Avengers: Endgame ended with Steve Rogers passing the Captain America mantle to Sam Wilson. Two years later in 2021, we caught up with the hero in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, learning he'd declined Steve's offer (meaning John Walker took his place).

By the time the finale rolled around, Sam had decided to wield the shield and did so in style. Four years after that series hit Disney+, we'll next see the former Falcon take centre stage in Captain America: Brave New World

After Happy Meal toys, leaked promo art, and more, we finally have an official look at Sam suited up courtesy of Empire Online. The suit looks good here, but many fans have already argued that it's a step back from what we wore in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

According to Captain America: Brave New World director Julius Onah, this movie is "really [Sam's] coming-out show. It’s about putting him through the paces."

"Part of the challenge for Sam as Captain America, working within the government, is the way he’s going to make decisions," the filmmaker continues. "The point of view he’s going to have will at times put him at odds with the President."

"The action in this movie is incredibly exciting because this is a guy who can break, this is a guy who can bleed. We get to have a lot of fun pushing him to the limit."

The President mentioned above is General "Thunderbolt" Ross, who we know transforms into the Red Hulk at some point.

Chances are Samuel Sterns, a.k.a. The Leader, will have something to do with that. Asked about how The Incredible Hulk villain factors into the story, Onah says, "Sam finds himself almost standing between Samuel Sterns and what he thinks the government owes him, and how he wants to go about getting that."

Captain America: Brave New World stars Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, Liv Tyler, and WWE Superstar Seth Rollins.

Julius Onah helms the movie from a screenplay by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, though the director is believed to have also taken a pass at it. Matthew Orton, meanwhile, has written new scenes for the additional photography scheduled to take place this summer.

Captain America: Brave New World is set to arrive in theaters on February 14, 2025.

I'm intrigued by the premise, and I believe that Red Hulk might serve as a ideological antagonist, I really hope this movie is good.

Fingers crossed!

The suit looks good to me…

I do miss the one from the end of FaTWS but given the more grounded action thriller tone of this film , I guess it makes sense to have a more muted one akin to Steve’s from TFA to TWS.

Also , I like the director’s comments aswell…

Hopefully they are taking inspiration from 80’s action films such as Die Hard where the hero is bloody & bruised by the end (it probably won’t be that extreme but you get the idea).

I'm quite excited for this movie, despite some of the negative vibes around it. I remember the Serpent Society story from the Cap comics and think the Red Hulk could be interesting.

Looks good but would be nice if they kept more of the comic design and didnt just make it look like Steve’s winter soldier suit

While i like the character sam wilson. You can put whatever suit you want on him to me thats not Captain America. Didnt like it when they did it the comics and im not into it now either.

There's a lot of potential for this movie to be great. While I think for the greater MCU, this should have been more of a "Civil War" type film to establish the dynamics with newer characters like Shang-Chi and Sam's role as the new "captain" of the Avengers, I think making this as more of Sam's "Winter Soldier" might be what the character needs. There are a lot of mixed opinions on whether Sam can fill Steve's shoes, so we need a movie that's focused on him actually being Captain America and what he brings to the table. Before Winter Soldier, people weren't completely sold on Steve Rogers being this badass character, either. He was a bit too campy in Avengers and his limitations were felt. Winter Soldier got everyone rethinking him, and it built to his ultimate moment fighting Thanos in Endgame.

We've seen Sam as Captain for all of like 10 minutes.

Bruce wayne is batman. Clark kent is superman. And steve rogers is captain america. Got nothing about being an african American because the same goes for spawn, black panther, war machine and cage.
TheMetaMan
TheMetaMan - 5/3/2024, 12:22 PM
@Batmandalorian - There is flaw in your argument because some of those characters have additional identities attached to them. Clark isn’t the only one who’s been superman, Bruce isn’t the only person to call himself batman and you’ve seen Wakanda forever. Shuri became the Black Panther. I’m just pointing out that in the comics, some characters do go through such transitions in identity. Colossus becoming juggernaut and Doc Ock becoming Spider-Man as of late. Also Isasiah Bradley was conically Captain America therefore Wilson’s appointment as Captain America is justified. Sub-textually this is about you having an issue with an African American playing Captain America but that’s your problem, no one else’s. Everyone else is content even if you are not.

@TheMetaMan - actually no i have a problem with doc ock as spider man and shuri and so on. They could have got bucky to be captain America and i wouldn't have like that either. So stop trying to start sh!t.

It's easier for you to paint someone with one if your "ism" labels than it is to just acknowledge the simple fact that someone else doesn't agree with your perspective.

Doesn’t sound too far off from Captain America: The Winter Soldier, as far as the conflict they’re putting Sam through, though with the higher level of President instead of Alexander Pierce. And thinking of the story that way so far, with Samuel Sterns filling the Hydra antagonist role, I can get jiggy with it!

@TheBlueMorpho - I think it's better if Sam goes first. Steve -> Bucky -> Sam would be a major downgrade strength wise.

This way I think it offeres the perfect opportunity for Sam to give up the shield and return to be Falcon after 1/2 movies

But personally there is only one true Captain America and his name is Steve Rogers.

“The action in this movie is incredibly exciting because this is a guy who can break, this is a guy who can bleed.“

and this, by far, is the most compelling aspect of this film. No super soldier concoction. None of that extra shit. A real man: a leader. Hand picked and chosen for his heart and morality, going against the odds.

Incredible character development for Sam. Went from side quest to main mission. And is tasked with the most difficult mission yet: assemble the avengers in a world that has lost faith in heroes.

Perfectly placed chess piece 👌🏾 Steve’s choice is constantly reflected in how Sam moves. He made the right call.
