Why Does 'Iron Man' Recruit 'Spider-Man' Instead Of 'Daredevil' In CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR?
Why would Tony Stark track down a teenage kid instead of the biggest badass in Hell's Kitchen? The movie's screenwriters shed some light on that here, and address that apparent "Homecoming" Easter Egg...
"Tony doesn't have a television, so he doesn't know about [Daredevil]. They're so violent," jokes Christopher Markus when asked by IGN about why Iron Man wouldn't decide to recruit a hero like Daredevil to take on #TeamCap in Captain America: Civil War. "I think he has been keeping tabs on the world and he knows about this one kid. In some ways there's a motivation having been accused of killing a young kid earlier in the movie to, 'Maybe I can rebuild karmically something that I've lost by helping this kid along.' And he's there, and he's available, and Tony's desperate!"
"He probably sees some of himself in this kid," Stephen McFeely adds. "Remember, when you meet this kid, he's clearly a budding scientist, but doesn't have the recources that Tony Stark does." That's an interesting - if somewhat unconvincing - explanation as to why Iron Man would choose Spidey over the Man Without Fear, but it's hard to complain when the MCU's take on the wall-crawler is so utterly perfect. Asked to comment on the possibility that of one of the words - "Homecoming" - used to control Bucky is a nod to the title of Spider-Man's solo outing, the duo dismissed that as a coincidence, and you can hear their comments in full above. Do you wish they'd chosen Daredevil over Peter?
