"Spawn" Returns To Our Screens In Animated Form

Todd McFarlane has confirmed that we will be seeing the animated return of the demonic fan favorite in 2010.
Remember the "Spawn" animated series on HBO? Well, if you don't or have never seen it, get thee to thy DVD store. It was nothing short of fantastic. It featured the unmistakable voice talent of Keith David and ran for three seasons before being canceled in 1999.

Now Spawn creator Todd McFarlane is planning on a toon resurgence foe the crispy faced anti-hero...

"For those that've asked, the SPAWN ANIMATED show will be back in Hollywood's face in 2010," McFarlane posted on Twitter. "Legal issues delayed it [the] past few years."

McFarlane also has his eyes on a "Wizard Of Oz" rem..seq..., oh here we go. He's making an OZ movie! As well as a possible live action outing for Spawn, albeit a very different take on the character. Let's hope he has time to be hands on with the new cartoon to ensure it's as faithful to the comics as the last incarnation.

Thanks to MTV for the news.

antz1104 - 8/28/2009, 4:38 PM
that animated series is what got me into spawn.
LukeStar - 8/28/2009, 4:39 PM
spawn, in my perspective, looks like a mean ass deadpool
Punish88r - 8/28/2009, 4:41 PM
That's great news! I just bought the series on DVD last month and I loved it. The Spawn story is too deep to try and cover in a single movie, an HBO series is the way to go! I think the same would work for the Punisher: War Journal story line.
MultiPurposePoni - 8/28/2009, 4:42 PM
never seen the cartoons
flames809 - 8/28/2009, 4:46 PM
@ flames809
U have to see them!

The Hbo spawn series is the best ever.
SHHH - 8/28/2009, 4:53 PM
the old HBO cartoon was TITS!!!! this is awesome news!

it always upset me that it was cancelled after season 3, they just introduced angela, and he never got a chance to fight her, i was bummed about that. i still have the dvds!
CorndogBurglar - 8/28/2009, 4:55 PM
Nice

They need to just pick it up where they left off, but I'm sure in this reboot happy world we live in that's just too much to ask.

I'd settle for something juicy, with Keith David attached of course.

Best news of the day! The HBO series raised the bar for animated super hero series. The violence was off the chain nad well justified. I cannot wait for Keith David to breathe life into our beloved burnt bad ass! SEE YOU AT WANDAS!

Guys ...before we get too excited ... remember McFarlane talks out his a** sometimes. Until we hear this from an actual animation studio or network I won't believe it.
TheGuillotine - 8/28/2009, 5:11 PM
friggin' sweet.
LexLuthor - 8/28/2009, 5:12 PM
spawn has so much potential...all comicbookmovies today are going dark and thats an element that spawn already has cause of it mythology and what not...everyone wants comics nowadays to be dark but thats not how they were before but spawn is already a dark character...I HOPE THEY HIM SOME JUSTICE THIS TIME AROND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
bestofdabest899 - 8/28/2009, 5:14 PM
Spawn is one of the most original characters i can remember. Powers and design and the natural visual evolutions without some big reason why he would change or grow was inspiring.
shibazz - 8/28/2009, 5:23 PM
yes anythin spawn is sick even the old movie it was alright for its time but ill definitely be checkin this out spawn was the first comic i ever read

Rorschach01 - 8/28/2009, 6:22 PM
I hope the new show is as great as the HBO series, that was f**king Spawn, I expected so much more from that damn movie they did, what a let down that was!
ASSASSIN666 - 8/28/2009, 6:36 PM
Even with his "new" idea to portray the character as a background figure and creating a noir detective theme with Sam and Twitch... I still would love to watch.
It's that friggin' sweet.
LexLuthor - 8/28/2009, 7:05 PM
the HBO toon was awesome back in the day, and it would be cool to see it continue but I don't want it to start from the begining again.

As for Todd's new spawn movie he can shove it, I don't want to see a Spawn movie where Spawn isn't even in it till the end, now if he calls it Sam and Twitch that is a different story.

Spawn comics did have issues where Spawn was only seen skulking in the shadows but those were only for one issue at a time, not a series of em, a whole movie about Spawn in the background just wont fly with Spawn fans.
Osiris - 8/28/2009, 7:24 PM
Is everyone enjoying thier trip back to the mid 90's? Sorry folks but spawn peeked along time ago and it ain't never peekin again.
superdog - 8/28/2009, 7:34 PM
I have the Spawn ultimate series that came out a while back..thinking about upgrading it to BLURAY.... this s great news.

@ Punish88r

I see why you would say that...though spawn came out a year after deadpool's appearance (1992).... I always saw spawn as this DOOMED mixture of Batman, deadpool, and freddy kruger lol.
Aiiwolf - 8/28/2009, 9:31 PM
@SuperDoo- G . the same could have been said for SuperMan or BAtGirl. Trust the Rotation
shibazz - 8/29/2009, 1:12 AM
Trust Carl Weathers!
shibazz - 8/29/2009, 1:13 AM
Cool IF this is a tv series but BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO if this is replacing the SPAWN lIVE aCTION MOVIE!!!!

oWWWW my head friggin; hurts!
LEEE777 - 8/29/2009, 4:27 AM
Carl weathers peeked in the late 80's and he ain't never peekin again. Spawn was a flash in the pan fad comic. It was the converse of comics. The "cool" comic for the people who wanted to be anti establishment. And like everything else the fad faded away. Superman is not a fad he has been cisistently popular since hisncreation 60 years ago He has highs and lows but is consistently pop culture. Spawn came and went. Doesn't mean he's not cool. Just means that he's over.
superdog - 8/29/2009, 9:45 AM
He did some unusual OZ action figures that were really twisted, might be the inspiration for the oz movie.
wards - 8/29/2009, 11:11 AM
Why does it always seem like Todd Mcfarlane is embroiled in some kind of legal battles? What a f*ckin' douche! Give me Savage Dragon any day.
MatchesMalone - 8/29/2009, 11:55 AM
The HBO series was awesome!! Todd should make another live action film, the first one was cool but he could do a lot better. He could team up with Frank Miller and they could write it. Finally got a chance to see Punisher War Zone..what a kick ass movie. It was about time Punisher was portrayed how he should be. Lets get a sequel to that! Ray Stevens did a great job.
ATOMbomb - 8/29/2009, 4:43 PM
Cool.
Bandrews1 - 8/29/2009, 6:41 PM
Honestly I have not read any Spawn books since the mid-nineties. Loved the animated series though! I'd give this movie a chance for sure.

Off topic has anyone heard anything on that Black Panther animated series supposed to air on BET? I'd love to see that.
longbowhunter - 8/29/2009, 9:33 PM
I'm looking foward to Black Panther as well, it's been quiet, too quiet. I ddon't mind saying that I too liked the last Punisher movie just because of the violence factor and Ray Stevens. I'd love to see Punisher with a better written story and a cameo from Mr Jackman, now that would be a f**king movie
ASSASSIN666 - 8/29/2009, 9:58 PM
Its about time! I just asked about this in another topic about another live action movie. Guess now i have my answer. Kind of sux that theyll start over rather than a continuation. I would have liked to see the rest unfold. But we cant everything we wont i suppose.
ComicKnight - 8/29/2009, 11:29 PM

Can't wait till this comes out, I got the complete series, set my kids down to watch, and totally forgot how great, but not kid friendly, it was. I just pointed and laughed at my kids when they cried at the scary parts. LOL last was a joke of course.
