Jesse Eisenberg Says BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DOJ Is Not A "Cartoonish Superhero Movie"

In past interviews, Eisenberg has sounded very positive when discussing Zack Snyder's follow up to Man Of Steel, and that continued when he sat down with Today to discuss the film. The Lex Luthor actor seems most pleased with the serious tone, calling the movie "phenomenal"...

Actors praising their own movies is not exactly news, but the always blunt and outspoken Jesse Eisenberg doesn't seem like the type of guy to blow smoke when it's not really necessary, so when he's said positive things about Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice previously without any prompting, people paid attention.

In the following video interview, he's at it again, claiming Chris Terrio has written his Lex Luthor as an "incredible character", and insisting that Zack Snyder's movie will be something fans will take very seriously.

"Yes, it is like the most incredible character. It was written by this guy, Chris Terrio. This is like his first movie after Argo. He's just this brilliant writer of characters. So this movie is not this kind of cartoonish superhero movie. It is very serious and well acted, well written, well directed movie. It's really phenomenal!"

That rumored "no jokes" policy in full effect? Maybe... but I, for one, am perfectly fine with that. Eisenberg has come across a bit negative about his whole superhero movie experience in the past (remember the SDDC being like "genocide" comments?) so it's nice to see him speak with such passion about the movie here. What do you guys think? Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters March 25, 2016

I was re-watching the SDCC trailer last night and it only just hit me that Jessie Eisenberg is playing a prominent villain in a Batman v Superman movie.

And he's sharing scenes with Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne.

Holy shit.

@misterbatman212

He's referred to the previous cartoonish portrayal of Luthor/Superman before in other interviews so that sounds likely.

Funny thing about the "No jokes" rumors - fans are always up in arms when people suggest that it might actually be a real policy...but from the way a lot of fans talk about humor in movies, deep down I'm convinced most fans would actually be thrilled if that were true.

I have faith in the writing, and somewhat, the direction, BUT NOT EISENBERG. Not sold on him as luthor at all. I don't want social network all over again

He would've been an amazing luthor

His performance in Road to Perdition showcased his stellar ability to play a villian. It was great. Law was sadistic, creepy and just unlikable. He would've killed it as Lex

Everybody thinks Wonder Woman or Batflek will steal the show in BvS. Lex got a best-actor nominee playing him , and imo, what we've seen in the trailer is pretty compelling.

"That rumored "no jokes" policy in full effect?"

I'd say no, considering that rumor was debunked quite a while back. Besides there were one or two jokes in the SDCC Trailer.

There's a level of insecurity if anyone feels offended by his cartoonish comments, and never take a judgement seriously when it suggests a differ with literally no context or slightest idea of how or where the filmmakers want to take the character - as an (amateur) filmmaker myself, there's no better feeling when you discover something fitting to your vision. It boils down to whether you'd be interested in the interpretation

I like Jess. It's easy to go for archetypes but to go for real world fear and a villain with bias, political and postmodern delusional and dense perspective is interesting.

Im still 50/50 on this movie. I absolutely hated MOS. And since the guy who wrote mos didnt write the final script for bvs i have some hope but i still dont like whats being done with supes. I actually wanna see this supes get killed off which i should not want cause hes the quintessential hero. If bens batman becomes my fav batman which looks like it might be ill be so pissed cause supes is such a pathetic person in this verse and not his true self.

Yeah because I'm going to take anything JESSE EISENBERG says seriously.

I'm usually optimistic with casting choices. I was okay with Afflek! Hell, back in the day I was open to Heath Ledger as the Joker and the same with Jared Leto as the Joker but even after two trailers and a few stills, I cannot see this guy as Lex Luthor. Such a waste.

ZACK SNYDER ON LUTHOR:
Zack Snyder said, "I don’t know. I think you’d just have to imagine like a combination of, you know, Richard Branson and Brad Pit I guess, mixed together."

I don't understand how Branson and pitt equals Eisenberg. This combination stated by Snyder seems to be someone who is a suave, attractive businessman, who is known for being adventurous as well. I don't get how that's Eisenberg.....

I'm excited for EVERYTHING in this flm accept luthor

MOS wasn't cartoonish either and it still sucked ass.

However, Jesse is a cartoon of a Lex Luthor. A Tiny Toon version of him.
