticting yourself! If Raimi had the clout to change things, then why would he have used Venom at all?! The studio saw $$, that's why!

Mercenary - Raimi didn't bother building Venom up properly because he had no intention of making a whole film with him as the villain! LEEE is right! SONY owns the film rights to Spidey, not Raimi! Who do you think won that dispute?!?

Back to logan - Have you ever eaten a meal cooked by six different chefs? I think that's the point SHHH was trying to make! Once Raimi let anyone get in his ear, it tainted his original vision! So yes the blame is at his feet at least partially for allowing himself to be swayed when his instincts told him otherwise! I don't think we'll see that happen again!

Peter being "emo" looks to me like Raimi trying to convey Pete's growth as a character. When he cries, he's supposed to be working through an emotional trauma! Pete's down on his luck all the time and has no parents to fall back on, so Raimi was trying to show the pressure Pete's under as well as the powerful disappoinment he feels toward his life, himself and the situations he's been put in! The crying didn't bother me at all! It's not like he was bawling through the whole movie in any of the three installments! These were relatively brief scenes!

And I thought we were talking about Spidey 3, 4 and 5 here? I'm not defending Batman Forever or Batman and Robin, but Batman Returns was a piece of crap also! It had some good points, but Burton COMPLETELY screwed up the Penguin!! And the cats reviving Catwoman? What comics had Burton been reading?!

After Batman Returns, I wasn't too shocked to see the direction of the next two! While B+R's numerous transgressions were nearly unforgivable, I've really come to terms with the fact that A) we as comic book fans hold these films to OUR standards, rather than judging it by the level of entertainment value that it brings to the non-comic book reading movie fan and B) the respective studio doesn't necessarily care what WE think so long as they hold the rights to the property, it keeps making money and they see the potential to exploit it to its maximum potential! And how exactly is the Batman franchise dead? Last I checked it's doing better than ever! Comic books change creative teams all the time, but when it's done in Hollywood, it's some kind of big deal!!

We aren't opponents on this, so I wonder why you always seem to think that I disagree with you when I really think you're just overzealous! Seems like your looking for a fight on some issues! Oh, and if you steal my catch phrases("Preach, brother"?), you could at least give a copyright credit! ;-)

P.S. I follow the movie industry pretty closely and own SCORES of industry magazines as well, so I challenge you on that too! Excelsior! Or rather "Shazam!" ;-)
JonF - 10/15/2009, 2:39 PM
Mercenary - Raimi was the DIRECTOR, not the writer! Now you're just casting stones! What responsibility did the screenwriters shoulder if not to "find a better way to make it work"? Raimi directed from the script he was given! THAT was his job! To have as much control as you seem to think he had, he would have to have been an executive producer! Wanna know who was? AVI ARAD!!! Case closed! Good night! Turn off the lights on your way out!!

joshw24 - Your comments on the Sandman have finally convinced me that when it comes to Spidey, you're a wannabe!! I read the Sandman's first appearance in ASpM #4 when I was four years old!! He's a classic! He can lift 85 tons!! And he's waaay out of Spidey's league! This guy is dangerous and EXACTLY the type of challenge that Peter needed to face next in order to grow as a character! While that wasn't totally achieved in the mess that was SpM3, a valiant attempt was made!

What's the big deal about Venom? Not only is he totally derivative, but he's only ever been done properly when McFarlane handled him! He isn't deserving of being featured as a sole antagonist on film, namely because he was a fad whose appeal faded quickly! Spidey movie villain rule #1: If Ditko didn't create him...then he don't belong!

Hope you don't get carded buying that beer! Here in the states, legal drinking age is 21!

SUPASEGO - Thank you! Saved me the time typing!

SHHH - We're on the same wavelength! excellent!

Ryden and CorndogBurglar - Good to see that some people KNOW what they're talking about!
