BOX OFFICE: The Numbers Are In For CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR After Day One Overseas
Marvel's Captain America threequel is expected to rake in upwards of $220 million by the end of its international campaign, and it's off to a very respectable start after just 1 day of release...
Captain America: Civil War opened in 15 markets across Europe and Asia on Wednesday, and took in $14.9M. Apparently the movie raked in the most in Korea ($4.3M) and France ($2.4M), where it scored the biggest opening day of 2016 so far.
Obviously it's never that surprising when any Marvel flick opens big, but the studio will be expecting this superhero smackdown to do Avengers type numbers since it is, for all intents and purposes, being marketed as an Earth's Mightiest Heroes outing. At the moment Civil War is tracking just behind Avengers: Age Of Ultron, which is Marvel’s biggest international film ever at a total $946M - so it's off to a pretty good start.
Analysts predict a $200 - 230, perhaps even $250 million haul by the end of Civil War's international run. To beat Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's record, though, it will have to top $256.2 million.
