Do You Have What It Takes To Become A CBM Contributor?

Have you ever thought about writing for CBM? Did you know that the platform used by and its sibling sites are all based off of content from users like you?!

Two of the most common questions I receive related to the site are; "How do I become a writer for the site?" and "Why don't you replace *this* writer?" This, despite the disclaimer at the bottom of every post that states, in part "This post was submitted by a user who has agreed to our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. As a user-generated content platform..."

The long and short of it is that the BLS Network of sites, which currently consists of,,,,,,,, isn't like other sites. There is no editorial team per se, as you find with most other online outlets. The vast majority of content is created by users just like you.

Let's jump back in time for a very brief history lesson that will more fully explain this... You see, back in 2003, when Best Little Sites came into existence. At the time, one of the first web sites that we launched was At the time it was like many of the other news outlets finding their way online. The difference was that we made the conscious decision to focus on what WE loved - Comics and Comic Book Movies.

The issue that we found is that keeping up with all of the news and content was almost impossible for a small team, especially with how popular CBMs were becoming.

To combat this, in 2008 we opened up the site and made it a user-generated platform. This allowed anyone and everyone that took the time to register for an account to not only participate in the community by commenting on articles and posts by other users, but it also allowed users to contribute and share content themselves! Some of the most prolific writers in the BLS network of sites are regular users just like you who decided to start sharing their passion for the nerd culture that we all know and love.

With all of that in mind, I'd like to answer some recurring questions that I receive from users:

How can I become an editor for the site?

As explained above, there are no editors. Anybody and everybody that registers for an account can contribute content to the sites (think of it like YouTube, but for articles). If you would like to contribute, simply register for an account and confirm your email address! Once confirmed, you'll find a "Articles" tab in the members area. This is where you can contribute content, whether it be news, an interview, a review, etc.. If you can imagine it, and think that others will be interested in it, feel free to share it!

Note that you should review and familiarize yourself with the Community Guidelines, as well as Quality and Content Guidelines. These will set your posts up for success and answer many of the questions you may have when you begin.

How do I get my content to appear on the homepage?

All content, regardless of who posts it, appears on he main "News" page and other secondary site pages (category pages, etc.). Users who both contribute regularly and show that they can follow the content and quality guidelines (i.e. they include a nice banner image, share content that users are genuinely interested in, etc.) can have their account permissions updated to allow their content to be posted directly to the homepage. This generally leads to more users seeing, reading, and commenting on your content.

Can I earn money with my content?

Do you recall earlier when I mentioned that you can think of our platform like YouTube, but for articles? That also extends to the ability to earn money with your content! We are able to do this through our Contributor Partner Program. The Contributor Partner Program takes a portion of the advertising revenue earned by the site and shares it with the users who are accepted into the program proportionately based upon how popular their content is!

Noe that there are specific requirements to be a part of our Contributor Partner Program, including following the Community Guidelines, Terms of Service, Content & Quality Guidelines, as well as strict rules regarding copyright and trademark complaints.

If you're interested in joining our Contributor Partner Program, you can learn more by visiting our Contributor Partner Policies & Guidelines page, which includes additional information and details on how to receive an invitation to the program!

Ah well let me write the uh, great content fan service of this site.

uh "Hailee Steinfield, mentions that she hurt her left butt cheek on set"

Coupled with the yahoos that will flock to my subtle political statements and fill the comment section with drivel, I will be millionare.

@Unconforming - Sounds like something for picture gallery...
UGLYsonic - 6/17/2022, 3:16 PM
@NateBest - I've been considering trying to jump on board because there is always huge news stories breaking in the wrestling world, especially in the past few months, that don't get covered here unless Josh sees boobs involved lol

But the amount of time I'd need to work on them would take up all my free time when I'm not working, and im not sure the site gets enough traffic to turn reporting into my full time job. I live in California and the cost of living is ridiculous.

But I've been debating it.
NateBest - 6/17/2022, 3:21 PM
@UGLYsonic - To be honest, it really depends on what you're reporting on and how quick you are with it... At the beginning it can be a little slow learning the tools, but it speeds up. For example I can usually have a post created from start to finish in under 10 minutes, especially if it's something that I'm familiar with.

TRR is interesting because it does OK with traffic, despite not having much content posted as of late. As contrary as it might seem, the boob posts actually result in less traffic than regular news/headlines...

Let me know if you do post and I'll take a look and can give you some tips if you need them ;)
bkmeijer1 - 6/17/2022, 3:22 PM
@UGLYsonic - I think you should give it a try. Maybe start with one article a week and if you like, try to increase that number.

As you write more and more, you'll get better at it and it will become more easy. Could tag me once you've uploaded it, and I'll give it a read and some feedback if you want.
UGLYsonic - 6/17/2022, 3:22 PM
@NateBest - ok, thank you Nate. I may dip my toes in the water by posting on my days off. I appreciate the feed back.
UGLYsonic - 6/17/2022, 3:23 PM
@bkmeijer1 - thanks Bk. I'll take you up on that when I do!
bkmeijer1 - 6/17/2022, 3:19 PM
I wonder if this means we'll be getting quality content (according to some users) now. Especially if they follow up on that second question in this article.

I'm just gonna say it: I think Josh is a great contributor. I see a lot of users shit on him, but I don't see them doing anything (i.e. writing tons of articles that drive discussions).
TheWalkingCuban - 6/17/2022, 4:55 PM
@bkmeijer1 - agreed but having haters is in itself a form of flattery. They can’t all be right.

Can they?

Ahem, anyway Josh is A-OK! 👌🏾
bkmeijer1 - 6/17/2022, 5:46 PM
@TheWalkingCuban - they're just jealous. Pity is hard to get, but envy is easy
TheWalkingCuban - 6/17/2022, 5:56 PM
@bkmeijer1 - hey you know what would be cool man, keeping up with box office. Look I’m a borrower. I don’t outright plagiarize. However I do look at sources and then make other connections. Don’t we all? “NO!” Okay sorry Scott Mendelson from Forbes! But like, Top Gun is on a cbm squashing roll. That’s noteworthy!
bkmeijer1 - 6/17/2022, 6:08 PM
@TheWalkingCuban - I'll admit I'm not as thorough as you are, but box office is definitely interesting. I ain't stopping you from writing full (analytical) articles. I'd even encourage you
TheWalkingCuban - 6/17/2022, 7:01 PM
@bkmeijer1 - that would be too fun man, too fun, I’m in!
Fogs - 6/17/2022, 3:27 PM
Nate, you know I love the site. And I'd love to write again but my experience of people stealing articles turned me off completely, including the will to write reviews. Sorry about the whining but maybe the need for contributors you have now might have something to do with more users having the same type of experience in the past.
NateBest - 6/17/2022, 4:08 PM
@Fogs - There's not really any ability to "steal content" as everyone has access to the same tools and pages (i.e. the "Articles" page in the members area)... None of the contributors have admin access ;)
Fogs - 6/17/2022, 4:13 PM
@NateBest - Sorry. I mean "deleting mine and replacing with theirs".
NateBest - 6/17/2022, 4:19 PM
@Fogs - Yep, we're on the same page. I think I addressed this in one of my comments further down the page...
Fogs - 6/17/2022, 4:22 PM
@NateBest - \o/
TheHumanSpider2 - 6/17/2022, 3:32 PM
90% of the articles come from Josh or Mark, about time you decided to bring some new blood, Nate!

PS: nothing against Mark or Josh, just stating that 90% of the content in the whole site is being made by just two people, am I banned?
