A third live-action Scooby-Doo movie sadly never saw the light of day, but writer James Gunn (The Suicide Squad) has now revealed what he had planned for the third chapter, and it sounds completely crazy!

James Gunn may be best known for films like Guardians of the Galaxy and the upcoming The Suicide Squad these days, but he also wrote the screenplays for 2002's live-action Scooby-Doo and its 2004 sequel, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. A third film was planned, but never happened, and the fan-favorite filmmaker now explains what it would've entailed!

As you can see in the embedded Tweet below, Gunn has told a fan on social media that the gang was set to visit Scotland where they were set to be tasked with bringing more monsters to justice. As the director puts it, however, "the monsters are actually the victims and Scooby and Shaggy have to come to terms with their own prejudices and narrow belief systems."

That's deep...

Both Scooby-Doo movies have become cult classics (more the first than the second), as their unique storylines and adult-themed innuendos struck a chord with a lot of people. Gunn recently revealed that the first film was nearly R-Rated, and that's a cut we would all like to see! Recently, animated reboot Scoob was delayed indefinitely after originally being planned for a May 15th release.

It turns out, the rubber masks were the masks we were wearing over our own hearts all along.

@BlackBeltJones - I mean, the first two were pretty dumb

@WakandanQueen - at least it was about what we all want to see with these: Scooby and the gang trying to stop men in masks

@BlackBeltJones - But they were real monsters in the first two movies

@MarvelDCAllDay - I meant like the Seth Green character, but yea they were real.

I figure he means like "oh the monsters are just being used as tool of evil by evil men/women" but I just like them solving mysteries, fighting the ghouls, nothing more, nothing less.

The Scooby Doo films were pretty trash anyway. Gunn did very well to forge such a successful career after them

Never desired to see either of the first two back when the trailers first came out and never did. But when I discovered the beauty that is Linda Cardellini, well, Velma suddenly became wildly sexy.

I love the cheesy vibe and sometimes these movies are legit funny here and there. I think James did good understanding it's goofy tone. I will say at least it was live action. Hollywood doesn't really go all in with live action cartoons anymore.
