I'm 15 so i grew up with spidey, tmnt, looney tunes, spongeboob, transformers g1 and the disney spinoffs (aladin series, timon and pumba, the tarzan cartoon).Sad thing is that i live in greece so i could only watch only one or two seasons before the show stopping and nowadays the only ting on tv are baby cartoons (pepa the little pig).

I'm 22 and I have more memories of enjoying Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo, Batman, Superfriends, and others that predate most of the cartoons you posted about. I never liked Spongebob. How weird...

"There are gems out there such as The Looney Tunes Show, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, (hey the show is nice) Young Justice, Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Transformers Prime, Monsuno..."

You forgot a couple: Adventure Time and Regular Show.

I saw on the news once that Spongebob teaches kids how to have short attention spans. And I also agree that cartoons these days are telling kids to rebel against their parents when they're not around. My two nieces have problems controlling themselves.

Good article by the way.

The nineties, good times back then when MARVEL knew how to make a great Spider-man cartoon.

Meh... everyone loves the cartoons from when they were kids. So still stand out to us for sure, like Batman TAS. But everything different for a new generation of kids.

Just scrolling through cartoon network right now. Lego Ninjago - teaches about training and team work.
Ben Ten - Has had a thing about great power and responsibility for an number of seasons,a s well as family and teamwork.
Regular Show - all about 2 best buddies like so many others.
Heck even all the card battle shows and the like talk about how important friends and training are.

Really, the BEST cartoon out right now is Avatar The Legend of Korra... I cant wait for it to come back on. The original Avatar series was AMAZING.

Totally agree, what you said about Spongebob is true, I recognize every episode before the movie
BigK1337

I strongly disagree with the article, it symbolize everything I regret about being a 90s kid: other people using the great shows then as a tool to complain about recent shows without watching them at all. Seriously, different generations; I mean while we say our generation is the best for this and that, another generation will disagree with their own nostalgic shows.

Also, Inhumanoids FTW! If the Hub decided to bring back and remake another 80s gem similar to Transformers Prime, GI Joe Renegade, and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, they better do that series.
JorLBola
JorLBola - 8/4/2012, 11:45 AM
But my favorite of all the time is Batman animated series, So dark and deep... and I was just a little kid but I knew that was good :D

One of the few cartoons that seems to me funny nowadays is "REGULAR SHOW" Mordecay an Rigby are ok,I think
DylanMentis

How could you talk about 90's nostalgia and not mention Batman the animated series, or the DCAU in general?

You wouldnt have to be older to remember Doug over Rugrats because they came out at the exact same time in 1991.

For spongebob to have longevity, they made it so the episodes could go absolutely anywhere, and making him "dumber" helps that. I think the complete idiocy and non sence of spongegbob is what makes him and the show funny and relevant.

And while I enjoyed Spiderman TAS, even then I knew the animation, acting, story, AND PACING was crap, especially compared to Batman.

@BigK1337- I agree. But as someone who has checked out current shows, I can see where the author is coming from. Most of these shows today are just not good. Even when they're not being compared to shows from the 80's and 90's, they still fall flat on their asses. The only show I can tolerate on Nickelodeon is Legend of Korra.

There are some good cartoons on the air today. However, at times, it truly does seem as though they don't make cartoons like they used to anymore.
