@Jebediah - I know, right? I wish the MCU was a bit more open to this. I was disappointed by Age of Ultron at various points, but I still wanted to see more of Whedon's vision for the movie. Director's cuts may be one of the fan-friendly benefits of WB/DC's apparently more permissive creator-driven approach, as well as a great brand differentiator.

I really hope this means we're getting a fully Ayer-rated cut of Suicide Squad as well.

@HEAVENORHECK - Just my opinion, but I can't see any reason for the MCU to have an r-rated cut of any of their films. Why can't you be satisfied with their Netflix shows which have more violence and more character development than anything on the big screen? Why do you have to be greedy for violence to the point of being inappropriate to the specific property?

@HEAVENORHECK - Honestly, Age of Ultron was a huge letdown for me. I watched it twice and i have no desire to see an extended cut (although I'd prob still watch it). It's not a bad movie by any means, but The Avengers set the bar so high.

@Jebediah - I feel ya, but I still would have liked to see Whedon's personal vision for the movie. I thought the third act was a big letdown for Ultron himself and there were some questionable decisions throughout, but I think Feige's mark is what sullied the experience for me more than anything. I want to believe Whedon was more ambitious than the final product lets on.

@HEAVENORHECK - All the reports that came out after the movie talked about Marvel meddling in the creative process. I thought they would give Whedon a little bit more free reign after knocking The Avengers out the park. Let us hope they learn their lesson with the whole Marvel Films creative team re-org. In the Russos Bros. we trust. They have a hellova weight on their shoulders but I think they can knock it out of the park.

@HEAVENORHECK - fair enough, but let's not pretend that Deadpool's numbers didn't have any effect on this decision. The Dark Knight skirted on a R- rating and we didn't hear of any talks of a R-rated blu-ray. Sometimes the difference between R and PG-13 is cgi'ng out some blood and cutting a few f-bombs. Also, if the precedent was set by Watchmen, why no R-rated Man of Steel blu-ray?

@Jebediah - I maintain Deadpool did not figure at all into the actual decision. The timing of the announcement, perhaps, but not the decision itself, which had to have been made well in advance of this reveal. BvS was in post for the last year, and that finished up weeks ago, well before Deadpool surprised everyone. Raven talked about an extended cut LAST YEAR.

The cuts to MOS weren't for a more bankable rating. They were made for the pacing and tone of the film. We may never see the 4-hour cut because it doesn't add anything to the experience. Watchmen was cut to keep it from being a 3-hour R-rated superhero movie.

Precedents are not linear.

@HEAVENORHECK - Pacing and tone have everything to do with bank. That's why test screenings exist. Of course precedents are linear, that's inherent in the words definition. I think you mean that their effects are not always consecutive. I maintain that the differences that take a pg13 film and make it R are slight. Extended action scenes usually amount to a few minutes, sometimes even a few seconds tagged on here and there. I'm guessing that the majority of these scenes will revolve around Batman's brutality (just a guess). if this is the case then they may not be CGI heavy scenes. Also, post for the blu-ray release can extend past post for theatrical release.

@Avalon - Sure, it was rated in Sept. But c'mon guys we're talking about movie studios here. These guys don't like to take risks, if Deadpool shit the bed they could have easily axed the R-rated blu-ray plans or at least considered it, and if BvS underperforms they still can too. I mean, is it really that hard to believe that WB doesn't exist in a bubble where the successes of other studios franchises don't have an impact on strategy. That's all I'm saying. Having a COMIC BOOK MOVIE be the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time has someone seeing dollar signs. All I'm saying
