Ahead of the release of Ant-Man on DVD and Blu-ray next month, check out some more concept art from Andy Park. Like the last piece, this design is apparently one Marvel considered using for the character, but Park says he's glad they went with the look they did. This is by far the most out-there concept we've seen for Scott Lang's Ant-Man costume yet, but there is something kind of cool about it. What do you guys think?

I, too, am glad they went with the look they did.

I respect the very obviously ant-inspired aesthetic. Sort of carapace and mandible thing going on. But it's ultimately too literal. Spiders don't have big eyes like Spider-Man does. Even so, big eyes have become definitively Spider-Man-esque.

This is sort of perfect, actually. Marvel just absolutely nailed Ant-Man and Iron Man in their first movies. Actually, I'd say Marvel does their best job with the first incarnations, but then in the sequels they feel the need to "improve" things, and often just devolve into "new Coke" versions when the earlier ones were better.

I would agree with your statement concerning "Marvel's first incarnations", however would like to point out that Captain America: The Winter Soldier was a much better movie based on tone, story and his constume compared to Captain America: The First Avenger. However, that is just my opinion.

I haven't had a chance to see Ant-man yet but I have heard it was a lot of fun.

I watched the movie opening weekend and enjoyed the heck out of it, but there was a little pang of sadness as I was certain the movie would not be a hit, and therefore no sequel would be made to close the open story threads.

I'm so glad it did well, and that Marvel did not treat it as a write-off in the wake of the Edgar Wright fiasco. But most of all I'm happy to be seeing another movie which will explore the Wasp (and probably Janet and Hank too).

Not bad for a movie with perhaps the least marketable superhero premise of the last few years.

One of the good things about Captain America is that every one of his costumes shows instantly who made it and why.

Original: Completely non-functional propaganda costume by a half-assed Senator's office with zero input by Steve.

Soldier Uniform: Steve's functional design made with WWII textiles.

Avengers: Somewhat functional costume by SHIELD geeks who tried to recapture the propagandistic simplicity of the original. Again, with zero input from Steve.

Special Ops: Steve's functional design made with modern textiles.

Museum Reconstruction: A rough approximation of the suit from the war.

Age of Ultron: Clearly designed by Stark with upgraded material and made to look like a "cool version" of Cap's traditional costumes, with darker colors and aggressive lines.

Each one tells a story of where Cap is at this point in his life and often who's influencing him. I didn't really think about it like that before now, but I actually really like that now. If only there was a similar story for what's been going on with Thor's costume...

Gah, I've been looking at all the Marvel Hot Toys and I'm amazed at how much design, redesign, redesign work has gone into all these variations over a very few number of years. Especially the Iron Man 3 suits. They didn't just do a few paint jobs, in many cases the entire suit looks like it's been redesigned from scratch over and over again.

I'm usually not a money or possession driven person, but I want the entire collection of these figures so bad it actually hurts... ...ow....
