Chadwick Boseman Reveals BLACK PANTHER Plot Details; Talks Klaue, Killmonger, Vibranium And More

With Comic-Con right around the corner, Marvel Studios is finally pulling back the curtain on Black Panther. The first trailer for the movie will no doubt be revealed during the event, but in the meantime, a wealth of new images and details have found their way online. The latest is an interview with Chadwick Boseman in which he sheds plenty of light on what's to come in the 2018 release.

The Black Panther star weighs in on everything from where we find T'Challa when the movie starts to how the villains impact the story. While Killmonger will clearly play a big part in proceedings, it sounds like
Klaue will be the lead bad guy who is up to something big as he sets his sights on Wakanda. Is he going to power up in the same way as his comic book counterpart? It certainly sounds that way!

Here are some excerpts from the interview, though more can be found over at Entertainment Weekly.

On Black Panther's Mindset At The Start Of The Movie:

It’s shortly after Civil War has ended so he’s still in mourning. There’s a guilt in terms of taking the throne. There’s a feeling that he wishes that his father would have been alive to see it, if he would have given up the thrown for being too old. That’s the ideal way. His mindset is one of guilt and unsureness because he doesn’t have [his father] there. Generally, there is unrest because there’s no leader on the throne. We’re dealing with a similar thing right now in this country. Just because a person was elected doesn’t mean everybody agrees with the things he’s going to do. Having to make the first decisions … what do you do first? What do you choose to do that’s going to get everybody on your side? It’s a political drama essentially.

On Killmonger And Klaue's Roles In The Movie:

I can’t really say. Klaue is the real villain. I can say that I identify with Killmonger’s character. It’s going to be a fun character. He definitely has a different point of view. They are polar opposites. A superhero movie is only as great as its villains. I think they both provide a piece of that. You have Wakanda, which is an isolationist society, Klaue has entered that space and knows more about it than anybody else. Because of that, he is a threat. Not to mention that he’s accessed this gift that could also be a curse to the rest of the world.

How Vibranium Will Be Used In The Movie And Klaue's Mission:

A lot of times when we talk about Vibranium we talk about it as if it’s, like, nuclear. It’s not a nuclear weapon but with the flexibly and versatility of it, it can do a lot of things. The fact that he has accessed that and has the mind to use it for evil is the key thing. Most people don’t know what it is and what can be done with it. He is the Osama bin Laden of the movie. He’s out there, and you have to go find him because he’s coming back at some point in time.

I keep waiting for that one reason to doubt Marvel but it never comes...

@scapegoatjones - those are two of my favourite Marvel movies. The ones with less watchability ('cause none of them are straight out BAD) are Incredible Hulk and Ant-Man (I guess...)

@ODanil - lol ask what Bizarro is having for dinner because clearly you live down the street from him in his world. IM 3 is a terrible bastardization of a confluence of plotlines haphazardly and ham-fisted into a water down piece of donkey show moppings. AoU is a great example of the unenthusiastic lethargic approach to an ensemble vehicle, which hopefully wont retroactively be a cautionary harbinger for IW.

This definitely feels like it'll be political - Killmonger wanting Wakanda to be more open to the world and T'Challa not wanting it, or vice-versa, could end with a mutual agreement to go after Klaue together (the real villain as mentioned).

@NightWing81 - I think it will touch on racism too. Where Killmonger feels T'Challa is a sellout to the white man "Everett Ross" while trying to show T'Challa what happens when you give the white man power "Klaue". Sort of like Killmonger being the catalyst for bad things happening but doing it as a lesson for Wakanda.

@SonOfAGif - there is already a picture of Ross in Wakanda... that might be problematic for someone who is "Wakanda yes, outsiders no" so indeed, tension!!

Im glad that Serkis has a.much bigger role in the movie than originally thought. His role as Ceasar alone in all the planet of the apes movies is terrific so im expecting some good things from him. Also with Vulture and Ego (I enjoyed Guardians 2) and hopefully Hela in Thor Marvel is alowly correcting their villain issues.

The fight for the throne. I feel like he is going to give up the throne and let someone else rule his people while he remains a protector and Hunter for all man kind and not just wakanda
