Disney+ has made some more edits to two of the Marvel Netflix shows that were recently added to the streaming service, and these are even harder to explain! Why remove a tribute to a beloved actor?

It came to light last week that two scenes from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier had been censored for violence almost a full year after the episode originally aired, and Disney+ has now made edits to two of the recently added Netflix Marvel shows that are even harder to explain.

The guys over at Bounding Into Comics have noticed that the in memoriam tributes to the late Stan Lee and actor Reg E. Cathey (The Wire, Oz) have been removed from the final season 2 episodes of The Punisher and Luke Cage, respectively.

We have no idea why anyone would deem it necessary or even remotely appropriate to edit out these tributes, but the streamer recently claimed that the censored version of TFATWS episode mentioned above was uploaded "by accident," so perhaps this was also some sort of mistake.

We'll give them the benefit of the doubt until we learn more, but Luke Cage creator Cheo Hodari Coker is understandably upset about the removal of his tribute to the beloved Cathey, who passed away following a battle with cancer in 2018.

Seems stupid to have edited them out. Hopefully it was a mistake.

Well, that’s shitty. Hopefully it’s a mistake and they fix it as soon as possible.

“ but the streamer recently claimed that the censored version of TFATWS episode mentioned above was uploaded "by accident," so perhaps this was also some sort of mistake.”

Not sure why they would have an alternate version of this. And I’m still kind of unsure why Disney wanted to edit an already TV-14 show like Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

@regularmovieguy - Well 1) a slightly censored version might not be in the restricted section & thus more available, and 2) the uncensored version might not be welcome in some foreign markets.

Bounding Into Comics hasn't always been the most objective nor tolerant trade news website but it's puzzling why even these things are happening. Too many accidents will start to look like a pattern soon.

Wtf. No reason why that was done. No reason why falc and bucky was edited. Just stop over censoring shit that don't need to be censored

This is Disney, this has always been Disney, this will always be Disney.
But we know what will happen next, they will put the tribute on again, and say it was "a mistake".

Anyway, this is what you all wanted, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall Marvel related stuff under the Mouse's umbrella

BrandonWon
BrandonWon - 4/4/2022, 6:59 PM
@TheHumanSpider2 - The shows were always Disney even when they were on Netflix, dumbass

So Disney put the tributes there and probably accidentally removed them when integrating them to Plus
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 4/4/2022, 7:37 PM
@TheHumanSpider2 - And you're really making a scene because a tribute was removed? If it was by accident so be it. Not sure if you understand that all of Marvel belongs to Disney right?
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 4/4/2022, 7:38 PM
@BrandonWon: "Sony movies are Disney's, Netflix shows are Disney, DC movies are Disney's, Amazon is Disney's, this site is Disney's, your ass is Disney's, my ass is Disney', this comment is Disney's!"
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 4/4/2022, 7:40 PM
@SonOfAGif - The "Marvel brand", yes, but they dont own or make all the live action/animated adaptations...yet.
They are buying what they cant top, what is worse, they are buying it to destroy it...look at the X-Men or the Netflix shows.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 4/4/2022, 7:41 PM
@SonOfAGif - Also, for a mega multi billion dollar corporation, they sure have a lot of "accidents"!
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 4/4/2022, 7:52 PM
@TheHumanSpider2 - Again. You clearly do not know how rights and ownership works. Disney owns 100% of Marvel properties. The live action rights for Spider-Man are owned by Sony until Sony surrenders the rights or sells them back to Disney. But Sony cannot sell Spider-Man to anyone. Disney owns 100% of all merchandise rights for all Spider-Man products including the Sony movies. And Disney owns the animated rights for TV shows too. Spider-Man still belongs to Disney and Sony is leasing the character and Disney must honor the contract that was put in place prior to the Marvel purpose.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 4/4/2022, 7:58 PM
@SonOfAGif - I'm not denying that.
But those Spiderman movies are made by Sony, not Disney, just like these shows were made by Netflix, not Disney.

I remember James Gunn making an analogy about the X-Men movie a few years ago about how Disney owned the car, but Fox was driving it, or something along those lines (it was years ago).

@TheHumanSpider2 - are you just saying stupid things on purpose now, and not just because you're naturally a dumbass?

the netflix shows were made by abc studios, which is disney

your lack of intelligence or humor is not disney's
BrandonWon
BrandonWon - 4/4/2022, 10:19 PM
@eGGtheGreat - this is not the first time you've made this statement/joke but it is interesting that you've mourned every mcu movie from iron man 2 to the present, and even mourned these netflix shows which were also made by disney

because disney bought marvel at the end of 2009 before the avengers made them the king of hollywood

@eGGtheGreat - "at what cost?"

$4 Billion and the oversight and penny pinching of Ike Perlmutter.

Yea, as it turns out that was actually one of the greatest days in pop culture history!

@TheHumanSpider2 - "But those Spiderman movies are made by Sony, not Disney, just like these shows were made by Netflix, not Disney."

You still trying to get people to believe your bullshit huh? Except now you're including tv shows that were made by Marvel Television ( a literal subsidiary of Disney/Marvel)? Since when did Bob Iger have the power to phase out Netflix exec Ike Perlmutter...oh wait...that's right Ike was in charge of Marvel Entertainment at the time which like I said was/is owned by Disney.

I have to ask, what are you hoping to accomplish by attempting to spread obvious lies among a community that already knows the truth?
BrandonWon
BrandonWon - 4/5/2022, 12:57 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - even by that shitty analogy, netflix didn't drive the car, disney did. abc studios made the netflix marvel shows, and disney just parked their "car" in the netflix lot for all those years. that's the reason disney can legally scrub all of the netflix branding off of the shows

sorry but you're gonna have to give disney, specifically the marvel television division, all of the credit for those shows

and also the recent spiderman movies were made by disney with the money from sony. only the old campy and edgy franchises had sony "driving the car"

BrandonWon

Pretty sure the D+ mods are testing the waters to see what they can edit out without the public realizing. These are just too absurd, if not downright inexcusable this time.
