I always compare any new DC Animated Original Movie to the best one that I've seen, that being 'Superman/Batman: Public Enemies'. 'Superman/Batman: Apocalypse' will be no different. That being said, let's get to it!
'Superman/Batman: Apocalypse' features the return of Kevin Conroy as Batman and Tim Daley as Superman (which is by far the most recognizable and best voice duel format for these two characters DC could use ever!). Also starring is Andre Braugher as Darkseid(which, in my opinion, his performance was kinda week, it just didn't seem like he had a powerful enough voice to be Darkseid, just my opinion, don't worry I don't charge for it), Ed Asner as Granny Goodness (who turned in a better performance as a Women then Andre Braugher turned in as a dude), and Summer Glau as Supergirl (Summer did fine, it's very hard to screw up Supergirl, especially an origin story).
The movie starts out with Kara coming to Earth. She crash lands in the Bat boat giving Batman a first glimpse at the new kid from Krypton. Always the cynic, Batman does not welcome Kara with open arms, Superman (being Kara's cousin) does and wants to take her under his wing. Wonder Woman sees an opportunity to train Kara and confronts Batman and Superman. After a brief scuffle Kara finds herself on her way to Paradise Island, where she is trained in combat. Superman doesn't see the point and Wonder Woman is quick to remind Sups that 'having power and knowing how to use it aren't the same thing', Superman can only reply 'She's getting on my nerves'. This sequence brings all the good guys together and provides a bit of a purpose for all of them, which is the well being of Kara.
Kara still has to make a choice and be who she was born to be. Throw Darkseid and Granny Goodness in the mix and what you get is a rock em sock em punch you in the face action flick that reintroduces Supergirl to the DC Universe in a way that has not been seen before.
'Superman/Batman: Apocalypse' is better then 'Superman/Batman: Public Enemies' for one reason, and that is the last act of the movie. Both movies flowed really well and where easy to watch. Both Storylines draw you in and with the way the 'Superman/Batman: Apocalypse' introduction played out it felt like a true sequel to 'Superman/Batman: Public Enemies'. Which is a good thing!
There is a bit of time where you say to yourself: 'Wait a minute, I didn't see Superman fight Darkseid or anyone else fight him! What's up with that?' Well let me just say the end sequence is solid and tied the movie up nicely. The fight between Superman, Supergirl and Darkseid was simply Epic in every way. You almost didn't see it coming as it happened right when Kara is feeling the cool summer breeze and the nice relaxing notion of growing up on a simple farm in Kansas. Then BOOOM!! The shat hits the fan and Superman and Supergirl are back to fighting for their lives again. This time against Darkseid himself! ComicBookMovie Fans, this is the fight that you have all been waiting to see!
So in closing I would like to add that future DC Animated Movies will be compared to 'Superman/Batman: Apocalypse' as it was better then 'Superman/Batman: Public Enemies' but only by a fight scene. And that's not a complaint. DC and Warner Bro's continue hitting Animated Original Movie home runs out of the park, leaving Marvel with a bad taste in their mouth. If you only buy one Animated title per year then pick up 'Superman/Batman: Apocalypse' it will not disappoint. If you buy two then you simply have to see 'Batman: Under the Red Hood', which is ranked third on my 'Bestes of All Time 'DC Animated Original Movie List'! I can't wait to add more to the list.

PS: The look at Superman's next animated adventure 'All-Star Superman' looked pretty cool. As long as they keep the pacing of Public Enemies, Apocalypse, and Under the Red Hood that one will be a hit as well!
