After airing two of its 10 episodes planned for season two, HBO has already announced its hit sci-fi drama Westworld has been renewed for a third season.

“It’s been an extraordinary pleasure to work with the exceptionally talented Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, as well as their gifted cast and crew,” said Casey Bloys, president of HBO Programming. “From the inspired storytelling to the incredible visuals, we are so excited to see where the next chapter will take us.”

The second season of Westworld debuted on April 22, picking up shortly after the events of season one, with the robotic hosts having achieved sentience and now planning an uprising. With eight episodes remaining this season, it's impossible to say what season three will entail or which characters will be returning.

No release window for season three has been announced, but you can catch new episodes of the current season two on Sunday nights at 9pm ET/PT on HBO. Ratings for season two have started strong with a season premiere pulling in 2.1 million viewers - up 5 percent from the series' debut in fall 2016.

That's gonna be hard to do since this show isn't ending anytime soon!

I guess we'll get another 2 year gap for S3 as well?

@Doomsday8888 - I bet it will be less.

But I'm willing to sacrifice the time gap if it's in the name of a better story. You can't rush these things.

@Doomsday8888 - haha there ya go! If you haven't checked it out yet, HBO has some great new shows this year.

High Maintenance, Crashing and Barry are all great 30min comedies to fill the time. All 3 shows definitely worth watching.

I really like how Dolores is basically a completely different character this season. It adds a great new dynamic to the show, kind of like the reverse roles of the T-800 in T1 and T2.

We get a third freaking season of Westworld, but we can't get a greenlight for Eastworld, Northworld, or Southworld?
