Massive sales are of no surprise to anyone after The Dark Knight smashed box office records over the summer, which should easily send the DVD to number one for the week. However, projections show that Universals Mamma Mia! will take back the first place spot to close out the holiday season.

"The Dark Knight's outselling Mamma Mia! four to one this week and will very comfortably go to number one," Mr Castaldo explained.

"But it's likely Mamma Mia! will displace it the following week and return to the top spot as we believe it's going to be the number one DVD at Christmas."

Mamma Mia! sold 3 Million copies its first week in the U.S alone. Titanic still holds the all time top spot with six million copies sold in its first week.
