RUMOR: Benedict Cumberbatch Joins The Cast Of STAR WARS EPISODE VII

Will Star Trek Into Darkness director J.J. Abrams and Benedict "Khan" Cumberbatch be reunited for Star Wars Episode VII? Well, with an official announcement said to be on the way, one site believes that the British actor is the first major casting addition to the movie. Check it out!

While Benedict Cumberbatch has said numerous times that he would like a role in Disney's new Star Wars trilogy, his involvement with the J.J. Abrams helmed Episode VII has been little more than fan speculation up until this point. Well, we've been hearing word of a major casting announcement being on the way all week, and now Film Chronicles believe they know who that is. "There’s a lot of gossip swirling around that Lucasfilm are about to make a big casting announcement regarding Star Wars VII, and that casting announcement appears to be none-other than Benedict Cumberbatch, most recently seen in director JJ Abrams’ previous movie, ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’." While they don't name any sort of source, the site definitely seem confident that the Sherlock star is in the movie. After all, he did mysteriously drop out of Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak recently. However, the timing of the report - the same day as Star Trek Into Darkness is released on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK - seems a little coincidental, so take it with a pinch of salt for the time being! What do you guys think? Sound off below!

@Soto Yeah, I get where your coming from. But you have to admit, he looks more like a Sith than anything.

Benedict isn't an idiot. He's played Khan and Smaug now.

Even for Star Wars, he won't do another villain.

Karl Urban did have a good point.

I'd have been excited about this (potential) casting if I hadn't seen him as the other big sci-fi franchise villain just a few months ago.

I approve of this.

Sorry, but he kicked so much major ass in "Into Darkness". He would definitely make a bad ass Sith Lord.

Still think Sith should be the Background villains in the series, with the Mandalorians appearing as the main threat.

Jedi or Sith, Benedict Cumberbatch will make a great addition. If he's a Jedi, he will be a Jedi like Mace Windu was a Jedi: a hardass, but wise. If he's a Sith, he will be a badass, but typecast unfortunately.

Either way, I don't care. Awesome.

@ndwwrestler2 - The Mandalorians were wiped out supposedly during the Old Republic. That would be awesome, but weird for the continuity. :(

@Christuffer Actually, there were still Mandalorians. If you remember the comic books with Jango Fett, and the Clone Wars, the Mandalorians did not go away.

And in the EU, they are still there.

@JatevinM It isn't like he's doing a Comic-Book based Super Hero role, Martian Manhunter can still happen.

As awesome as this would be, I would rather the actors remain separate from each franchise. I'd much rather see a return of Khan than see him in Star Wars.

mmm, dont like the idea of actors from one franchise crossing over to a similar one.

Excited if true. I wont build my hopes up just yet. I was disappointed he dropped out of Crimson Peak as I want him to work long term with Guillermo Del Toro and play Constantine in his Justice league dark.

This is probably bull, but if it IS true then...Holy hell that'd be awesome. I would love to see him as Jacen Solo. My goodness that would be epic! He would be a great Jedi and Sith
