A closer look at "Defender Strange" in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madneess has been revealed thanks to an upcoming Marvel Legends action figure featuring the hero's startling new MCU look...

Shortly before the first trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was released, Marvel Studios shared a first look at merchandise for the sequel, which included a rather unexpected Marvel Legends action figure from Hasbro revealing a startling new costume for Stephen Strange.

Given the nature of Sam Raimi's sequel, "Defender Strange" could quite easily be a Variant, but we can't help but wonder whether this is, in fact, the Master of the Mystic Arts' updated appearance in the MCU.

It matches up with what we've seen on the page, of course, and it does feel like the right time for Strange's wardrobe to receive an overhaul five years after Benedict Cumberbatch first played the hero. His status quo has changed a lot since returning from the Blip (see Spider-Man: No Way Home for more details), and becoming a Defender could have very exciting consequences.

Phase 4 (and 5) looks set to embrace the supernatural side of the MCU in a big way, so Strange assembling a team to deal with threats to the Multiverse would be epic. The Defenders could potentially even be this world's take on The Illuminati, a group that is rumoured to appear in the Doctor Strange sequel.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be released on May 6.

Me when I first saw this costume design a couple weeks ago: “Ehhh, it doesn’t look too bad.”

Me seeing this new artwork: “Holy shit, look at that pony tail!”

@Superspecialawesomeguy - first thing I noticed, and for some reason looks goofy as shit.

@ElricReturns - I think it's because of the mustache being a bit too long on the sides; trim those slightly and he should be good lol.

@Superspecialawesomeguy - it's probably lighting, but on the toy it looks like a thin pencil mustache that for some reason gets thick in the Hitler mustache area. So it looks like Hitler Strange to me.

SPOILERS Maybe.

What we know about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

1) Not Sorcerer Supreme
2) Time Stone was Destroyed in Endgame like I said. People argued that it was returned
in Endgame by Steve Rogers.

Dr. Strange failed all his duties as Sorcerer Supreme and his causing all his own problems in Spider-Man and now Dr. Strange.

@DoubleD - it was destroyed and returned. MCU time travel works on branch time travel, the timestone of the main mcu timeline was “destroyed”/reduced to atoms when thanos did his second snap on the farm. They got a new one from the ancient one in a parallel 2012 and that’s the one Steve returned
DoubleD
DoubleD - 1/1/2022, 10:03 AM
@ShimmyShimmyYA - The issue is MCU Dr. Strange don't have a Time Stone protecting our reality. What did Strange say to Tony Stark?

"Protecting your Reality, Doucehebag"
ShimmyShimmyYA
ShimmyShimmyYA - 1/1/2022, 10:10 AM
@DoubleD - well yeah he doesn’t and I don’t think they’re gonna bring the stones back for a while but it still technically exists just not in stone form, they’ll do a hand wave and bring it back one day
DoubleD
DoubleD - 1/1/2022, 10:13 AM
@ShimmyShimmyYA - Dr. Strange even told Spider-Man he no longer as the Time Stone to protect our reality, that's why he used a spell instead not the Time Stone.

@DoubleD - I’m not disagreeing with you tho?? Yeah he doesn’t have it that was well established

@ShimmyShimmyYA - I know you were just explaining all this, and I agree with you.

I think a good way of explaining it is this...

The Avengers took the stones from points in the past, before Thanos destroyed them in the present. When Steve returns the stones, it's to points in time in the past, meaning in the present the stones will still be destroyed by Thanos. Hence why Strange says he doesn't have the time stone anymore in No Way Home.

All that got a bit confusing to me too till someone on YouTube explained it to me like that.

They were returned to points in the past, meaning they will always be destroyed in the present.

My question is this.... if the TVA only allowed one timeline to exist, the prime timeline, then the TVA pruned the original MCU timeline when the Avengers stole the infinity stones.

Returning the Infinity Stones to the moment they were taken would have fixed those branches, but not the branch from the timeline of them not using time travel at all and losing to Thanos. They were on a path, and they broke that path by traveling through time. The TVA said it was supposed to happen and deemed their new timeline the main timeline, but they still had to prune the original timeline.

Now I'm confused again...

@ElricReturns - if we’re throwing in TVA my takeaway from that and this is kinda bleak but those timelines were [frick]ed regardless as soon as the avengers changed something either the stone missing would destroy it or the TVA pruned it, but the avengers don’t know that nor does the ancient one they all just think it’s possible to fix it

@DoubleD - the main issue I have is, this film was supposed to come out BEFORE Spider-Man. When everything got delayed, the writers of Spider-Man had to change Dr Strange from “someone who knows about the multiverse to someone who knows nothing about it”. Basically confirming that Loki, Spider-Man and Multiverse have NO direct links to each other and are not actually part of the same “Multiverse” story. Which is hugely disappointing.

My theory is that our Doctor Strange will travel to the Defender Strange universe. "Defender Strange, Valkyrie, Namor and Iron Fist try to prevent the arrival of visitors from other universes. When our Doctor Strange arrives in the Defenders universe, they don't know if this variant is dangerous.

There’s been a lot of talk and rumours of the Illuminati but maybe it’s actually the comic accurate Defenders we are getting?
Corruptor
Corruptor - 1/1/2022, 1:00 PM
@Spike101 - Defenders maybe, comic accurate ones? hahahahahahahaha
Should happen though, now they can use Surfer and Namor, and can use Hulk in a team but not solo. Add Val and Nighthawk, maybe Hellcat later on. The original Defenders would be a great replacement for Avengers rather than some watered down version of Avengers that nobody wants. Would people go to see a film of Doctor Strange, Silver Surfer, Hulk and Namor battling the next big bad? You bet!
One thing in the comics, the team often seemed overpowered for the (albeit interesting) threats they fought, and later team line-ups were less powerful (Angel, Iceman, Moondragon etc).

Looks like someone took Dr Strange photo and morphed it with fat Seagal face and did a horrendous job fixing the flaws in it. If this ends up in the movie it'll be the joke of the year.
