POWER RANGERS Cast Talks Alpha 5, Easter Eggs, & The Future; Plus A Possible Update On The Green Ranger

Save for some Marvel/Netflix fireworks late at night, the cast of the new Power Rangers reboot - Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Ludi Lin, and Becky Gomez - dominated most of San Diego Comic-Con's first day with multiple appearances over the course of the long summer day, including three very informative interviews with The Nerdist, MTV, and Comic-Con HQ as well as a massive party to close out the night. The jury's still out on whether we'll see a trailer by the end of the weekend or at Power Morphicon next month, but regardless, we have a ton of new and exciting details about the upcoming film.

The first of the three interviews was the most revealing as they divulged a number of details, most important of which was confirmation that the Rangers' trusty robot companion Alpha 5 would be appearing sporting a brand new design. They also confirmed another rumor, admitting that the film will include its very own updated version of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers theme song. Additionally, they tease a handful of classic MMPR Easter eggs placed within that fans of the original series will enjoy as well as small details that will help set up potential future installments and the larger universe.

We also hear a bit about Elizabeth Banks' "delicious" take on Rita Repulsa, which director Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) describes as perfect, considering how evil and psychotic the role requires her to be. The cast shared the same sentiment, adding that her presence helped elevate their own individual performances. They also expressed their excitement on working with Bryan Cranston, who just completed filming his scenes about four days ago.

As for the film's surprising tone, Israelite admitted that it'll be considerably more dramatic than many are expecting as each of the five Rangers will be seen dealing with their own internal struggles, but he does add that there will be plenty of fun to be had with comedic beats spread throughout. He says the Rangers' ability to unite and persevere through the harshest of circumstances is the true heart of the movie.

Check out videos of the cast interviews below and keep scrolling for some potential info on the Green Ranger!

On another note, thanks to the Power Coin reveal at Comic Con's Preview Night on Wednesday, which showcased the Tyrannosaurus (Red), Saber-Toothed Tiger (Yellow), Triceratops (Blue), Pterodactyl (Pink), and Mastodon (Black) Power Coins with their respective dinozords peeking out through the color in the center, we may have learned something very important about the Green Ranger and it's something we may have subconciously known for months or at least was revealed to us a while back.

In set photos posted earlier this year, we caught multiple looks at Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa in her amazing, highly detailed green battle armor and in her more rugged brown witch outfit, but revisiting them today, you may notice something very interesting sitting right smack dab in the center of her golden staff:

Yeah, unless our eyes are deceiving us, that is the Dragon Power Coin, i.e. the Green Power Coin, which would mean Rita Repulsa is the Green Ranger, at least for now. It would probably be best to label this as an educated guess, but, if you look at her suit and compare it to the costumes worn by the Pink & Yellow Rangers, it's a near identical match, save for the exposed skin. It's yet-to-be seen why Rita's morph turned out so different compared to the five core Rangers, but there are rumors circulating that the Green Power Coin may be cracked and/or her descent into evil may have caused the transformation to alter in a wicked way.

So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

I'm probably more excited for this than I should be due to childhood nostalgia, but I really do hope this is good
