MARVEL STUDIOS: Predicting Everything That May (Or May Not) Be Announced At Tomorrow Night's Panel

Tomorrow night, Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios take center stage in Hall H to unveil the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with tons of new information about their upcoming film and tv slates...

With nine Untitled Marvel movies on Disney's upcoming release calendar, it wouldn't be a stretch to assume that Marvel Studios will announce a good chunk of them during their hotly awaited San Diego Comic-Con presentation tomorrow night (unless, of course, they hold back a full slate reveal until the D23 Expo next month).

Currently, Marvel Studios has already booked the following dates:

May 1, 2020
November 6, 2020
February 12, 2021
May 7, 2021
November 5, 2021
February 18, 2022
May 6, 2022
July 29, 2022

There's also one more Marvel film on Disney's calendar, but it's without a finalized date for the time being.

With this being Marvel's most mysterious slate in years, we've taken the time to compile a fairly extensive list of everything the studio may announce tomorrow evening.

Black Widow

Considering Black Widow is already filming, this movie's official announcement is about as close to a sure thing as we'll ever get from Marvel. However, whether or not footage, concept art or a full-length trailer will be released outside of Hall H remains to be seen.

Scarlett Johansson, who delivered arguably the most heartbreaking line in Avengers: Endgame, will undoubtedly be present to showcase her long overdue solo film along with some of her cast mates, who include Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Rachel Weisz, O.T. Fagbenle and Ray Winstone.

Eternals

With Chloé Zhao already locked in as director and a growing star cast that's already added Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Ma Dong-seok and Salma Hayek, Marvel's Eternals is also likely to feature prominently during the presentation.

A full cast reveal and concept art should be expected.

Shang-Chi

Shang-Chi might be a little further out than the previous two, but with Destin Daniel Cretton already attached as director, there is a possibility Marvel Studios will use this grand stage to officially announce the film and reveal their leading man, who has been rumored to be a newcomer.

Attendees may also get a sneak peek at some early concept art, but we shouldn't expect much more than that.

Doctor Strange 2

Things have been relatively quiet on the Sorcerer Supreme front for a while now, but with Scott Derrickson locked in to return and rumors pointing to a 2019 production start date as well as Strange's popularity being at an all-time high after his Avengers exploits, it's highly likely Feige will take the stage to formally announce Doctor Strange 2.

Black Panther 2

Black Panther is Marvel Studios' highest grossing non-Avengers film ever, so this seems like the perfect time to announce a sequel, which will almost definitely grab the February date in either 2021 or 2022.

Ryan Coogler has been confirmed to write and direct, so there's a chance he attends and possibly shares some details on the film's villain. Also, don't be surprised if he brings Chadwick Boseman with him.

Captain Marvel 2

While it may not have been one of Marvel Studios' better offerings, Captain Marvel still managed to skyrocket to a billion-dollar haul, and after Endgame, Carol Danvers is undoubtedly one of the faces of the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so there's a good chance we see Brie Larson make an appearance to announce a sequel.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 faced an unfortunate delay last summer, but it appears to be back on track now with James Gunn back in the director's chair. However, we're going to have to wait for him to complete Warner Bros.' The Suicide Squad before he'll be able to revisit his Guardians story.

A release date confirmation and maybe some cast appearances seem likely, although it may be a while before we get word on the film's villain and introduction of Adam Warlock.

Thor 4

Following an incredible run through Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, the God of Thunder is at the absolute peak of his powers and with Taika Waititi back on board, it seems we're once again on the verge of getting another incredible Thor adventure, which should be made official during this presentation.

While an announcement irself will be plenty exciting, if Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson and/or Taika Waititi show up, then that should tear the absolute roof off Hall H.

Marvel's X-Men

No matter how much they dance around the question, the X-Men are coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and hopefully it's going to be a lot sooner than anyone might expect. While it's hard to imagine anything more than just an announcement for the reboot, there is always a possibility they reveal plans to introduce X-characters in other MCU films.

Also, with The New Mutants still on the release calendar, there is a small chance Feige may speak on the status of that film, or simply choose to stay quiet and let Walt Disney Studios handle its release.

It's still way too early to think about cast members, but it'd be a big surprise if any of the X-Men actors from the Fox series were brought back after Dark Phoenix. It's doubtful many fans would be particularly upset if Marvel Studios decided to bring back just Hugh Jackman - which is, of course, highly unlikely - but if it did happen, it would be a move that would shock the entire universe.

Marvel's Fantastic Four

In addition to the X-Men, fans are hoping for an update regarding a new Fantastic Four movie, or even just something on their introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe since it could always happen in another film before leading into their own solo adventure.

Deadpool 3 (or X-Force?)

Based on what we know, Disney has no intention to move forward with Fox's version of the X-Men or Fantastic Four, but Disney CEO Bob Iger has made it very clear the studio has plans to keep the Deadpool franchise going, which is certainly welcome news for everyone.

Whether or not Marvel Studios will have a part to play when Deadpool 3 does get rolling remains to be seen, but it would certainly be a cool reveal to bring out Ryan Reynolds and announce a new film or maybe even confirm plans for the long-rumored X-Force.

Ant-Man 3 (Ant-Man, The Wasp & Stature?)

After introducing a grown-up Cassie Lang (Emma Fuhrmann) in Avengers: Endgame, it seems Marvel Studios may have already set the stage for an Ant-Man and the Wasp sequel, which could hypothetically see the introduction of Stature.

The is one of the bigger unknowns, as neither of the previous Ant-Man films were particularly big blockbusters at the box office - although after Endgame, there could be a renewed interest in seeing what kind of trouble Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) get into next.

Marvel's Spider-Man 3

After that bombshell of a mid-credits scene, the Spider-Man: Far From Home sequel has to have shot up the ranks of most anticipated superhero films ever. However, it seems highly unlikely that the sequel is announced here unless Sony gave Marvel permission to do so.

If a sequel isn't announced, then we may still get word on when we may see Spidey next, which is hopefully a lot sooner than later.

Falcon and the Winter Soldier (Disney+)

While Marvel Studios will likely keep the focus of their presentation on their film slate, Feige and company are also expected to drop information about a few of their upcoming Disney+ series, the first of which is Falcon and the Winter Soldier starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan.

The series hasn't started filming yet, so don't expect to see any footage, but there may be a cast reveal and/or maybe details on the premiere date.

WandaVision (Disney+)

As far as we know, Vision (Paul Bettany) is dead, but with this series confirmed, it's probably safe to assume that the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) may have found a way to bring him back without an Infinity Stone - although that still doesn't explain the show's rumored period setting.

More details are to be expected during the presentation.

Loki (Disney+)

Loki may be the furthest along of the Marvel Disney+ series, so if we don't find out much about the other shows, we should at least get a decent update about this series, which will star Tom Hiddleston as the God of Mischief.

Hawkeye (Disney+)

This series hasn't been formally announced by Disney+ yet, so it's still up in the air whether or not it'll actually happen - but Avengers: Endgame did essentially set the stage for Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) to pass the torch to his daughter (Ava Russo) or to Kate Bishop.

Also, despite a possible series, let's not count him out for any future Avengers films.

Marvel's What If...? (Disney+)

Marvel's What If...? animated series will probably only get a small mention, if anything at all, during the panel. The best we can hope for is maybe some concept art of Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) as Captain America or maybe a tease of one of the other episodes.

A-Force

There's been rumblings about this one from cast members, but nothing concrete from the studio. However, after the warm reception to the Women of Marvel moment in Avengers: Endgame, there is always a chance Feige and company could explore the dynamic more by announcing an A-Force movie instead of a true Avengers sequel, which would be a bold, but interesting move.

Captain America 4

We followed him to the end of the line... but could there be more story to tell?

Captain America (Chris Evans) received arguably Avengers: Endgame's most picture perfect ending and while he absolutely deserves to enjoy his life with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), the Endgame ending did leave the door open for a potential return appearance down the line and also created endless possibilities about where he could go next.

A movie set in the past would be a cool idea and could also possibly be used as a means to introduce Wolverine, who, as we know, does have a history with Cap in the comics.

Avengers 5

Avengers vs. X-Men.
Avengers: Secret Wars.
Avengers: Annihilation.
Avengers: The Korvac Saga.
The New Avengers.
Avengers: Secret Invasion
Avengers: Kang Dynasty
Avengers: Under Siege

The possibilities are endless, and it's hard to imagine a scenario where Kevin Feige hasn't considered them all - although it doesn't seem likely that Marvel will go ahead and unveil their next Avengers film here. Still, we should all expect at least one big surprise before the night is over, so why can't it be the next Avengers?

I have a feeling they're only going to announce films through 2021. Feige has gone on record saying he regretted revealing the entirety of phase 3 back in 2014.

@BiggerLuke - I think that's probably right. Just whatever he needs to officially announce so that websites will have official banners and logos for movies as they're being cast and filmed for the next year or two. And most of them are not going to be big surprises (Panther, Cpt. Marvel, Strange sequels most likely). And also start the Eternals and Shang-Chi hype train in earnest, with cast reveals and such.

There's a good chance a lot of this will be something of a victory lap, maybe with the G1 Avengers doing a curtain call of some kind (maybe just prerecorded). That may make up a lot of the meat of the presentation.

But I do think they will want something to wow people that no one sees coming. And something that cashes in on the Fox merger and will have a relatively quick effect in the MCU proper. Maybe that's a Fantastic Four or X-film being officially put on a calendar, or maybe it's a notable headliner like Wolverine being injected into a quickly upcoming film in some way. I don't think it will be Ryan-Reynolds-Deadpool-related, but it might be.

I'm sure some will be disappointed, and reasonably so, but there will be some nuggets worth the effort. And we'll probably get some great photos of and a feel for the Eternals cast and how their dynamic works.

@BiggerLuke - Every once in a while I’ll go back and watch that 2014 presentation. It was something special. But yeah, things changed. Marvel didn’t have Spider-man, and Ike Perlmutter hadn’t ruined Inhumans yet.

It was super ballsy to get up on stage and announce five years worth of release dates, reveal Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel, and end it all with Chadwick Boseman playing Rock Paper Scissors with RDJ and Chris Evans. I don’t know how they’ll ever top that event.

@BiggerLuke - They don't want another Inhumans mistake. Not to mention that Ant-Man 3 may or may not be on the list now and that may have shifted some plans.

Another thing to consider is at some point Marvel will want to do a new X-Men and new Fantastic 4 and those properties will have to be slotted it. At some point it will all be sequels and Feige mentioned he doesn't want a year to be filled with only sequels which is why Captain Marvel was released in 2019 to be a new property.

I would be shocked if they announced a new Avengers movie tomorrow. I’m still processing Endgame and Far From Home. They’ll definitely announce standalone films, tease future team-ups, and maybe hint at some new Thanos-level big bad for Phase 4. But I think it’s too soon for Marvel to announce Avengers 5. Maybe next year.

It would be a shame if they didn’t do a third Ant-man movie. They gave him such a huge spotlight in Endgame and set up Stature to have a fun role. And I would really love to see Ant-man and the Wasp have a finely tuned team from the get-go in a movie.

@TheUnworthyThor - (Despite the ambivalence many people around here hold him in) I do really like Reed's little corner of the MCU. It's relatively low-drama and fun in a way that is a nice contrast to the Russos' side. Ant-Man & the Wasp & the West Coast Avengers would be my ideal way to round out that trilogy. Scott and Hope, with a couple of "lesser" Avengers like Rhodey building a friendlier gentler alternative to the Sokovia / Raft system with the Big House (run by Pym and the Wombats). Use it as an opportunity explore the aftermath of the Snap/Blip, keep probing the Quantum Realm, and establishing a group of semi-dangerous supercriminals to fill out the ranks of Ross' Thunderbolts for a future film.

It's a lot of moving pieces and kind of a gumbo filler movie in my head (which a lot of people hate), but keeping the budget under control while still doing some mid-level MCU shenanigans is worth the effort, I think.
