SPIDER-MAN: J.K. Simmons Reveals The Crazy Way He Learned About Being Cast As J. Jonah Jameson SPIDER-MAN: J.K. Simmons Reveals The Crazy Way He Learned About Being Cast As J. Jonah Jameson

J.K. Simmons first played J. Jonah Jameson in 2002's Spider-Man, and the actor - who will reprise the role in Spider-Man: No Way Home - has now revealed how he learned he'd been cast in Sam Raimi's movie.

J.K. Simmons unexpectedly reprised the role of J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man: Far From Home's mid-credits scene, and is expected to have an even bigger part in Spider-Man: No Way Home

However, as we're sure you'll know, he first played the character in 2002's Spider-Man. That version of JJJ has become nothing short of iconic, and the way Simmons learned of his casting was far from typical. Instead of a call from his agent or the studio, the news was broken to the actor...by a fan!

"I’m walking following the person through the cubicles and this desk chair comes flying out in front of me, backwards, with some kid who was probably 28 and he goes, ‘Oh my God J.K., congratulations!’ and I go, ‘Thank you. For what?’ and he goes, ‘Are you kidding me? Spider-Man! J. Jonah Jameson, that’s so cool!’ and I was like, ‘I did not know that...I found out I got the part because of some kid who was so connected to the internet fan sites that they had that information on a Spider-Man website before my agent called me to tell me I got the job."

"He called me like 3 hours later and I’m like, ‘Yeah, I know,'" Simmons recalls in the video below.

It's crazy to think how much things have changed, but way back in the early 2000s, there wasn't the same sort of furore surrounding superhero movies as there is now. The internet was also in its infancy at the time, but this fan was somehow still one step ahead of Simmons' agent! Two decades on, here's hoping they're reading this so they know the role they played in breaking the news to the actor!

Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives in U.S. on December 17 and in the UK on December 15.

Cool story. But it makes his agent look somewhat bad. Personally, I wouldn't believe it until I heard it from my agent, and then I would want to know what the f#ck took my agent so long to tell me.

@LSHF - I don't know; it's a bit presumptuous to to think the agent did something wrong without knowing the circumstances of why that happened.

@MosquitoFarmer - Valid point; thank you.

@Waddles - @MosquitoFarmer - Thanks.

After your replies, I had to go back and re-read the quotes, because something wasn't making sense. And for some stupid reason(s), I read "...three weeks..." instead of "hours". Duh!

I had a dream last night that a theater opened in my hometown allowing me to watch No Way Home without having to travel hundreds of kilometers nor wait for digital release. But then I woke up.

I know J.K. Simmons was in Far From Home, but it was only the post credits scene. I wonder if some people will get confused with him being the MCU Jonah, yet Tobey, Andrew and the villains all come from the Multiverse.

They should throw in a joke with Tobey, Goblin or Ock acknowledging how Jonah's (unfortunately) the same annoyance in the MCU as he is in their world.

With so many characters packed in, I'm afraid he won't have more than three scenes.

I hope he will be at least memorable.

I'll miss his iconic hair tho, it was much cooler.

I'm kinda in a bad situation because the Covid numbers are rising in my country.

That means that the cinemas won't be open in December, opposite to other countries, where everybody is currently preparing & buying tickets.

This means I will be bombed with millions of spoilers before I see Tobey again with my own two eyes :/

@UXASIS - Avoid this site at all costs. They are notorious for spoiling things and I don’t mean the commenters. Next up would be muting anything to do with Spider-Man on Twitter.

@BobbyW - Yeah, not visiting this site probably wouldn't be too problematic, but it will be all over Facebook.

On a related note, even though I wasn't watching anything Eternals-related on youtube, all of a sudden there was a cinema pirate clip of Ikaris fighting a certain character. That kinda spoiled the twist, nevertheless, I still enjoyed the movie very much.

"The crazy way he learned about being cast as J.Jonah Jameson."

My guess carrier pigeon or message in a bottle.
