Tickets went on sale for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings earlier today (read more about that here), and Marvel Studios has now shared the first clip and an IMAX poster for the movie.

The latter features some surprising reveals, including our best look yet at The Great Protector. Interestingly, that dragon seemingly won't be the only one we see here as there's a second, far more sinister version taking flight we're guessing could be the MCU's take on Fin Fang Foom (likely with a new name, similar to how "The Mandarin" has become Wenwu for his live-action debut).

A clip has also been shared showing more of that intense scaffolding fight sequence.

"This is a really exciting scene," director Destin Daniel Cretton tells Fandango"Brad Allen was our second unit director and he and one of our great choreographers, Andy Cheng, choreographed this fight sequence. One of Brad Allen's heroes is Buster Keaton. You'll see a lot of Buster Keaton-like storytelling throughout this sequence, a lot of physical comedy, a lot of setups and payoffs. It's just a really exciting sequence and a small taste of what our movie has to offer in terms of its action."

The world premiere for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings takes place this evening, and it feels like Marvel Studios is now pulling out all the stops to get fans excited ahead of September 3.

@PantherKing - Looking good!

Can't help thinking on how Jackie Chan did this kind of stuff for real, lol.

I like the use of the environment with the wooden plank move. Don’t see enough of that these days. The camera seems to stay wide for the most part and really let the action flow. Fingers crossed they don’t cut too much.

@BlackBeltJones - The mall fight from Police Story is still one of the best uses of an environment in a fight scene imo

@tmp3 - Jackie is the GOAT

First Strike ladder scene is amazing too

Hmmm... Fing Fang Foom in the background of the poster?

@Roodi - No. Unless they are doing a bait and switch, this is the Great Protector, not Fin Fang Foom.

@BassMan - In the comics Fin usually only has one tail.

Maybe this dragon is actually a British actor posing as Fin Fang Foom and the REAL F×3 is still out there! 😳

@Roodi - it is, the red is great protector and the other one is FFF. I said this long time ago, but nobody believed me.

the editing of the action in an martial arts movie is key, and thankfully they seem to have nailed it here, the camera work is mostly smooth, the cuts last a proper amount of time, it gives the choreography room to breathe and to showcase itself. if the whole movie has this kind of editing then this might have the best edited fight corepgraphy in the entire MCU.

@CrazyTomCruise - and apparently Komodo dragons are now on the Galapagos off South America and not only the Komodo islands of Indonesia. You learn something new every day

When he sited Buster Keaton as someone he liked and was influenced by, I knew I would find the sequence more to my liking.

Simu is obviously not Jackie Chan or Sammo Hong, but it is so great to see them use his history doing stunt work to great use. Being able to go from the actor showing their reaction to a moment and then seamlessly going into their counterattack without a cut makes such a huge difference for the fluidity of the fight choreography. It also lets the camera linger and flow through moments and movements in a way that's way more visceral. I definitely love what I'm seeing here.

Hopefully Marvel picks up the importance of stuff like this from Shang Chi and even the casino scene in Black Panther and incorporates that more.

The movie will no doubt be awesome, but out of context this clip felt particularly weird.

Anyone else have like 0 hype for this movie. I mean this clip looked good but still I can’t get interested. I’m looking forward to venom more tbh. This is the first MCU movie since the captain America 1 that I think I’ll skip in theaters

@Will44482 - agreed. First marvel movie where 8 have zero hype. I can't put Mt finger on it. Thus movie oddly reminds me of Narnia or Mulan. Lots of cgi spectacle and little to connect me to the protagonist Shang chi unlike Iron man where the lead had charisma of a God

@Will44482 - I’m not “hyped”. Just intrigued by what this and eternals represents.

Sort of a start anew with the MCU for folks that haven’t or don’t want to really follow the over arching storylines religiously.

These stand alones (for now anyway) will relatively unknown characters (to me anyway) represent some fresh air ness.

We shall see.

@Will44482 -

my hype levels are low but i think it'll be okay. i'm expecting it'll fall into that well-made but middling MCU pocket, like doctor strange.

idk, just kinda wished they'd scaled back on the bombast for these less bombastic characters.
Spike101
Spike101 - 8/16/2021, 1:29 PM
@Will44482 - me! I think the whole MCU has gone off the boil a bit, it’s like they have got too wrapped up in their own success whilst not actually understanding what caused the success in the first place. Ultimately they need to follow the major characters and portray them faithfully whilst adding in a few less well known ones along the way as they did with GotG. Systematically killing off they legacy characters and worlds is only going to end one way….

That was a great scene! Definitely put my worries to rest about over-editing of the fight scenes. The shots last long enough to understand everything. I hope that Marvel continues the trend for future releases, and not just limit it to this because of the martial arts influences.
