At the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice premiere, DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns shared his excitement for Jason Momoa's Aquaman to make his DCEU debut. "It’s massive [seeing Aquaman on the big screen]. Jason [Momoa] and I were talking about Aquaman and I love that people underestimate the character. I feel like hopefully we’ll be able to share the love that we have as readers of the character because the jokes about him are fun, but he’s got so much depth to him, no pun intended. It’s really great to see him finally on the big screen."
Will the cinematic version of Aquaman have a meta-awareness of the larger public's perception of this character as being lame and useless? This was something present in Geoff's run on the comic book series which often resulted in some hilarious moments. At the same time, these moments were often followed by Aquaman doing something incredibly badass like showcasing his bulletproof skin or leaping 40 stories into the air. These moments served to show that anyone who underestimated the King of the Seven Seas did so at their own peril.
