BOX OFFICE: BATMAN v SUPERMAN Can't Beat THE BOSS And Falls To #2 In Third Weekend

Despite reports last week that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice would likely remain at #1 during its third week of release, the numbers are in and it's The Boss which have ended up triumphing...

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice narrowly missed out on the #1 spot this weekend, dropping to #2 in its third week of release. Melissa McCarthy vehicle The Boss earned an estimated $23.48 million compared to Batman v Superman's $23.43 million, so it was obviously a very tight race, but one which is unlikely to change by the time the final numbers come in tomorrow (some analysts have The Boss pegged as being in the lead by as much as $900,000).

Honestly, falling by such a narrow margin after three weeks is nothing to be ashamed of, especially as this new release has brought in the female viewers which Batman v Superman hasn't.

As of right now, the Zack Snyder helmed release has a worldwide total of $783.5 million. It should pass $800 million at some point this week, and it's now thought that it will ultimately end its run with a total of around $900 million. The only way Batman v Superman can crack $1 billion at this stage is if those rumours about the extended R-Rated version getting a theatrical release are accurate. We'll have to wait and see.
