Disney Announces LITTLE MERMAID Remake with Alan Menken And Lin-Manuel Miranda Attached

Believe it or not, Disney is remaking yet another one of their animated features. This time, it's the 1989 classic, The Little Mermaid. Not only that, there will be new songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken, the latter having worked on the original film.

The original Little Mermaid, released back in 1989 is still considered by many as a Disney classic. So it comes  to no surprise that, in their recent obsession with remaking their old features, that Little Mermaid is getting the live-action treatment as well. Adding it to the long line of upcoming Disney remakes such as MulanDumboPinocchioPeter PanThe Sword In The Stone, and Night On Bald Mountain. While we have no word on who's directing, writing, or starring in the film, we already have some people attached. Marc Platt is a producer on the film, as is Hamilton creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Miranda, who is a self-proclaimed fan of the animated film, has recently been working with Disney. He's writing the songs for the upcoming Moana and will be starring in Mary Poppins Returns, a sequel to the 1964 film. However, Miranda isn't just producing. He will also be a story supervisor and he will be writing new songs along with Alan Menken. Menken is well-known for his music, included in Little Shop of HorrorsSausage Party, and a number of Disney films. One of them being the '89 Little Mermaid film, where we worte the music with his late great lyricist, Howard Ashman. Along with these new songs, Menkin and Ashman's songs from the original movie will appear.

Like with Disney's Jungle Book, this won't be the only big-budget Little Mermaid film. Universal has been planning a Little Mermaid film for a while now, with Chloe Moretz and Electrick Children director Rebecca Thomas attached. However, while not everyone may welcome a remake of the Disney film with open arms, the more recognizable characters and songs may spell trouble for the Universal project.

So, what do you think. Is this a good idea? Are you tired of Disney remakes? And what are your thoughts on Miranda and Menken handling the music? Comment below.

@MikeNolan - Aladdin is the only necessary remake (it maay help integrate islam to western culture) but Disney doesn't have the balls to make it.

Disney should focus on the stuff that people care about like Infinity War and animated shit instead of this thing...

@MikeNolan - Disney has about 5major studies. Marvel Studios, Lucas Films, Disney Animation, Pixar and Disney Pictures so ya they have the top two studios so your animation shit is covered.
People care a bout this stuff, do you have a young daughter? I don't but I have about 3 sisters and I just told them about this they went nuts, I am in Africa by the way.

Not surprised at all. I think they're literally remaking every one of their animated movies. It's only a matter of time before Lion King gets announced.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - The Lion King has been a hit on Broadway for years, so why wouldn't Disney make a live-action film version? That's money in the bank, and they wouldn't even have to pay the animals.

Interesting, I wonder how they're going to approach this one. Remake it or change some major aspects of the movie like they did with Maleficent.
