STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Will Reveal More About Rey's Parents Says J.J. Abrams

For many Star Wars fans, the reveal that Rey's parents weren't any legendary Jedi or Sith Lords was a huge letdown. Will J.J. Abrams retcon Rian Johnson's controversial decision in The Rise of Skywalker?

A lone girl on a desolate planet, eeking out survival thanks to the destruction wrought from a previous war between the Jedi and Sith. It seemed destined that Rey would have some sort of connection to the original Star Wars trilogy, but director Rian Johnson's decision to subvert that (and many other) expectations led to the reveal that Rey's parents were junk traders that sold their child. However, persistent Star Wars fans refused to believe Kylo Ren and continue to make YouTube videos insisting that he was lying.

Well, The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams just provided a bunch of fuel to that fire. Speaking to ABC News following the Star Wars Celebration, The Force Awakens director revealed that the subject of Rey's parentage isn't a closed matter.

"I will say that we knew, going into this, that this movie, it had to be a satisfying conclusion. And we were well aware that that’s one of the things that’s been out there. I don’t want to say that what happens in Episode 8 [didn’t happen]. We have honored that. But I will say that there’s more to the story than you’ve seen.

There will be no less than 100 new YouTube videos on Rey's parents by the end of the week.

What do you make of Abrams' comments? The first remark that Episode IX has to be a satisfying conclusion seems to be a hint that The Rise of Skywalker will attempt to appease the diehard, lifelong Star Wars fans who went on to thrash The Last Jedi.

Rey will be revealed to be Kylo's sister. Would go with the franchise theme.

Original Trilogy had the incestuous kiss between Leia and Luke.

Sequel Trilogy will have Rey lusting after gratuitous Kylo pecs in The Last Jedi. But plot twist, they are siblings!

In all seriousness though, a retcon would feel incredibly cheap.

@KingLeonidas - That's JJ Abrams for ya. Funny thing is that all the people who hated TLJ will prob love this familiarity in 9. Sucks that 9 will prob do nothing special except retcon all of 8.

I guess fans just don't like the fact that they can't guess or theorize where the franchise is going.

@mastakilla39 - It is a horrible look because it would show that despite Kathy's claim that they had a big plan or whatnot, it was all made up as they went along with no grand story that they wanted to tell.

@mastakilla39 - I think fans don't like when a series is suddenly inconsistent
You pay for an iPhone. You expect something resembling an Apple Product, nor Samsung

Prob bad example lol

@KingLeonidas - I think Kylo saw Rey's real parents and lied to her, not to manipulate her but to protect her because the truth about her origins is far worse.

After Anakin Skywalker was diced up and left for dead by Obi Wan Kenobi, much of Emperor Palpatines ambitions for the grooming of his new Padawan as his enforcer and eventual predecessor were put into a questionable state of uncertainty. His grand plans hinged on the fallen Skywalker being by his side.

Uncertain that the medical droids, cybernetic enhancements and rehabilitation therapeutics would return to him the Padawan he required, he enacted a backup plan. He was to in secret have a small group of Kaminos best clone engineers build a hidden facility to begin the cloning of a single Anakin Skywalker who would posses all of his limbs and be engineered to be better in every way and possibly even be more naturally intuitive with the Force because of it's perfected and pure cloning process. Similar advanced results were developed within later generations of Clone Troopers.

After decades of failed attempts, the real Anakin had survived and thrived as the villainous Darth Vader, so the Emperor decided there was no immediate rush to produce a clone, but still he wanted to know why they were unable to produce results from Anakin's blood. So he told them to keep trying.

Years later as the second Death Star was commencing construction, Palpatine was alerted of a development, but even before the message reached his ears he could feel it. An awakening.

After decades and countless failed attempts, finally the cloning gestation process began producing results, but the scientists were shocked and clueless as to why the only specimen ever to survive had divided, and the clone was now to be twins. A boy and a girl.

One of the beneficial results of the Kominoans cloning process is the advanced aging, allowing the clone to reach maturity quicker as to become purpose functional in a short time. But as this specific cloning experiment was in completely new territory for the Kaminoans, they had no idea what results to expect. Neither did Palpatine with how he should best approach grooming each of the infant clones to be potential future Padawan.

The Emperor decided he would employ two different strategies. For the boy, he would leave in the custody of his closest advisers to educate in the ways of the Sith, the traditional approach to conditioning a Dark Side allegiant child of the Force.

The girl... the girl he would experiment with. The Emperor recently discovered the Children of Anakin Skywalker live, and the boy was raised on an unassuming dessert planet much like his Father before him. The Emperor sensed he could turn Luke as he had turned Anakin, he was positive Luke would be his next Padawan. Palpatine suspected perhaps a traditional Sith education wasn't the best way to breed his successor, so he sent the Girl to be raised on an unassuming dessert planet to grow up like Anakin and Luke had while the boy was raised and trained in the arts of ancient Sith teachings.

Unlike the Clone Troopers who aged rapidly to maturity then slowed, this didn't happen for the clone Skywalker twins. Not quite. The girl seemed to age completely normally, and from scouts monitoring her development she appeared to have no Force sensitivity at all as a child. The boy however aged rapidly but didnt stop once he reached maturity.

Unable to stop his aging with science, Palpatine was able to use periodic treatments of ancient force techniques to slow his aging down.

Palpatine used this as a tool to manipulate the boy into complete and total submission of loyalty. But then news of the new Death Stars destruction, Vaders betrayal and Luke's defeat of the Emperor spreads across the Empire.

The Emperors android uploaded conciousness does what he does in Battlefront 2, sends word of the plan for the high ranking members of the Empire to head into the uncharted sectors and enact his backup plans.

Knowing without the Emperor alive to slow his aging he doesn't have long to live. A decade or 2 until he dies of old age if hes lucky. The boy sets out to track down every ancient holocron, text or legend which might lead him to the technique Palpatine used to slow his aging.

After nearly a decade of searching he found the technique, but it took a constant application of the Force to sustain his aging. He could momentarily stop focusing on the technique to use a show of Force power to establish dominance or quickly dismantle a foe, but he would quickly have to refocus on his aging and it leaves him perpetually weak and sickly, not to mention his rapid aging had already taken a significant toll on him and he had begun to decompose. It was merely his massive natural talent with the force that kept him alive.

When he returned from his expedition he found the universe had fallen in love with the legend of Luke Skywalker which infuriated him to no end. He tracked down the remnants of the Empire growing stronger secretly in uncharted space, quickly seized control of them and declared himself the one and only Supreme Leader of the First Order. His first charge was to track down Luke Skywalker and make him hurt as Luke had hurt him.

He found the best way to destroy the man was by turning the young Ben Solo to the Dark side. Only once the boy joined the First order and pledged himself as Kylo would he allow Luke to die by his nephews hand.

Ben Solos fall to the dark side is complete, Luke's Jedi Academy is decimated and Luke's entire belief system is destroyed and disgusted by the fact he briefly acted upon almost killing his nephew, and the guilt later of questioning if maybe he should have in that moment, and the weight of his legend and his own ego in times of peace and the romance of his own accomplishments blinded him to what was right under his nose, that he couldn't see Ben falling until it was too late, then his internal conflict of the rights or wrongs of killing ben just was the last straw that broke Luke, and waking up to his students dead and his temple destroyed cemented his broken spirit. He had failed the Jedi order, he had failed the Galaxy, and most bitterly he failed Ben, Leia and Han.

So he ran. He hid. He cut himself from the force. He realized the light side would rise to meet any danger that would come, but it would be better served without the ways of the Jedi misguiding them. Luke realized the universe didnt need the Jedi, and saying that the Jedi are the light side is ego, the light side lives on with or without the Jedi. So he stayed away.

But then there is an awakening in the Force. The girl twin has grown up on Jakku. The First Order rise up and the resistance wages war against them. But without the Jedi, the First Order make quick work of the resistance. But a new hope comes in the form of new of a map leading to the location of the legendary Luke Skywalker.

Meanwhile its revealed that one of Emperor Palpatines contingency plans was to clone himself in case all other plans should fail. Upon the Empire retreating to uncharted space, a select elite set off to Palpatines secret cloning facility and successfully cloned Palpatine. Within a few years he reaches puberty, is in possession of his previous memories, powers and general conciousness but now in a younger body (played by Matt Smith, Ian McDiarmid plays Palatine in flashbacks).

Impressed with the initiative shown by his potential Padawan Snoke Skywalker in his absence, he decides to stay hidden and watch from a far, perhaps use the force to influence events here and there, but ultimately retires to the one place nobody would look for him, in the wreckage of the second Death Star which crashed in the ocean of Endor. But he watch both of his children's lives as they grew, as they both struggled to survive, as they both searched for their own answers. In a way Palpatine was like her father, he gave her life and always watched her as a father would, with pride. Something which breaks Reys heart when Palpatine reveals all of this to Kylo and Rey when they confront him at the end of Episode 9. And Palpatine tells Rey that Kylo knew the entire time and manipulated her, used her like all the other. But Palpatine swears he would never lie to her as Kylo, he would never kill her loved ones as Kylo killed Han and so many of her friends.

Palpatine tries to manipulate Rey to turn on Kylo to make her fall in a moment of passionate betrayal like Anakin, the man she was cloned from. But Ben is now conflicted having finally learned the true origins of Snoke and how he was just his pawn, and the ending hints and both Rey and Kylo turning on each other.

And they do, light sabers flare up and clash as Rey attacks Ben. Ben is shocked by the rage Rey is showing, but then in a split second Rey winks and Ben realizes it's a distraction so Ben can ignite Palpatines lightsaber and kill the Emperor as he did Snoke.

It fails. Palpatine informs them that even with Snokes eminence and admittedly intimidating power with the Force, it was both his arrogance, lack of discipline and ultimately his reliance of the anti aging force technique which left Snoke vulnerable to such a deception. But Palpatine would not be fooled by such a trick.

Then the final battle between the redeemed Ben Solo, Rey Skywalker and young Emperor Palpatine kicks into full HOLY [frick] WHAT AM I WATCHING THIS IS [frick]ING AWESOME mode. Force powers and lightsaber battles unlike anything we will ever see again with these OP force users.

The fight ends when Ben wraps up Palpatine so Rey can deliver the final skewering blow, sticking he saber through Palpatine and Ben at the same time. Rey is so filled with rage from the fight that she doesn't notice at first that she actually skewered Ben too. She realizes on as Palpatine, till on her sober blade, smiles and says "Very good... my child."

A tear streams down her face as she turn off her light saber as both Palpatine and Ben fall to the ground.

Rey rushes to Ben, crying profusely and repeatedly saying "I'm sorry" over and over. Ben touched her face, and says "You didnt do this. This wasn't you. You did what had to be done." She says she can get help, he cant die. Liea needs to see what he did here. She needs to bring him back to Leia. Ben says "No. I'm not going anywhere." She says but you cant die. To which Ben responds "I thought I had to let the past die.... but now I know.... nothing ever really dies." Repeating Luke's words from the trailer.

He passes away. Rey brings Ben's body back to Leia, which is their tearful embrace from the trailer. Leia is heartbroken but saw him redeem himself through the force and shes at peace with him.

With the Emperor clone dead, the first order dispatched and the galaxy at peace again, Rey toys with the idea of rebuilding the Jedi order, but decides instead to go back to Luke's island, help the care takers maintain the island and await a day when a young force user comes looking for help.

Generations later, the Legends of the Skywalkers saving the universe births a new order of light side force users taking their first steps towards an unknown power the dont know yet as the Force. This order will be known throughout the Galaxy for eons to come as the Skywalkers.

And that's the end of the Skywalker Saga... explaining the origins of the Skywalker name which will be the future good guys of the next generation of Star Wars should Disney ever decide to continue the timeline moving forward.

That's my insanely long fan theory.

@KingLeonidas - oh I forgot to mention, the final shot of the movie shows the Order of Skywalkers training in a temple in the future, the camera pans up and we see force ghosts silently watching over them. Among them we see Liam Neeson, Hayden Christian and Ewan McGregor reprising as Qui-gon, Anakin and Obiwan, Yoda, (The Last Jedi Flashback aged) Luke and Liea, Rey and Ben Solo with his arm around his mom. The last shot we see is a surprise Han force ghost walk up and put his arm around him son and say "Hey kid" to Ben, as Luke looks over and smiles and Liea hugs Luke.

Screen wipe to credits roll.

Not a dry eye in the joint.

I'm still going with Rey is a clone of Luke made from his severed hand, and that's the "story for another time" Maz mentioned.
I think she was cloned by the first order or some faction like them to be raised to fight Luke, but didn't show force sensitivity at a young age so she was scrapped. A couple didn't have the heart to kill her, so they left her on Jakku and said she was dead. Snoke knew it wasn't true and then in TFA we see the force finally awake in her.

“ I don’t want to say that what happens in Episode 8 [didn’t happen].....” but......that’s kinda what we’re going for.

The clone suggestion above is interesting.....maybe leftover DNA from Vader or whatever was used to create Anakin in the first place.......
