It took every last second of summer, but as the calendar turns the page to fall, Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment's Jurassic World: Dominion has crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office.

The film, which united the newer World cast with the Legacy Park cast, has earned over $376 million domestically and $624 million internationally (including over $158M from China and $45M from Japan), taking it just over $1 billion. It's the third film in the storied franchise to roar past the figure, joining its immediate predecessors 2015's Jurassic World ($1.672B) and 2018's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ($1.310B).

Making the feat even more impressive is that the Jurassic World Dominion - Extended Edition has been available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and Digital HD since mid-August and is also currently available to stream on Peacock.

The Colin Trevorrow-directed blockbuster is now the third film to reach the monumental milestone in the pandemic era, following Sony and Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: No Way Home ($1.916B) and Paramount's Top Gun: Maverick ($1.464B). It's also now the 50th highest-grossing film ever worldwide and sits at #49 domestically.

While the future remains to-be-determined, Universal is unlikely to keep arguably their biggest franchise dormant for too long, although we do imagine there will be a significant wait before anything new begins to materialize, as this latest installment was billed as the end of the Jurassic Park saga.

Stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and BD Wong were quick to celebrate the news, as they cap off their trilogy with a big bang.

In our review of Colin Trevorrow's franchise capper, we said "Jurassic World: Dominion is pure dinosaur mayhem at its finest, 100% fueled by nostalgia and amplified by epic dinosaur action, making it one of the more fun films of the summer. Due to a so-so story, enjoyment will likely heavily depend on your investment in the series, but if you’re looking for two hours of chaotic entertainment, then this is definitely the film for you."

The star-studded cast of the Jurassic World: Dominion features Jurassic alums Chris Pratt (Owen Grady), Bryce Dallas Howard (Claire Dearing), 3x Golden Globe-nominee Sam Neill (Alan Grant), Academy Award-winner Laura Dern (Ellie Sattler), Academy Award-nominee Jeff Goldblum (Ian Malcolm), BD Wong (Dr. Henry Wu), Omar Sy (Barry Sembane), Justice Smith (Franklin Webb), Daniella Pineda (Zia Rodriguez), and Isabella Sermon (Maisie Lockwood).

Newcomers to the franchise include DeWanda Wise (She's Gotta Have It) as Kayla Watts, Mamoudou Athie (Sorry for Your Loss) as Ramsay Cole, Campbell Scott (The Amazing Spider-Man) as Dr. Lewis Dodgson, Scott Haze (Venom) as Rainn Delacourt, Dichen Lachman (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as Soyona Santos, Kristoffer Polaha (Wonder Woman 1984) as Wyatt Huntley, Elva Trill (Starstruck) as Charlotte Lockwood, Dimitri Thivalos in an undisclosed role, and Varada Sethu (Now You See Me 2) as Shira.

This summer, experience the epic conclusion to the Jurassic era as two generations unite for the first time. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are joined by Oscar®-winner Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill in Jurassic World Dominion, a bold, timely and breathtaking new adventure that spans the globe. From Jurassic World architect and director Colin Trevorrow, Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live—and hunt—alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures.

The Jurassic World: Dominion - Extended Edition is now available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and Digital HD!

I friend of mine thinks this is the worst movie of the year. Lower than The new Munsters movie. Though this movie isn’t great and not what the final Jurassic movie should have been, I think my friend has a brain tumor.

@philinterrupted - I agree with your friend.

This film is an abomination.

But I haven't seen Munsters, so what do I know. It's like comparing 2 turds and which one smells worse.

I watched it with a girl and had to pretend I liked it. Right now I am sitting in a poolside chair having just gotten out of the pool, water is dripping under me, and a lizard who is just here drinking it. I did record it the other day, but I didn’t record Yesterdays, I should have because to lizards were fighting over butt water. Now that is something you can bring a girl to watch

That also makes Jurassic World: Dominion the 50th movie overall to cross a billion. Hard to believe we've reached that point.

Hm, so they really dragged this movie to a billion didnt they. Like pushed it on it’s dying hands and knees past $999 million.

Hard to believe Marvel has had 2 big sequels come out this year and they haven’t yet. Black Panther prob will, since the first made over the Billion easily, but still shocking Thor (even tho I hate Thor 4) still doesn’t have one in the franchise

@DannRamm113 -
Without China, the first only made $1.1bn and I doubt this one will have the same impact especially without China and high levels of competition.

@Scarilian - First one actually made $1,223,269,982 without China and Russia. It’s very much still possible, and what competition does it have? The only big one is more than a month after it releases, which is Avatar 2.
