We're inching ever closer to the release of The Matrix Resurrections, and Warner Bros. has now debuted a new theatrical poster for Lana Wachowski's follow-up to the original trilogy nobody ever really expected to see.

The one sheet spotlights Neo (Keanu Reeves), Trinity (Carrie-Ann Moss), the younger incarnation of Morpheus (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), and two new characters we still know very little about. Based on the trailer, we can deduce that Jessica Henwick's Bugs will act as a guide for "Thomas" in much the same way Morpheus did in the first movie. As for the woman in the back, she's so mysterious we're not actually too sure who it is or who's playing her!

Check out the poster below, and keep an eye out for a new trailer any day now.

“The Matrix Resurrections is a continuation of the story established in the first Matrix film… 20 years after the first film, the franchise that helped define pop culture at the turn of the century is back for a continuation and extension of the original movie. A mind-bending new adventure with action and epic scale, it’s set in a familiar yet even more provocative world where reality is more subjective than ever and all that’s required to see the truth is to free your mind"

Other franchise returnees include Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe, Lambert Wilson as The Merovingian, and Daniel Bernhardt as Agent Johnson. Also joining the cast will be Andrew Caldwell, Priyanka Chopra, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Ellen Hollman, Eréndira Ibarra, Toby Onwumere, Christina Ricci, Max Riemelt, and Brian J. Smith.

The Matrix Resurrections will be released in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously on December 22.

I just hope it doesn't rely on repeating the same tropes just to satisfy fans rather than try something new. I'm looking at you Halloween (2018) where it felt like the same story being retold with the same cast in a different time period.

@SonOfAGif - Force Awakens, too.

Love the red pill blue pill dichotomy on this poster represented by Morpheus suit and Jessica henwicks hair. Adds some much needed flair

@JFerguson - wait, wouldn't that imply Jessica henwicks character is actively trying to keep neo stuck in the matrix? You might have pointed out a huge plot detail.

@Origame - 👀 oop wait is Jessica henwicks character not confirmed to be a bad guy? I don’t know I didn’t watch the trailer lol

@JFerguson - not really. We only know the basics with neo, morpheus, and trinity being good guys, while most likely niel Patrick Harris is a new villain. Jessica Hendrick's character did appear guiding neo somewhere. So who knows. But with color being a big deal with the wachowski siblings you might be on to something.

Hopefully not another soft remake like Force Awakens or Dark Fate. I’m cautiously optimistic about this. The original Matrix is still one of the best science fiction/action films ever made.

Morpheus: You guys are stupid. See, they're going to be looking for ultra-stylized leather hacker mafia guys.

They mention the 1st movie three times in that synopsis. So is this confirmation they're retconning the sequels? Not smart if you ask me...

@MrDitkovich - of course you'd say that. If either of them bought tickets, they wouldn't be able to pay you rent.

I really want this to be good. 2 and 3 aren't awful, they're just not as good but they have interest concepts. Hopefully this is more like 1

I'm just glad we got Trinity and Neo back. Killing them was just dumb.
