Captain America To Film War Scenes in Caerwent

A local from the area Marvel's Captain America movie will be filming, gives a possible minor update on the production schedule, including where the War scenes will be filmed. Check it Out!

It was confirmed a few months ago that Marvel's highly anticipated "Captain America: The First Avenger" would begin production June 28th, which was a week ago. And though the first filming location for the movie was said to be in the area of Manchester, England, apparently it may not be the first on Marvel's schedule.

Our friends at On Location Vacation have received the following from a local in the Manchester area...

"There has been some confusion in regards to the filming of ‘Captain America’ in Manchester. It is being reported that filming starts this week, however this is for a UK TV series called ‘The Acused’. ‘Captain America’ will be rolling into town in September and will be closing down streets in the northern quarter area of the city including Tariff St, Back Piccadilly and Hilton St. I work in the area and have spoken to people who have received notifications of filming in September. Production will then move to Caerwent, South Wales for 2 weeks to film war scenes."

The production crew is currently prepping for a September shoot in Manchester. And for that shoot, they're closing all of Hilton Street, and will be converted into 1940's New York removing street lights, and covering actual buildings on the street with false "New York" shops. And then apparently after, production will move to Caerwent, South Wales.

South wales, Caerwent, a village surrounded with ancient walls, has plenty of open space to mimic an epic battlefield between the atrocious Nazis and our star spangled avenger.

The Joe Johnston-directed movie stars Chris Evans, leading Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter), Hugo Weaving (Johann Schmidt/Red Skull), Tommy Lee Jones (Gen. Chester Philips), Stanley Tucci (Dr. Abraham Erskine), Neal McDonough (Dum Dum Dugan), Dominic Cooper (Howard Stark), Toby Jones (Arnim Zola) and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury). The film hits theaters July 22, 2011.

In this LA Times article:

http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-ct-onlocation-20100519,0,2097130.story

- they interview Marvel Studios co-President Louis D’Esposito, and they do state filming is to begin in July.

SO... This leads me to wonder if maybe they're trying to throw people off??

Now can we hear something about Thor? LOL!!!

Marvel is so tight lipped these days and security seems to be so top notch air tight you can't smell a pile of dung right under your nose.

Good one, DCMF. Hope we can see some pics out of this.

Damn right I'm happy LEE!!! Caerwent is literally less than half an hour from where I live! Oh man, I hope that we can get some info as to exactly when they'll be here because I'll go and camp out there in my bloody car if I gave to, lol!!! Epic find DCMF! :)

Ok guys, I've just racked my brains and done a bit of asking around and found out a few things about Caerwent - there's an old WWII army base there that they've filmed Doctor Who at a few times. Only problem is it's fenced off from the public and is pretty huge so if they choose to film there I guess it might be pretty hard to see them!

I've only actually been to Caerwent a few times so I might try and head down there in a week or two to try and get an idea of where they might decide to go and if there's any sign of them anywhere! I knew they'd come to Wales! :D

I would love for this film to have that Saving Private Ryan feel/realism. Cap is my all-time favorite character and he needs that kind of portrayl on the screen to show what kind of stuff he went through to be the hero we need and always need.

I cannot wait to see CAPTAIN AMERICA when it comes out in theatres next summer. I wish it can be released for the July 4, 2011 for a big Patriotic celebration. I hope Captain America can celebrate Independance Day. Here's a tagline to the movie "This Independance Day, You will see a Hero who fought his enemies during War World 2"

When I was playing Airsoft on sunday, we had to finish at 5pm so that 'they could start filming'. It's a huge site owned by the MoD so we didn't see anything all day except for a bunch of flares in the sky about a mile to the east of us at about midday
