Pixar Interested in Making Marvel's Ant-Man Movie

Hey, now here's some promising news about the Disney/Marvel merger! According to EW, Pixar has expressed interest to their Disney masters that they would like to make Marvel's Ant-Man movie
I got my Entertainment Weekly Magazine today, and there it was on page 23...

Marvel has thousands of characters to feed Disney's film, TV, and animation business (Pixar is said to already be eyeballing an Ant-Man movie). As Iron Man proved, they don't need to be iconic to become blockbusters.

Ant-Man does seem right down Pixar's alley, although audiences might be a little tired of all the tiny characters they've already done (Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo). Let's just hope that they don't rehash another Disney movie and call it Honey, I Shrunk Myself.

well would they be able to use this as an introduction to later put him in the avengers or would they have to make another live action one
NJdevil12 - 9/4/2009, 10:59 PM
Da** you NJdevil12 i almost had firsties
Fartman - 9/4/2009, 10:59 PM
They could mix cgi animation with live action. That would be cool. But make the backgrounds more realistic like honey I shrunk the kids.
DDD - 9/4/2009, 11:03 PM
well, Pixar is making a live action film soon so lets see how that goes :) other than that, Pixar never EVER dissapoints
CaptainAmerica - 9/4/2009, 11:05 PM
I like the idea of Ant Man or Giant man in Avengers, but I gotta wonder how well an Antman solo movie would really do.
I mean, I would certainly watch it but I don't know anyone else that would lol
DarthMulder - 9/4/2009, 11:37 PM
Hank Pym aka Ant-Man was at times a paranoid alcoholic who many times verbally abused his wife and at least one time assaulted her. He is also known for shooting defeated villains in the back when the fight was over. He is a very troubled and complex superhero that Pixar should never touch. They won't do it right, it will be just some lame brightly colored childish fantasy of a man with ant like powers. Let them make more Incredibles (as bad as that was) and leave Marvel alone.

Yes I said Incredibles was bad. It was shallow childish drivel-a waste of superhero cinematic potential.
venkman9993592 - 9/4/2009, 11:55 PM
Not a good idea, I would have Hank Pym in the Avengers as a working scientist for Shield. There is already too much involved with how the Avengers interact with each other. Save the ant, or Giant Man for Avengers 2.
ASSASSIN666 - 9/5/2009, 12:33 AM
They havent let me down yet, every pixar movie has been wonderful. Im excited to see what they come up with if they get it.
theartofoneness - 9/5/2009, 12:33 AM
I just want the damn movie made. If pixar does it they need to respect the character's maturity as venkman said. Pym is my favorite so I hope it does get made, but having it turn out to be a piece of garbage would be upsetting. I enjoy pixar, i'm just not sold they can do anything adult yet.
MarvelStudios - 9/5/2009, 12:57 AM
Pym as venkman said has many problems, on top of the domestic violence with his wife, there is the guilt he feels for making Ultron. Ultron no matter how many times he is laid to waste always comes back bigger and stronger and ready to completely dominate the world. Think how you would feel with the knowledge that you potentialy created an unstoppable foe that is supposed to eventually end the world.
MidKnight35 - 9/5/2009, 3:31 AM
Hang on does it say that ironman is not an iconic figure? only for people who havent read a marvel comic, ever!
wards - 9/5/2009, 4:30 AM
I think that's what they meant. Everyone just knows who Superman and Batman are. Your average person didn't know who Iron Man was until the movie.
ViperXX79 - 9/5/2009, 5:42 AM
I could see this happening!!!!

They better not turn it now from LIVE ACTION to Animated!!

Ive got nagging feeling it will be!!! Damn they better not lol, im looking forward to ANT-MAN!

If its light hearted still like its supposed to be but not a comedy, SIMON PEGG should still do it! ; D

LEEE777 - 9/5/2009, 5:48 AM
If any marvel property should be done in Pixar its Antman. Dont care for Antman but he Pixar film about him actually sounds pretty cool.
Shadowelfz - 9/5/2009, 6:11 AM
Hey LEEE I don't know if Ant Man could hold his own movie, so few people are familiar with him outside the comic genre. I really think he should be introduced in the Avengers as Hank Pym, and then have him become Ant Man or Giant Man in the sequel. Avengers 2 would be a great launching pad for him and Black Panther, and Hawkeye. These characters deserve some detail and development that the first movie just wouldn't allow
ASSASSIN666 - 9/5/2009, 6:14 AM
who would watch a film about someone called ant-man? except the fanboys i mean
Denn1s - 9/5/2009, 6:22 AM
Exactly my point, look how much money was sank in to both Hulk films only to show modest returns. The whole world knows who and what the Hulk is, but the whole world didn't fork over their money the way they did for Spiderman, or Iron Man who not to disrespect him but was a secondary Marvel hero until the movie hit big. Ant Man would be far worse off then both Hulk films in terms of revenue. It would be best to stick him in Avengers and see if the character develops a word of mouth response that Marvel could make something of.
ASSASSIN666 - 9/5/2009, 6:36 AM
ASSASSINS you've got a great point dude! An AVENGERS will most probably be BIG, it could be a better time to bring it out after the movie, you could be right, damn i hope PIXAR don't F it up an turn animated! As for BLACK PANTHER and HAWKEYE cool idea! ; )

Denn1s @ Who would watch a movie called BITCH MOUNTING, i mean WITCH lol, the ansewr is A LOT of ppl! Especially if it does infact go to the light hearted approach like their gonna!
LEEE777 - 9/5/2009, 6:37 AM
antman has a lot of darkness to his and his wife's tale and stated above...he cant be done by disney...its that simple
Anil Rickly - 9/5/2009, 6:56 AM
LEEE- Hell yeah, I want to see more Avengers brought in the way X-2 and X-3 brought in more mutants, except I want to see Panther, Hawkeye, Giant Man, and Wasp rip up the screen and get the full attention they deserve. I don't want them on the back burner, I want them on the front lines with the rest of the team. Maybe you can make a list, or a casting of possible antagonist that the Avengers could take on.
ASSASSIN666 - 9/5/2009, 6:57 AM
ASSASSIN @ Heck yeah, these characters need more justice than being put on the back burner for favorites!

I really do hope though ANT-MAN and WASP are included in the AVENGERS movie, they are the ORIGINAL Avengers!!!

BLACK WIDOW should stay in IRON MAN not Avengers, welll not for a sequel anyway lol, an as much as i love WAR MACHINE he better not turn up in AVENGERS too lol. Too early.

ASSASSIN @ good idea on that list thing dude! ; )
LEEE777 - 9/5/2009, 7:02 AM
@Venkman
It (The Incredibles) was a childish movie BECAUSE it was aimed at children. Sorry it wasnt a bunch of High Headed esoteric gobbledy gook like the Matrix. A KIDS MOVIE, Nimrod. For Kids. Jeeez , Moron.
Skyh00k - 9/5/2009, 7:08 AM
It would probaly do better as a cartoon than live action(but with no connection with the rest of the movie canon)

btw-patrick wilson for hank pym!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NightAvenger4 - 9/5/2009, 7:27 AM
The problem with Ant-Man is his name. Anyone who is not familiar with the character or non-comic people will think ANT...MAN? It would sound goofy to them.
Truthfully it's not an inspiring name.
texasboy - 9/5/2009, 8:03 AM
so there gonna make ant man a cartoon? so much for non interference. this is the end. after the deal with paramount is over all the marvel movies will be complete kiddy bullshit!
Scuzz - 9/5/2009, 8:08 AM
And it begins.
Bandrews1 - 9/5/2009, 8:24 AM
I think it could go either way good or bad. LEEE, how do you go about framing those pictures like that 2 in 1 frame?
Hawksblueyes - 9/5/2009, 8:35 AM
Hawkblueeyes @

Come to VOTE FOR LOBO ARTICLE an i'll tell you! ; D

Luv the WOLVIE MOUSE pic lol!
LEEE777 - 9/5/2009, 8:54 AM
You know who would watch a film called Ant-Man?

Kids.

Which equals to...

$$ Profit. $$
LexLuthor - 9/5/2009, 9:15 AM
And Ant-Man sucks. Don't know a single Ant-Man fan...
LexLuthor - 9/5/2009, 9:17 AM
BOOOOOOOOOOORING!!!!

Ant Man? Why in the hell waste money on this non-interesting character? Just take the money as a check, wipe and flush.

Dull, dull, dull, dull. Just do an animated version for the four or five Ant Man fans out there and get it over with already.

Jeez. WAY too much crack being smoked in Hollyweird.
bropous - 9/5/2009, 9:20 AM
Actually,I always disliked Ant Man.I never understood the concept of Giant Man either, why make yourself a huge target against villans with every sorta power ray and laser at thier disposal. In my opinion Yellowjacket was always a pretty cool concept. His size gave him stealth, he had his disruptor bolts,he maintained the strength of his full size persona, and he could fly. That would be pretty cool if you ask me.
Hawksblueyes - 9/5/2009, 9:25 AM
@bropous---If Pixar makes it, the movie will make huge amounts of money just like every other one they make.
Hawksblueyes - 9/5/2009, 9:28 AM
@LEEE: Yeah, it better stay live-action. But, you picked the wrong actor, you're supposed to pick Michael Rappaport or Patrick Wilson!!!

@DDD: Good idea man!!!
TheCritic17 - 9/5/2009, 9:39 AM
The only reason why Hank Pym/Ant-Man has some fame amongst readers is because he beats his wife... (or he did) and has a Napoleon complex.
LexLuthor - 9/5/2009, 9:40 AM
maybe they should do giant man then
AvengingAngel1022 - 9/5/2009, 10:09 AM
Let Pixar make it I'd watch it. I do like the Giant Man idea better however.
longbowhunter - 9/5/2009, 10:17 AM
LONGBOW-I SOOOO AGREE, GIANT MAN WAAAAY BETTER, PLUS WAY MORE ACTION ORIENTED, WHO WANTS TO SEE A BITESIZE SHRIMP GUY FOR 2 HOURS LONG...NOOOOOOOO
GUNSMITH - 9/5/2009, 10:21 AM
ant-man the movie would suck testicles!
Duhdaduh - 9/5/2009, 11:22 AM
OUCH!!!!!!!!! testacle sucking ants?
Hawksblueyes - 9/5/2009, 11:28 AM
Guess I'll just say that this is not a movie I would see. To date, I STILL have not seen Catwoman nor Daredevil, and never will. Heck, I even watched the Roger Corman version of Fantastic Four and STILL would never see this movie.

Can't think of a single Pixar movie I've ever watched.

I'd rather see a lot of other Marvel characters with a dedicated movie than boring Ant-Man or Giant-Man. And, no, I would not be up for a Wasp movie, either. Nor Luke Cage, nor a stand-alone Black Widow movie, nor a stand-alone War Machine movie.

If they get the money dedicated to making an Ant-Man movie, then I see little reason for great hopes that Disney acquiring Marvel will not negatively affect the end product.

I really, really, really wish Disney had bought DC instead.
bropous - 9/5/2009, 11:30 AM
@LEEE777---I went over to your Lobo site and cast my vote like you asked about 7500 hours ago. How do you make those pics? LOL
Hawksblueyes - 9/5/2009, 11:31 AM
Ant-Man does NOT need his own movie. Just leave him for the Avengers franchise.

Patrick Wilson = Ant-Man
InTylerWeTrust82 - 9/5/2009, 11:55 AM
RAPPAPORT is a sh!Te actor!!! ; D

Hawks @ Look again man! ; )
LEEE777 - 9/5/2009, 12:24 PM
pixar could do zemo or the wrecking crew or frickin nova and it will be successful.
undeadpool - 9/5/2009, 1:03 PM
Patrick Wilson FTW!!!
CaptainAmerica - 9/5/2009, 2:07 PM
Patrick wilson for Hank Pym!
NightAvenger4 - 9/5/2009, 8:23 PM
I'm not opposed at all to stand alone Marvel/Pixar movies of any character whatsoever. If they don't try to integrate the continuity with the live action movies (even that COULD work, but it'd be walking on thin ice). It wouldn't be unlike the setup already in place with Marvel/Marvel animation, or Warner;DC/Warner;DC animation.

Obviously Pixar makes children's movies (some of which also appeal to broader audiences).

Pixar are geniuses to the inth degree, and I'd watch anything they put out.

However, like Bropus said, the only negative effect I could see it having is taking money away from the live action movies. Would I rather have a $400 million live action Avengers, or a $275 million Avengers, and a $125 million Pixar Ant Man?... lol, well I think most of you guys know the answer. The one problem with Pixar in my opinion is they spend SOOOO much money on advertising, like they even need to at this point. As District 9 demonstrated though, we are in the Golden Age of CGI.

And oh yeah Patrick Wilson for Hank Pym!
48and2 - 9/5/2009, 9:52 PM
hank pym as YELLOWJACKET was the hank pym that hit jan pym, his wife, not as antman. get your facts straight before you comment
bw - 9/5/2009, 11:43 PM
Lets be LOGICAL here people.

The fact is that a Live-Action version of Ant Man would SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKK

Oh, look, I have a million ants who listen to me!

The Alternative is a bad version of Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. Ooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I'm SOoooooooooooo impressed.

Please, you expect to put THAT next to Ed Norton's Hulk and Rbrt/ Downey's Iron Man. Don't make me sick.
DannyRand401 - 9/6/2009, 1:23 AM
@Skyh00k

Why are you comparing The Incredibles to The Matrix? That's a bit of a stretch. Secondly, a person is not a nimrod or a moron for disliking a childrens movie. A person may be one of those if they think a childrens animation company is going to do an adult story with justice. You Skyh00k might just be that nimrod or moron. And thanks for capitalizing nimrod and moron when you called me those, you better respect me, loser.
venkman9993592 - 9/6/2009, 2:33 AM
Ant Man is Lamo... i dont care , no ... not even in the slightest.
shibazz - 9/6/2009, 4:07 AM
i for one dont whant to see a ant-man animation movie i whant live acton if they do it in animation he wont be in the avengers movie and i cant have that death to disney if they do
thedarkknight666 - 9/6/2009, 5:25 AM
@ Venkman9993592

I regret my earlier remarks. Stooping to name calling doesn't help my argument. I was wrong to do so, please accept my sincere apology.

I was in a foul frame of mind at the time and its not fair to take out my frustrations on you or anyone for that.

Im sorry.

thedarkknight666 - 9/6/2009, 5:32 PM
Scuzz, your name implies what your head is full of if you honestly think an Ant-Man movie would EVER succeed in Live Action. I'm so glad to hear this, imagine the failure this movie would meet with in live action and how damaging that failure would be to future CBM development.

I think this is GREAT news. A character who'd have never seen the light of day as a main man stands a chance at grabbing the opportunity via Pixar. Thunderbolts and the Inhumans are also perfect candidates for this treatment, as well as the opportunity for Pixar to step beyond the G-rated mold they've created and move toward the PG-13, which at this point seems quite possible.
TheMyth - 9/6/2009, 6:41 PM
So Iron Man's not iconic, huh? I think they mean "Does not have his face printed on everything from lunchboxes to condoms."
slimybug - 9/6/2009, 8:19 PM
Skyhook, I was didn't care a bit for Venkman's comments either.
There are a lot of people that have that same horrible attitude, and I don't consider it worth replying to, much less getting upset about.
DarthMulder - 9/7/2009, 12:00 AM
@Skyh00k
eh I guess I apologize too. Damn acquisition has lots of people on edge. With all of Marvel's potential I'd hate to see their new financial resources going toward more Marvel Super Hero Squad and Iron Man Adventures type stuff, but whatever. They partnered with Disney and they will churn out whatever family friendly material they want because it brings in the bucks, and that's what companies are about.
venkman9993592 - 9/7/2009, 2:29 AM
I think Ant-Man is right for Pixar, think about it, a scientist that creates pym particles that make him small is no material for a superhero blockbuster, but if Pixar puts a lot of humor on it, interesting backgrounds and a good story they could make the character more relevant than ever. The only thing I hope is that they don’t use Ultron so he could be on the second or third Avenger movie.
Verdugo - 9/7/2009, 9:19 AM
I wouldn't say it's right but it can be adapted. If Pixar makes it they will strip away all the troubling aspects of Hank's superhero career and personality to make it family friendly. He's so much more than that. It's like if Pixar did Iron Man they would never touch on the fact that he's a womanizer and became an alcoholic, and those are key aspects to Stark's personality.
venkman9993592 - 9/7/2009, 11:17 AM
So if this is the case, I'm guessing we ain't gonna see Pym getting pissed and smacking his wife up and down. Lol, that'd be a good moral movie for the kids. If Pixar was smart, they'd keep this idea intended for teens and not for kiddy kids (which will just ruin anything else from there on for me).
BryEL - 9/7/2009, 4:39 PM
it better be live action then, it would suck if this was all animation
Ryden - 9/8/2009, 6:26 AM
it just couldnt be serious as a pixar movie....maybe like, Beowulf CGI but pixar? eh....maybe it will fail so bad, it will be a win. ;)
Fartman - 9/8/2009, 6:38 AM
PIXAR IT BETTER BE LIVE ACTION DAMMIT!!!

Heh, anyway perfect, if they set this up, he can be ANT-MAN in this then say right at the end he sorts out being GIANT MAN ready for AVENGERS!!!

GIANT MAN - HULK - THOR - HELL YEAH!!!
LEEE777 - 9/8/2009, 7:37 AM
They can have him.....Im a fan of Hank Pym for the most part, but AntMan is weak.
xmentheeight - 9/8/2009, 9:49 AM
like i said in an earlier post, rather see a lee/kirby fantastic four pixar flick. ant-man, no offense but no.
never thought the character could hold his own in a film anyway, avengers only. but meh what do i know
Boogie138 - 9/8/2009, 10:44 AM
Rather see Giant Man Movie.

@Boogie138 that is the greatest avatar I have seen in a while! I loved the Real Ghostbusters and the boogieman episodes were my fav!
icebergslick - 9/8/2009, 11:57 AM
THAT IS THE WORST IDEA I HAVE EVER HEARD OF!!!!! ANT-MAN IS SUPPOSED TO BE PART OF THE AVENGER SAGA AND LEAD INTO THE NEW AVENGERS MOVIE AND/OR HAVE HIS OWN MOVIE AFTER THE AVENGERS. THIS WHOLE IDEA WITH DISNEY AND MARVEL IS RETARDED. ANT-MAN NEEDS TO BE A LIVE ACTION FILM!!!!

bryanvman - 9/8/2009, 1:35 PM
@ icebergslick: thanx dude, real ghostbusters totally formed me into the being i am now, lawsuite pending... j/k

still think pixar could look into better properities not tied up with other studios
Boogie138 - 9/8/2009, 3:26 PM
Ant-man? Are you serious, I wouldnt even let my kid watch that Bullsh*t. Boycott marvel and bitchney..I mean disney
Blakestnight - 9/8/2009, 4:38 PM
Any and all Watchmen fans should check FanFic!!!!!
TheCritic17 - 9/8/2009, 5:04 PM
okay?

HOWLER16 - 9/8/2009, 5:17 PM
Who honestly cares about an antman/giant man movie? He's a boring character and slapping around your wife is hardly an interesting plot line. Who would pay to see two hours of him brooding over nothing. He's best when he's a light hearted foil to bruce banner.
thwhtGuardian - 9/8/2009, 5:18 PM
I don't mind this, but I have very little interest in Ant Man and I think the film would suck eggs. That said I don't think Ant Man will be as lucrative live action as it could potentially be with Pixar.

There would certainly be more money in merchandise because you can have a really excellent toy likeness of a Pixar character.

It might also help to break Ant-Man into the public conciousness prior to a live action film with that character. Or it might make the idea of an Avengers film laughable.
