After a year of concept art, promo art, presentations at D23 Expo, and small snippings of footage on Disney Channel, we have our first offical teaser trailer for Moana, the second Walt Disney Animation Studios film to be released in 2016. The trailer was uploaded on YouTube today... only to be blocked for unknown reasons. However, TheFimStage.com has the trailer unblocked on PlayWire. Take a look:
Like Tangled and Frozen before, the marketing seems to focus more on the comedy, at least the first half of this teaser. It makes more sense in this trailer than the trailers for the previous two, since when you have a big name like Dwayne Johnson (who has recently been dubbed "Franchise Viagra") in the movie to draw in moviegoers, one would want to show off his character. We also get some new details we didn't know before. Maui is seen turning into an animal, and judging my this teaser, there might be one or two 2D animated sequences. Although, I'm not sure if the shot with the young Moana walking in a parting ocean hints at her having magic or not. We also have a new still down below.
So what you think of this teaser? Are you interested in seeing the movie? Does the teaser change your thoughts on this? Comment below.
Moana is directed by Ron Clements & John Musker (Aladdin, The Little Mermaid) and is written by Clements, Musker, Jared Bush (Zootopia), Pamela Ribon (Samantha Who?), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok). The film features the voices of Auli'i Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson, Philipa Soo, and Alan Tudyk and songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton). Moana will be released on November 23, 2016.
