The DC Extended Universe continues to expand, though it's been a while since we've had any solid updates on Ava DuVernay's DC Comics film, The New Gods

The Selma and A Wrinkle in Time director has been co-writing the script alongside Batman and Mister Miracle comic book writer Tom King for some time now. The biggest piece of confirmed information about the project is that it will feature Darkseid, the evil ruler of Apokolips, and the Furies, a group of ferocious female warriors.

Asked by a fan to share an update on The New Gods, DuVernay took to Twitter to say, "This surreal year has given us time to dig in even more. Enjoying going even deeper into the mind and musings of Jack Kirby with [Tom King]."

Recently, it was rumored that American Horror Story star Kathy Bates is being eyed for the role of Granny Goodness, but if the script is still being worked on, it's doubtful that casting has begun yet.

WB should've made this years ago. Every time DC wants to start something they slack and marvel makes it first. Multiverse, new god's, in-cannon TV shows. Step up your game DC

@JustALurker - I don’t want to be THAT guy but DC did do the multiverse first soooooo...

@WruceBayne - But not as a feature.
I mean DC did pretty much everything first, when you think about it.

They should fast-track Flashpoint. We need. Now.

So this is still happening then? Wonder when this will be released. No rush though, since I'm not that hyped for this project

I dont see this being good with kings involvement. His batman was rubbish. Rorschach is lame. Mr miracle was overrated and had the most cliche ending. Why is he hailed as this great writer, i ahve no idea.

@Doomsday8888 - his dialogues are hot GARBAGE. Everyone is communicating using as few words as possible. It gets both sad and hilarious real fast. King probably thinks its some kind of high art form. I almost dropped batman while he was on it. And i always stick with that title.

I like this. We are in no rush, particularly.

And Kirby does go deep.
He was always an artist first, so his writing isn't as accessible as other writers. He doesn't have that flow. But it is big and deep and epic. Lots to get your head and heart around.

So I'm really, really glad they're taking their time to find the story and to know the work.

Good stuff. Excited.

They will release this movie in the same year with that Nightwing movie.

Ergo, two-thousand and never. :3

Ava is a good director (when left alone) but her Wrinkle in Time was very much sub-par, to say it in as nice a way as possible. I just hope she goes back to form with this project if it ever does get made.

@Mugens - I agree; not actively bad, but very mediocre, especially given the potential of the material.

@BestAtWhatIDo - I thought it was just an annoying and bland "Disney-fied" adaptation with the only good thing that stood out to me were the great performances from Storm Reid and Chris Pine.

@demery - Agreed, Pine is always great. Just wasn't much there to get worked up about either way.

Why are we still talking about this "movie"?

Why do I feel like this is going to be an Aquaman repeat where certain people will be on here saying it won't happen even after they start filming?

I hope she never gets to make anything for DC (or Marvel). She can go back to making activist garbage with Oprah for the rest of her life, for all I care.

I want this to be comic book accurate and epic like the comic book.

However I think it's gonna race/gender swapping nonsense just like Eternals.
