Back in 2018, the annual Superman Celebration (held in Metropolis, Illinois) celebrated its 40th anniversary, and one of the main guests invited was actor Brandon Routh, who, before playing Ray Palmer on DC's Legends of Tomorrow, portrayed the Man of Steel in 2006's Superman Returns.

More recently, of course, he reprised the character — to great acclaim — on the CW's Crisis crossover event.

Well, at the time Voices From Krypton had the opportunity to sit down with Brandon for a short interview in which he shared his feelings about the enthusiasm of the crowd, what he feels he achieved as Superman and his belief that the character is now more relevant than ever.

It is crazy to think how WB has no plans on making a Man of Steel 2 movie or any Superman movie in general.

There is so much potential with The Man of Tomorrow and yet WB continues to not see that.

We still haven't seen a comic accurate version of Lex and to think Brainiac hasn't been shown on the big screen is a true crime. Just imagining what Brainiac could do on the big screen is truly something that would be worth seeing.

We saw what could be done with Brainiac on the show Krypton and it is just crazy to know Brainiac hasn't been given his do, in a movie.

Kal-El never went through immigration or filed the official paperwork to be a resident alien
and wait his turn in line for citizenship. That would make him an illegal alien.

Of course, Superman is Caucasian (in appearance) comes from an advanced predominately
white, home of origin like Norway, in the form of planet Krypton, has never used social services,
and had unique skills to offer the country. So he would likely get to stay.

In the comics, during the silver age, this was dealt with by an act of Congress that retroactively
extended American citizenship to Superman due to his service to the country.

In post-crisis relaunch of Superman, this was dealt with by having Superman "technically"
be born on Earth when the gestation chamber in his starcraft opened when he crashed in Kansas.

i had issue with his suit in SR and i had issue with the Story but i thought he played Both characters well and i would buy a ticket to see him as KDC Superman in that WB suit

I've come to appreciate Brandon Routh in the role of Superman, even though Superman Returns was a snoozefest.
Also, Brandon was 26 when he won the role and 10 years too old for Bryan Singer's casting couch.

I always liked his Superman, even Superman Returns as a whole. There's some questionable shit in there for sure, but it never really disrespects the character. The things it gets right, it really gets right.

I'm probably among the few that liked Superman Returns, and everytime I watch it I appreciate it a little more. It suffered mostly because it was stuck between trying to be of two different ages, it tried to be part of the Donner era while also trying to be its own thing. It should have gone for the latter IMHO.

Either ways, with the super-blitz scene, taking a bullet in the eye, and lifting an entire [frick]ing island off the face of the earth, at least Routh will be known for the greatest on-screen Superman flexes of all time.

Plus the movie looked really [frick]ing pretty.

@RageDriver2401 - I loved the basic premise of Superman returning to a world that had apparently moved on and didn't want him anymore and I liked the idea of Lex trying to make that a literal thing by using kryptonite to make Earth uninhabitable to Superman. The stuff with Lois and the kid dragged it down (though the final bit with the kid where he does the "father becomes the son" speech was good). There was definitely potential there.

The plane rescue is kind of brilliant though. There's a moment where he's flying after the plane and one of the wings breaks off and he flies through it. He then takes a moment to make sure that the debris isn't going to fall anywhere dangerous before carrying on. Little details like that were great.

Superman Returns had a long list of flaws. Routh was NOT one of them. He played Supes/CK with a passionate strength of character and a wonderfully convincing sense of innocence not seen since Christopher Reeves.

It`s sad to see how the Superman franchise has fallen back into another state of limbo. Snyder ruined the character so badly that the WB has no choice but to leave Superman sitting on the sidelines for a few years.
