I'm still shocked that Universal was willing to pony-up over $170 Million to a first time director.

Wondrous creature designs but such a under par film.

I thought the movie was okay. Wouldn't sit through it again but it wasn't completely horrible just kind of 'meh'. I loved the monsters though.

The movie could have been better if they fleshed out the fantasy or ditched it altogether. Overall not the worst film but suffered from a bunch of flaws.

So sad and what's worse is, it's true for the most. Hell, America will barely even support a film cast of all non-White Americans yet. It's really a shame too because this type of cinematography and CGI would have killed in a big screen adaptation of a Inuyasha, Princess Mononoke, and/or, Ninja Scrolls. You can't convince me that an Ang Lee directed Princess Mononoke film wouldn't be amazing. But, I just hope I get to see the manga/anime adaptation boom in my lifetime. Gas is running out on the remakes and CBMs have proven there is a market for the superhero genre. It'll likely still be a few more years before anyone will touch them again with the Dragon Ball: Evolution debacle. But, if Hollywood can't/won't do them justice and respect the source, I'd rather they be left alone.
