Wondrous 47 RONIN Creature Designs

Carl Rinsch's samurai-fantasy-adventure film, 47 Ronin didn't do all that well at the box office, but that shouldn't stop us from enjoying some striking concept art created by Daren Horley.

Keanu Reeves makes an explosive return to action-adventure in 47 Ronin. After a treacherous warlord kills their master and banishes their kind, 47 leaderless samurai vow to seek vengeance and restore honor to their people. Driven from their homes and dispersed across the land, this band of Ronin must seek the help of Kai (Reeves)—a half-breed they once rejected—as they fight their way across a savage world of mythic beasts, shape-shifting witchcraft and wondrous terrors. As this exiled, enslaved outcast becomes their most deadly weapon, he will transform into the hero who inspires this band of outnumbered rebels to seize eternity.

47 RONIN was directed by Carl Rinsch, from a screenplay written by Chris Morgan and Hossein Amini. The cast includes: Keanu Reeves, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tadanobu Asano, Rinko Kikuchi and Ko Shibasaki. The film will be released on December 25, 2013. Merry Christmas, dude!

I'm still shocked that Universal was willing to pony-up over $170 Million to a first time director.

It may not have been the original story but it was a entertaining fantasy adventure adaptation re-imagined and the the visuals were sumptuous.

Refreshing to see a fantasy adventure without screwball humor forced into every dramatic sequence like most Hollywood flicks and zero comic relief. 6.5/10

I thought the movie was okay. Wouldn't sit through it again but it wasn't completely horrible just kind of 'meh'. I loved the monsters though.

Movie wouldn't have been as good without the demon creatures and stuff. Those made for better entertainment.

The movie could have been better if they fleshed out the fantasy or ditched it altogether. Overall not the worst film but suffered from a bunch of flaws.

"Its a reminder that Hollywood doesn't believe America will watch a film with an all-Asian cast."

So sad and what's worse is, it's true for the most. Hell, America will barely even support a film cast of all non-White Americans yet. It's really a shame too because this type of cinematography and CGI would have killed in a big screen adaptation of a Inuyasha, Princess Mononoke, and/or, Ninja Scrolls. You can't convince me that an Ang Lee directed Princess Mononoke film wouldn't be amazing. But, I just hope I get to see the manga/anime adaptation boom in my lifetime. Gas is running out on the remakes and CBMs have proven there is a market for the superhero genre. It'll likely still be a few more years before anyone will touch them again with the Dragon Ball: Evolution debacle. But, if Hollywood can't/won't do them justice and respect the source, I'd rather they be left alone.

These creatures look like something you'd find in the Spirit World of Avatar: The Last Airbender... which is cool.
