'Alfred Pennyworth' Has A Surprising New Role In BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

In the comic books and previous Batman movies, Alfred has typically been portrayed as Bruce Wayne's butler, but that won't be the case in Batman v Superman. Hit the jump to find out what his role will be...

Lots of new Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice details have been revealed over the past couple of days, but among the most interesting is the role of Jeremy Irons' Alfred Pennyworth in the movie. According to WhatCulture.com, he won't be a butler, and was actually Thomas and Martha Wayne's bodyguard when they were killed. When the young Bruce decided to dismiss what was left of the staff in Wayne Manor, he kept Alfred around (who then became the youngster's legal guardian).

Now that Bruce is an adult, Alfred is his chief of security and lives on the grounds of Wayne Manor in what is described as a "comfortable trailer." He's also said to be a former SAS officer, so it's clear this is going to be a very different take on the character!

However, this does sound pretty similar to Batman: Earth One's Alfred so it's not that massive a departure from the source material. Meanwhile, Alfred's past experience with weapons, intelligence gathering, medicine, and piloting a variety of vehicles has all apparently come in handy to both train and help Batman in his crime fighting duties in Gotham. Sounds pretty cool, right? More details about the characters and weapons in Batman v Superman can be found by clicking on the source link below.

Really excited to see an Alfred with a military background in a live-action movie!

@EpitomeofAwesome - Sorry to be a douche correcter but Alfred did have a military background in The Dark Knight trilogy as well. He did the famous Dark Knight Speech about his time serving "Some men just want to watch the world burn"..

@patriautism - Hate to be an even bigger douche but The majority of all on screen Alfreds, had a miltary background. This may be the first that actually showcases the fact that he was in the war and has a military background, ya know, instead of just saying it happened.

That being said, we already have an alfred similar to this on Gotham but Gotham is horrible and can't be held up by one good character. We also had a very similar Alfred in Beware The Batman, but we all know what happened to that series.

I think Epitomeofawesome phrased his excitement wrong.

@patriautism - No don't be, you're totally right. I was just talking about having a movie that features his military background more prominently, I should have said it differently haha

@genesis609 - To be fair, butlers were technically stewards of the manor they worked at, so not a huge jump.
