Cinematic History Of The Batsuit

Following the release of Zack Snyder's Batsuit, we look back on previous suits from Batman in film.

Today saw Zack Snyder reveal the heavily anicipated Batsuit from Batman vs Superman which is due to be released in May 2016.

Snyder teased an image of the new Batmobile via Twitter yesterday but blew away fans of the caped crusader by showing us Ben Affleck's Batman alongside the newest addition to the Dark Knight's collection.

With this in mind I quickly scowered the web to compare Syder and Affleck's suit to previous efforts from Christopher Nolan's to Tim Burton's.

In my opinion, which is by no means unanimous judging by many reader's comments, I think it looks good, but compare it to the suits below and make your own mind up!

BATMAN (1966)

BATMAN (1989)

Batman Returns (1992)

Batman Forever [Black] (1995)

Batman Forever [Light] (1995)

Batman & Robin (1997)

Batman & Robin [Ice] (1997)

Batman Begins (2005)

The Dark Knight & The Dark Knight Rise (2008 & 2012)

Batman vs Superman (2016)

So what do you guys think? Which is the best, which is the worst and above all what do you think of the Batsuit coming to the silver screen?

Feel free to hit me up on Twitter on @oscchamberlain, I'm a sports journalist so I'm usually rambling on about that but comic book news and views are of course included.

My faves are TDK and BvS

The two are equal to me because they perfectly represent where the Batmen were in their character arcs

i.e. TDK=rookie BvS=veteran

"...since he's really only Batman for about a year within the entire trilogy..."

The present-day scenes in Batman Begins (basically, the scenes where Bruce finally becomes Batman) takes place over a course of 6 months to a year, roughly a year passes between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight takes place over a course of many months. Then 8 years pass between TDK and TDKR, and I'm pretty sure Bruce goes on as Batman for some period of time after the ending shot of TDK, then he comes back in TDKR, which again takes place over several months. So no, he's been Batman for much longer than people like to give him credit for.

Also, I'm not sure that 1 year on the job makes Bruce a "veteran" in TDK. He's in his prime, sure, but I consider veterans to have 5-10 years of experience (at least, that's how it works in sports haha). He's a veteran in TDKR, maybe.

As for the actual article, I definitely have to list TDK Batsuit as my favorite. It just makes so much sense: armored, movable cowl, fully-functional cape, awesome logo. But Batfleck's suit is definitely growing on me as well. Just have to see it in action!

I forget the years '92 thru '97 for my own sanity.

Favourite was the BB suit. TDK suit lost that fearsome presence it's predecessor had and replaced it with a skinny-looking tech-ninja Bats that was more concerned with looking to reverse out of the garage ^^ - I hated the way the fearsome presence was lost. This new Miller-esque design recaptures that fearsome edge. Lovin' it.

@AlphaAndDecima, I'm almost 90% sure we've had discussions on this before haha. You make valid points, but I still think it's a bit disingenuous to say that Nolan's Batman was only on the job for a year. A minimum of 1 year passes between BB and TDK (where he was obviously doing his Batman thing day in and day out), and add the time (whether it be weeks, months, a year, etc is still up for debate, I'll admit) that passed during the actual events of BB and TDK where he was obviously Batman, and at the very least it's a year and a few months. And all of that is without even considering TDKR. At the end of the day it's not a big deal, but still fun to talk about!

We all know what Bruce was really doing those 8 years between TDK & DKR.
