"Proto Versions" Of Killer Croc, Solomon Grundy, & Maybe Harley Quinn Are Coming To GOTHAM

It sounds like several members of the Suicide Squad could be paying a visit to Gotham sometime in the near future. Plus, Solomon Grundy is coming, and we have an update on The Joker!

At the Television Critics Association summer press tour today, Gotham executive producers Ken Woodruff John Stephens shed some light on the upcoming third season of the hit superhero prequel drama, revealing that the show will introduce Solomon Grundy at some point during the year. Stephens adds that Grundy's mythology and origin will have ties to both Hugo Strange's Indian Hill experiments and the mysterious Court of Owls.

The conversation shifted gears when the pair were directly asked whether or not any early incarnation of a Batman villain featured in Suicide Squad could make an appearance in TV's Gotham City. Stephens once again fielded the query and admitted it'd likely be difficult, especially with the characters having already made their big-screen debuts, but did share that there is a good possibility they introduce a "proto-version" of Killer Croc and "a forerunner of" Harley Quinn before all is said and done, strongly suggesting it would likely happen in a potential Season 4.

Speaking of a hypothetical fourth season, as viewers begin to make that transition from season three to four in the latter half of the upcoming season, they will start to see early indicators of the Joker's growing influence on Gotham as "the cult of the Joker" continues to expand even after Jerome's demise. Stephens teases: "It’s about developing the myth of The Joker, just like we’re developing the myth of Batman… There are underground movements where they talk about Jerome.

Well, it sounds like dark days are ahead for Jim Gordon and company. So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

The stakes are higher than ever as Gotham explores the origin stories of some of the most ambitious and depraved Super Villains, including The Riddler, The Joker and Mr. Freeze, and Bruce Wayne uncovers more secrets from his father’s past.

Gotham features:
Ben McKenzie as James Gordon
Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock
David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne
Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth
Morena Baccarin as Leslie Thompkins
Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin
Erin Richards as Barbara Kean
Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle
Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma/The Riddler
Chris Chalk as Lucius Fox
Drew Powell as Butch Gilzean
Jessica Lucas as Tabitha Galavan
Michael Chiklis as Nathaniel Barnes

Maggie Geha as Ivy Pepper/Poison Ivy
Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney
BD Wong as Hugo Strange

Gotham returns September 19

I was disappointed overall with how S2 developed. Grundy, however, sounds awesome. I'd even be happy to see pre-grundy Cyrus Gold gangster!

No, no, no! The problem with this prequel stuff is that they basically extend the characters' origins over the course of 10 more years or have them basically live their whole lives a certain way. I'm sure Dr. Quinzel won't be just any old rational girl proficient in sciences or something but will be going insane early in life.

On the other hand, Killer Croc, as an exception, is perfect for this format. As awful as it is to say, we could see the progression of his skin condition and his being pushed out of society, his slow embrace of an animalistic nature.

Shouldn't Solomon Grundy already be, you know, Solomon Grundy? Born in the 19th century, continuously reborn...just somewhat weaker than his "modern" (whenever Bruce becomes Batman) self?

Just give me a lot of screen time for Jessica Lucas and I'll watch.

I'm a cheap date, Gotham.

Like if the Killer Croc in the SS movie didn't look "proto" enough, with his tiny body and his big dumb head.

What bothers me about this "proto" bullshit is that it makes the characters we know into copycats. Jerome wasn't the Joker, he's just the inspiration for the Joker who came first. Hell, he probably won't even be the first to copy Jerome, as this "fore-runner" of Harley Quinn will like come from this Cult of the Joker inspired by Jerome.

Ugh... The fact that this show was conceived this way will forever bug me.

I wish this could time jump about 10 years. Overall, it's not bad. It has it's moments.

Not a DC fan but I liked this show. Season two showed some good development. Haven't seen 3 yet.
