Fans Sway Snyder into Considering Routh for Superman Reboot

Fans Sway Snyder into Considering Routh for Superman Reboot

This is from a British newspaper, which all but the London Times are just like American tabloids, but take it for what it's worth. Our thanks go to "Maverick" from fortressofsolitude.proboards.com for the tip.

In case you're having trouble reading the pic. The sum of it is...

Superman director Zack Snyder may recast Brandon Routh as the Man of Steel afer being impressed by fans...

Originally WB demanded an all-new cast after they were underwhelmed by Superman Returns' weak box office take.

But Zack revealed that Brandon WILL be considered for the role after he saw an online fan campaign (maybe on CBM?) to have the star reinstated.

"I know!" he told the News of the World. "I didn't realise there would be such a groundswell."

I'm totally cool with this...I thought he played a great Superman, and it was Singer who told him to be so emotionless...hopefully he'll be able to let loose in the next one if he gets the part
Shaman - 10/18/2010, 8:14 AM
HAHAHAHA!!!!! ROUTHBOOT FTW!!! But this is completely fake :P
marvel72 - 10/18/2010, 8:15 AM
give routh another chance,f*ck welling.

let the routh vs welling fans begin their war of words.
Denn1s - 10/18/2010, 8:17 AM
YEAHHHH!!!!I LOVE ROUTHY !!!! he was the best part in returns. he nailed clark and was a great but underwritten supes
StrangerX - 10/18/2010, 8:17 AM
I like Routh
JYCowboy - 10/18/2010, 8:18 AM
What online fan campaign? I have not seen any such thing. If there was it would be reported and systematically ridiculed here.
Triptheorist - 10/18/2010, 8:23 AM
Of course he'll consider him. It's the polite thing to do, not to mention it might give a Snyder little bump with the fans. In the end though, I highly doubt he'll recast Routh.
SHHH - 10/18/2010, 8:23 AM
Why Not?
HulkPool - 10/18/2010, 8:24 AM
It don't matter Snyder is great and i trust his pick no matter who it is including welling b/c he dosent have much to work with in the scripts on smallville
comicbookjerk - 10/18/2010, 8:27 AM
Crap I wrote this Earlyier and then Deleted it after i posted it lol Im such a dummy
Nerdman3000 - 10/18/2010, 8:27 AM
Personally I'm okay with either Routh or Welling, both have done a decent job potraying the Character. But the truth is niether of them will be as good as Chrstopher Reeve.
Shaman - 10/18/2010, 8:28 AM
Yeah HulkPool, i mean if you have Nolan and Snyder sitting in the judges chairs when they audition Routh and actually end up recasting him, we'd be really anal to not let it slide. Same would go for Welling really, come to think of it. And that coming from me is huge since i really [frick]ing hate Superboy Welling. That guy couldn't look his age even with Zeus's beard on!!! But the truth is niether of them will be as good as Dean Cain.
RorMachine - 10/18/2010, 8:30 AM
I'm not so sure this is fake. I'm not saying I think he will get the role in a million years, but there is no reason to think Snyder won't as least CONSIDER him.
vermillion - 10/18/2010, 8:30 AM
Too bad this is just a tabloid. They're about as reliable as those magazines you see saying "Woman gives birth to the devil"

Highly doubt Routh is coming back.

good god don't trust the British news papers they hardly ever have the correct information.
BLADE4040 - 10/18/2010, 8:41 AM
I keep hearing people say Routh's not big enough
the guy is 6'2" or 6'3" and wgts 225lbs
that's plenty big. He's bigger than Bale,
Downey,Keaton,Cain and I can name a few more
who's played heroes in CBM's OR T.V. shows.

Routh needs another crack at it I personally
feel Singer was the problem not Routh. Hopefully
this article has some juice to it and we could
possibly see ROUTH back!!!
screams - 10/18/2010, 8:43 AM
@Ajax - It's funny you would mention DeCaprio as a mediocre actor. His talent has done nothing but grow in his career. I think he's one of the best actors of his generation, if not the best.
fire59019 - 10/18/2010, 8:43 AM
Tom Welling has been plying Clark Kent for almost 10 years he is the only one they should be considering for the role!

welling is gonna be 34 but he still looks like a child lol
YourMomNaked - 10/18/2010, 8:57 AM
I'm pretty sure the article got it wrong. We'll probably see a correction any day! Poll after poll shows Welling crushing Routh. I wouldn't get too excited if I were a Routhbootist.

Shaman - 10/18/2010, 8:57 AM
Ror- Well, i just take this with a grain of salt cause i'd really be surprised that Snyder would go to "News of the World" of all tabloids, to give them this huge scoop. I mean, if he was that startled by the fans voices, it would be concidered huge news for him to publically state that he would actually concider him for the role on account of the fans' support for Routh's return. What makes that brittish tabloid paper worthy of such a huge news? I'd be gitty if it was true cause i did very much enjoy Routh but i'd hate to be dissapointed again after the whole Brad Pitt as He-Man debacle.
LEEE777 - 10/18/2010, 8:59 AM
HELL [frick]ING YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!

ROUTHBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT! ; P

^^^ [frick]ing EPIC Masterpiece! ^^^

WELLING can KI$$ my hairy A$$! : p
Angelus - 10/18/2010, 9:02 AM
Brandon Routh should return but probably not. Malabri or Cavil are good choice but it wont probably be any of them.

BMP!

Other than Nolan being announced as the producer, this is the first bit of good news I've heard about this film (if it's even true. I'd say News of the World is like Wikipedia). If it's true, nice one!
screams - 10/18/2010, 9:12 AM
@Ajax - I agree with you. I just thought it was a funny statement. I know he has definitely come a long ways. Blood Diamond wouldn't have been the same without him, and I heard he only had a month to prepare for that role, it's just amazing.
dahamma - 10/18/2010, 9:12 AM
am i the only one who wants a new actor for the mn of steel?but idk, cuz routh was playing reeve's superman so maybe he really couldn't have his take on supes, but still i want someone new, no routh or wellington for me plz

I'm liking you're style Leeee777!! ;)
AlexDeLarge87 - 10/18/2010, 9:20 AM
Well he is better than Welling! Thats for sure, but i would prefer new blood! Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Daniel Cudmore or maybe Spencer Conway (Thank you Ranger14 for this idea)

If they could make Matt Bomer look little bit taller in the movie he would be perfect!:)

Odette Yustman or Lynn Collins as Lois Lane
Jason Isaacs as Lex Luthor
Paul Bettany, Michael Fassbender or Terence Stamp (With motion capture) as Brainiac
Aaron Johnson as Jimmy Olsen
Jeff Bridges or Bruce Greenwood as Jonathan Kent
Patricia Clarkson as Martha Kent
Tom Hardy as John Corben
Jon Hamm as Jor-El
Carla Gugino as Lara Vor-Van
Mads Mikkelsen as Bruno Mannheim
William Hurt as Dr. Emil Hamilton
And
Tom Berenger or Richard Jenkins as Perry White

Cameos:
Rufus Sewell as Gen. Zod
Kevin Durand as Jax-Ur
Gina Carano as Faora and Matthew Willig as Quex-Ul (Gen. Zod´s Henchmen)

bring routh back!!!!!....hmmmm BRING ROUTH BACK!!!!!!! it just makes sense.
dragonJP - 10/18/2010, 9:26 AM
I had absolutely NO PROBLEM with Brandon Routh as Superman. He was easily the best thing about that movie, and I think that it is extremely important WHO plays Supes in Man of Steel. Unless you are doing JLA and recasting Batman as well as Superman at the same time, it really makes no sense for another Superman. You are risking alienating both the existing audience and the potential new audience that's out there for Superman by casting a new actor for the second time in five years. The only exception to this would be Tom Welling, who has a familiarity with audiences after ten years of Smallville. Marvel found this out with Edward Norton and "The Incredible Hulk," a very good movie that suffered from the confusion of audiences with Eric Hana's "Hulk" just a few years ago. For some reason Marvel is ready to take this risk again with Mark Ruffalo playing the Hulk in the Avengers, but at least he will have RDJ, SLJ, etc. etc. to lean on. You cast a new Superman and he's out there on his own, a very risky proposition for WB and DC... To me, it's either Routh or Welling in the role (Have to admit Bomer is intriguing, but the risk?), the iconic role of Superman, that HAS to be done right this time....
JoshWilding - 10/18/2010, 9:28 AM
This is good news. With a great director like Zack Snyder, Routh would really deliver an amazing performance as Superman instead of that ridiculous impression of Christopher Reeve that Bryan Singer forced him to do. I still think that Welling deserves a shot after his performance in the 200th episode of Smallville though... :P
LP4 - 10/18/2010, 9:31 AM
Quoting "Ajax" a well-known Routh-fan: "I would still doubt that Zac Snyder will hire Routh unless his acting has dramatically improved -- even though I am a Routh Fan I say this because Zac Snyder is not the type of Director - like say Scorcese, Coppola, or Ridley Scott who will take the time out to hire acting coaches for an actor who looks great but needs to work on their acting skills"

So basically even this routh-fan admitted Routh needs work on his acting ability. ROUTH CAN'T [frick]EN ACT PEOPLE!!!!!!!! GET IT THROUGH YOUR [frick]EN HEADS!!!

@Ajax- no offense for quoting you, i just needed to get out some frustration :D
