In their latest February issue, Empire Magazine had a chance to catch up and speak with director Zack Snyder about his upcoming DC film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In the interview Snyder went on to talk about how incredibly different Batman is to Superman. "It has been really fun using Batman as the answer to Superman, because he's not flying around and acting crazy. He's just driving around in his Batmobile, doing his Batstuff." While a character like Superman would require quite a bit of computer generated magic, a character as human as Batman can be done practically and Zack Snyder loved it. "We were able to do a lot of this practically," says Snyder. "Batman brings that back. Figuring out how to mix Batman's practical approach with Superman has been an awesome experience..."

Snyder goes on to say that he wanted the visual aspect of the film to be better, that he wanted to "up-the-ante" even stating that he shot much of the film using an IMAX camera and how interested he was to take a different approach, "I'm not sure how long those cameras are going to be around. But I have never shot digitally." What do you think about Snyder's comments about having Ben Affleck's Batman mostly using practical effects? Are you excited to see Batman do his Batstuff?

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters March 25th, 2016.

Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before. Starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, and Holly Hunter, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is directed by Zack Snyder, written by Chris Terrio from David S. Goyer's screenplay.

Yeah Batman should be 90% practical, because sometimes you need some effects on him, but he is a human who does human stuff.

Every other league member needs some kind of effects. Maybe not Aquaman AS much, but still.
Superman has heat vision, freeze breath, and can fly
Wonder Woman has super strength, and might have some more powers
Flash runs super fast
Green Lantern makes his constructions
Cyborg/Shazam both are CGI heavy characters (more so Cyborg in my opinion)

DC gonna need some pretty nice budget amirite

Just please don't disappoint us snyder, you got a lot riding on this film. If this sucks then we're all [frick]ed. Love me some Marvel, but this is one thing you just have to make a good movie, no a great movie. Everything i've heard so far makes me want to see this movie more and more. So Snyder......

It's odd that that's the one thing we've barely had a taste of. The one thing I knew I'd always be hyped to see in this movie was a Snyder-Batman ass kicking"

Even more so when you read this excerpt from an interview with Guillermo Grispo, BvS' fight choreographer:

"Now Batman it’s going to fight the way I’ve always dreamed seeing him fight… he’s a character so prepared in martial arts that you can do a lot of things with him, but filmmakers usually don’t go all the way with it. Even in the last Nolan movies the action scenes aren’t very good from a technical, martial arts point of view to things like choreography, filming, bad camera movements…

But hey, don’t get me wrong, Nolan is great, my hats off to him. He makes fascinating stories, but I think that he did not pay too much attention to the fights. Those are the kind of details that Zack, being so physical himself, loves preparing. I think there’s going to be a big difference when you see these Batman fights in comparison to the previous ones."

And speaking of Nolan, he mentions that he almost worked on The Dark Knight:

How was it to prepare the fights between Batman and Superman?

I was fascinated. I’m telling you, for me, I like both of the characters, but Batman I really love. In 2007 I almost worked on the second part of Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, but ultimately questions about the contract were not resolved and it all fell apart [se me cayo el mundo is idiomatic]. Luckily, afterwards Zack brought Batman into this project, making it an origin of the Justice League. Which means being in charge of the entire franchise and all the sequels that will be Zack’s next projects."

@LordHarryLatts

I like DC quite a bit. I just personally don't see any appeal in Superman and Batman fighting for longer than 10-30 seconds, so that's, you know, kind of a bad start for a movie like this. And from the sound of it I'm probably not going to like this Batman all too much in general (I think I'll like Alfred, though).

By now she's become the main attraction of the movie for me:

If Wonder Woman is the only thing that draws you to the movie, that's great. I hope she blows people away.

@Dandy - "Also, I don't get how most of Batman can be practical when the head of costumes said they built a practical Armored Batman, but they mostly used the CGI for scenes involving that costume."

Batman can be practical, despite his Armored Batsuit being CGI.

For example, Zod is NOT CGI, but Zod's suit, like the Armored Batsuit, is CGI:

The costume designer said they hardily used the practice suit because it was too clunky for the fights. She said most of what you see in the movie will be the CGI model.

That's why the armor in the trailer (while it looks good) is clearly CGI in most shots."

Michael Wilkinson is BvS' costume designer, so who is the "she" you're talking about??
